PREP: Eagles' Brandon Graham announces retirement after 15 seasons
Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham announced his retirement Tuesday, bringing to an end a 15-year career that saw him be a part of two Super Bowl winning teams.
'I gave everything I had in this. I don't have no regrets,' an emotional Graham said as he made his announcement before thanking family, friends, teammates, staff, coaches, owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman.

'My life has been forever changed because of this magical place.'
At the end of his statement, Graham spelled out the chant E-A-G-L-E-S one last time before adding, 'Fly Eagles fly. My last one. B.G. out, baby.'
One of the best to ever wear the midnight green. Thank you for 15 incredible seasons, Brandon Graham.
Congratulations on an amazing NFL career 👏 pic.twitter.com/kPcq1FqwS0

Graham, 36, spent his entire NFL career with the Eagles and is the franchise leader in games played at 206. His final sack in Week 12 moved him past Clyde Simmons for the third-most sacks in team history with 76.5 — behind only Reggie White and Trent Cole. Graham only had two seasons without a sack and he played a combined five games in those seasons due to injury.
In 12 playoff games, Graham added 5 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles with none bigger than his strip sack of quarterback Tom Brady in the closing minutes of Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots, which was the Eagles' first Super Bowl win in franchise history.
Graham's toughness and grit were among his key attributes and was no better illustrated than by his drive to return for Super Bowl LIX in February. A torn tricep in Week 12 looked to sideline him for the remainder of the season, but he returned early — two months and two weeks into what was a projected four-month timeline. He told reporters ahead of the Super Bowl that he understood the risk he'd be taking of a potential re-tear and he was activated off injured reserve the Saturday before Philadelphia's 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. That game ended up being the final one of his NFL career.
Despite his limited role on defense, Graham's leadership will be missed and he is one of several notable departures to an Eagles unit that swarmed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIX. Philadelphia has lost edge rusher Josh Sweat (signed with the Arizona Cardinals), defensive lineman Milton Williams (signed with the New England Patriots) and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (signed with the Minnesota Vikings) in free agency. The Eagles also released cornerbacks Darius Slay (who has since signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers) and James Bradberry and traded defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans.

Selected out of the University of Michigan with the No. 13 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, Graham played in 13 games in his rookie season before a torn ACL in December kept him sidelined until November 2011. He only played in three games in 2011. Graham worked as a pass rushing specialist before growing into a bigger role on the defense. In 2016, he notched a career-best 22 quarterback hits en route to a second-team All-Pro selection. Following an eight-sack season in 2020, Graham made his only Pro Bowl team. From 2012 to 2020, Graham only missed one game out of a possible 144 contests and that was when he was inactive for the final week of the 2017 regular season with Philadelphia resting key starters having secured home field advantage for the NFC playoffs.
In 2021, a torn Achilles tendon cost the 6-foot-2 defensive end all but two games. Graham came back the following season at the age of 34 and recorded a career-high 11 sacks in 2022 — marking the fourth time in six years where he recorded at least eight sacks in single season. He finished fourth in the voting for NFL Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year and his strong season helped the Eagles reach Super Bowl LVII.
Graham signed successive one-year deals in 2023 and 2024 to return to the team albeit in a limited role. He is the latest long-time Eagles contributor to step away from the game. Following the 2023 season, center Jason Kelce and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox both retired. Like Graham, Kelce and Cox only played for Philadelphia in their respective 13- and 12-year careers. Kelce (193) and Cox (188) rank right behind Graham in games played for the Eagles. Right tackle Lane Johnson, a 12-year veteran and another lynchpin in Philadelphia's run of success, agreed to a one-year extension Monday that keeps him under contract through the 2027 season.
'We all went to war together,' Graham said of his teammates. 'We fought and we fought hard. We celebrated the highs and endured the lows and through it all we built something that can never be taken away. Two championships. Two of them. We made history together. While the trophies and rings are incredible, what I will cherish most are the moments. … All them boys know how I feel about them.'
For his 15-year career, Graham totaled 487 tackles, 153 quarterback hits, 126 tackles for loss, 76.5 sacks, 22 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries with one returned for a touchdown.

Commanders Defense Got 'Bigger and Stronger' in 2025
Commanders Defense Got 'Bigger and Stronger' in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. During the 2025 offseason, the Washington Commanders made several high-profile additions to their offense. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel and left tackle Laremy Tunsil stole the show as the biggest acquisitions of the offseason. Advertisement But … Washington made some shrewd moves on the defensive end as well. And those moves have led defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. to believe the unit has gotten better than last year's mark. 'We're really excited about the guys that we added," Whitt said. "We wanted to get bigger and longer. We definitely did that up front. We did in the back end also with [CB] Trey [Amos]. "So, the vision of how we want to play and how we want to be and how we want to look, you're seeing more of it right now from a size and length and speed standpoint.' Washington did lose free agents like safety Jeremy Chinn and edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. Both players were important to Washington's turnaround last season on the defensive end. Advertisement But with another year in their system, Washington is hoping the current group will get even better. They drafted Amos with their second-round pick and signed Javon Kinlaw, Deatrich Wise Jr., and Will Harris to free agent contracts. These moves may not stick out quite like the Samuel or Tunsil trades, but they are important for the team in 2025. And if this all works out … each addition on the defensive end may end up helping Washington reach the Super Bowl for the first time in decades. Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song
Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Music fans likely all rushed to their devices on Friday, as Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne released what was the sixth of "Tha Carter" series. His 19-track album titled "Tha Carter VI" features from notable artists such as BigXthaPlug, MGK, Kodak Black and 2 Chainz among many others. The New Orleans rapper who many felt was snubbed from performing at this past year's Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in the Big Easy has always been known for being a lyrical genius. While he's a New Orleans native and a well-known Green Bay Packers fan, Wheezy shouted-out Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay in one of his new songs, "Welcome to Tha Carter." Shortly after name-dropping former NBA star Metta Sandiford-Artest formerly known as Metta World Peace and Ron Artest, Wayne threw in McVay's name while alluding to one of his (Wayne's) personal favorite hobbies. "Smokin' that bomb L.A. like I'm McVay," said Wayne. Aside from being a music icon, Wayne is a huge sports junkie. He has made appearances on ESPN's "First Take," Fox's "Undisputed," and even won an episode of the iconic ESPN show "Around the Horn." As for McVay and the Rams, they came up a couple of plays short of playing in the Super Bowl this past season, and are hoping that with a new addition like All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, they can rectify their shortcomings in 2025. While McVay is likely appreciative of the bar from Wayne, he is also presumably focused on the team's upcoming minicamp in Maui. The Rams open up preseason play on August 9 against the Dallas story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.

Raiders Reportedly Using Ashton Jeanty in Unique Role at OTAs
Raiders Reportedly Using Ashton Jeanty in Unique Role at OTAs originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders had the worst rushing attack in the league during the 2024 NFL season. Led by Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, the Silver and Black mustered a league-low 79.8 yards per game on the ground. Advertisement After winning just four games last season, in large part due to the team's lack of ground success, owner Mark Davis cleaned house this offseason. Davis hired Pete Carroll and John Spytek to be the team's next head coach and general manager. Their first draft selection was Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who comes to Las Vegas after a 2,601-yard, 29-touchdown campaign at Boise State. He and new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will be tasked with reviving the Raiders' rushing attack in 2025. Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty (2).Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Many expect Jeanty to be the workhorse back for the Raiders immediately as a rookie. While that is certainly shaping up to be the case, reporter Levi Edwards added that Jeanty has been utilized in a unique role during the team's OTAs. Advertisement "It seems Kelly is placing Jeanty all over the field, giving him more opportunities to get the ball in open space in last week's practices," Edwards wrote. "This included screen passes and getting the ball to the running back out in the flat." Las Vegas added veteran Raheem Mostert during free agency, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns during the 2023 season. But it seems that the new brass is investing heavily in their No. 6 overall pick instead of using a committee approach. Jeanty was a slot receiver for a season in high school, and he showed off his pass-catching prowess during his second season at Boise State. During that year, he caught 43 passes for 569 yards and five touchdowns. Any way that Kelly and the Las Vegas staff can get the ball into Jeanty's hands is sure to help the Raiders' offense. With a solid passing attack led by Geno Smith, Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers, Jeanty's running ability should keep defenses honest. Advertisement However, if he is going to be used a pass-catching threat as well, then this could cause headaches for opposing defensive coordinators. It has been a long time since Las Vegas has had a high-end dual-threat running back, but it already appears that they have one in Ashton Jeanty.
