Teenage boys in court charged with attempted rape
Two 14-year-old boys have appeared in court after a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in County Antrim.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it happened in Clonavon Terrace, in Ballymena, on Saturday.
Both boys are charged with attempted oral rape and both deny the charges.
They confirmed their names and ages through a Romanian interpreter at Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday morning.
The teenagers, who were sitting side-by-side, appeared by videolink from Woodlands Juvenile Centre wearing grey tracksuits.
A police constable said she believed she could connect the pair to the charge.
There was no application for bail but a defence solicitor told the court that both boys deny the charge.
They were remanded in custody until 2 July when they are due to appear by videolink at the youth court at Ballymena Magistrates' Court.

Two teenage boys have been arrested by detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in County Antrim. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it happened in the Clonavon Terrace area, in Ballymena, between 19:30 and 22:30 BST on Saturday. Det Insp Olphert, from the PSNI's Public Protection Branch, said the teenagers, who have been arrested in connection with the investigation, are being questioned in custody. "Specialist officers are continuing to support the girl who has been left extremely distressed and traumatised by what has happened." "We would reiterate to the public not to speculate or share information on social media – this is not helpful towards the ongoing investigation," Det Ins Olphert added.

Vince Fong (R-Bakersfield) introduced the 'Stopping Klepto-card and Identity Misuse Act' — or SKIM Act. This legislative effort is specifically designed to crack down EBT theft, that is Electronic Benefit Transfer, known as CalFresh and CalWorks in California. Rep. David Valadao (R-Hanford) is a co-sponsor of the bill. Through 17 News' investigation, we uncovered that the California Department of Social Services has lost more than $439 million in EBT benefits since 2021. In the last seven months, more than $2 million in Kern County taxpayer money has been stolen.
