George Clooney gives co-star Adam Sandler props for his acting skills in ‘Jay Kelly'

CNN4 days ago
George Clooney wants everyone to know Adam Sandler is much more than a funnyman.
The pair star in the forthcoming Netflix film 'Jay Kelly' which centers around 'famous movie actor Jay Kelly (Clooney) and his devoted manager Ron (Sandler) as they embark on a whirlwind and unexpectedly profound journey through Europe.'
The pair talked to Vanity Fair about the project and Clooney shared his admiration for Sandler's work on the film.
'This film — more than any film Adam has done — shows what a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor he is,' Clooney told the publication. 'I kept telling the cast, 'Don't call him Sand Man. Don't talk to him like he's just some goofy comedian. He's actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor.''
Sandler – who has previously earned critical acclaim for his dramatic roles, including 2002's 'Punch-Drunk Love,' 2019's 'Uncut Gems,' and 'Hustle' in 2022 – echoed the feelings of appreciation.
'My character loves George's character so much, and I thought that would be fun to do and easy to do with George,' Sandler said.
The actors bond grew even more during filming according to Sandler.
'He invited my family everywhere, every place in Italy and England. Our trailers were next to each other,' he said of Clooney. 'His friends and my friends all hung out, shot hoops, threw the baseball around, talked about other movies we like, other comedians that have made us laugh, his upbringing, my upbringing.'
'Jay Kelly' is in select theaters November 14 and on Netflix on December 5.
The trailer was released on Tuesday.

Will The Gilded Age Stage a Crossover With Downton Abbey in Season 4? ‘There's an Opportunity To,' EP Says

With the third season of The Gilded Age ending this Sunday, and the third Downton Abbey movie hitting theaters next month, we couldn't help but wonder… when the heck are these two Julian Fellowes-created franchises finally going to collide? It's a question we've been asking since The Gilded Age first premiered in 2022, but now that Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) has married into British nobility, the time feels more appropriate than ever. Come on, who didn't get Downton vibes from the Duke's house? More from TVLine The Gilded Age Boss Breaks Down Oscar's Tragic Outburst - Does Agnes Know the Truth About John Adams? The Gilded Age Shocker: Morgan Spector Was 'Thrilled' by Episode 7's Jaw-Dropping Ending House of the Dragon Adds Annie Shapero as Alysanne 'Black Aly' Blackwood in Season 3 'Well, obviously there's an opportunity to [stage a crossover], because they are both in England,' Fellowes tells TVLine. 'Things like the shooting season or whatever would incorporate many great houses for all of these families, as they would travel around England. We can bring about a conjunction whenever we wish, really, but we haven't got one planned yet, so we'll have to see.' To be fair, this is a much more encouraging answer than executive producer Gareth Neame gave us when we spoke with him back in The Gilded Age's first season. '[A crossover is] not in the thinking at all,' Neame says. 'It's a separate universe, but they're both fictions set in the 1880s. Downton Abbey, in its own fiction, was definitely there. A younger version of the Maggie Smith character would be living there, I guess. But it's not really planned.' A younger version of Smith's iconic Dowager Countess? Hey, he said it, not us. Wouldn't it be fun, if even as a fleeting cameo, to catch a glimpse of someone from the Crawley family on The Gilded Age? The first season of Downton Abbey began with the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, meaning it takes place less than 30 years after the current season of The Gilded Age, which would put the Countess somewhere in her 40s. Just something to think about. Gilded Age fans, would you like to see the show collide with the world of Downton Abbey, even if it's just a nod? Drop a comment with your thoughts below. Mural marks 60 years since town's UFO frenzy

A 20m-long mural has been created to mark 60 years since a string of UFO sightings in a town. The sightings, well-known among enthusiasts and locals, are known collectively as the "Warminster Thing" – and were accompanied by many strange sounds and experiences in the Wiltshire town in the 60s. A community Facebook group raised £1,000 to fund the spray-painted artwork in a car park, which covers another mural about the UFO phenomena created 10 years ago. Artist Paul Boswell included saucers, creatures and parts of the town where mysterious happenings occurred. Arthur Shuttlewood, a local journalist who documented the UFO experiences at the time, features prominently. Mr Boswell grew up in this part of the world. "Being young in the 80s and 90s, it was a bit of a thing around this area," he said. "We used to go up on Clay Hill and do UFO spotting. We'd go up there and sleep out there all night expecting to be taken away by aliens, when we were 14." Lesley Blain helps to run the Heart of Warminster community group. "The people of Warminster came up trumps," she said. "They've been so generous and this is the result. It's fantastic, we feel it belongs to the town." A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the mural was carried out by Warminster's mayor, councillor Andrew Cooper. "I think whatever you do or don't think about the folklore that lies behind it, things like this bind a community," he said. "It enriches a community, it gives it something that perhaps other people don't have." Interest in the Warminster Thing has persisted since it became famous in the 60s – this month, there is a UFO conference scheduled in the town. The conference organiser, Stuart Dike, has been following the progress of the mural. He said people had approached him beside the wall, remembering the Thing. "I think we're going to get a combination of ufologists [to the conference] around the country but also people here from different generations that are very intrigued about the actual mystery that happened 60 years ago," he said. Speakers expected at the conference attended the mural unveiling, including John Hanson, a retired detective who has built up a large UFO archive. "What's vital is to record for posterity what people have seen," he said. "It's important because it's part of our history." Follow BBC Wiltshire on Facebook, X and Instagram. Taylor Swift Raves About Boyfriend Travis Kelce's New Movie ‘Happy Gilmore 2': ‘Absolute Must Watch'

Taylor Swift has a new favorite movie, and it just so happens to star one of her favorite people: Travis Kelce. On the day of the Netflix premiere of Happy Gilmore 2 — in which the Kansas City Chiefs tight end appears alongside Adam Sandler — the pop superstar posted her review of the film on her Instagram Story on Friday (July 25). Sharing the film's poster, she wrote that the project 'had me cackling and cheering the whole movie!' The 14-time Grammy winner added, 'Go watch it on @netflix as soon as humanly possible.' Serving as a sequel to the original Happy Gilmore in 1996, Happy Gilmore 2 reunites Sandler with Julie Bowen and Ben Stiller as they reprise their characters while also adding new faces such as Kelce and Bad Bunny. Just over a week before the new film's premiere, the Grown Ups star touched on bonding with the NFL star on set and praised Kelce's superstar girlfriend, telling Entertainment Tonight, 'Taylor's so damn nice to my family and has always been … and Travis is such a gentle, nice guy.' Swift's praise for Kelce's new acting venture is just the latest time she's showed support for her boyfriend's career, with the 14-time Grammy winner frequently cheering him on at Chiefs games throughout the 2023 and 2024 seasons. She also backed him up at his Tight End University event this past June, surprising Kelce's guests with a performance of 'Shake It Off' one night. '[Taylor] just went out there without practicing, and it was pitch-perfect,' Kelce later gushed on his New Heights podcast. '[She] just killed it.' The Eras Tour headliner isn't the only half of Tayvis that's been active on Instagram lately. One day prior to Swift showing love to Happy Gilmore 2, Kelce shared a number of photos of himself and the singer, giving fans a rare look into their romance. Swift's younger brother, Austin, also appeared in a couple of the snaps, which appear to show him going on a fishing trip and hiking with his sister's boyfriend and Kelce's older brother, Jason.
