Major Kevin Durant News Emerges After His Minnesota Timberwolves Decision Surfaces
As the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers battle for the Larry O'Brien Trophy in the NBA Finals, teams around the NBA are positioning themselves to land Kevin Durant.

The two-time NBA Champion and 15-time NBA All-Star spent the past 2.5 years with the Phoenix Suns before expressing a desire to be traded.
While there have been a handful of teams that have emerged as landing spots for the 36 year old forward, it was confirmed on Monday that although the Minnesota Timberwolves were hoping to land Durant, the feeling is not mutual.
Following the development that Durant isn't open to playing for Minnesota, the oddsmakers at Bovada updated their odds as to who is the favorite to land him, and atop the list were the Miami Heat.
The Heat had a rough season to put it lightly. After hoping they could get another title run out of Jimmy Butler, he ended up forcing a trade that saw him land with the Golden State Warriors.

They somehow limped their way into the NBA Play-In Tournament, where they became the first No. 10 seed to make the playoffs in league history.
A historic achievement that was quickly overshadowed, as they were blasted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in what was the most-lopsided series in NBA history, losing by 122 points overall.

If the Heat are able to form a big three centered around Durant, Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo, they could instantly become one of the league's top contenders in 2025-26.
However, a package for Durant could force the Heat to part with some key youngsters. Needless to say, the next few days will be huge for the Heat.

Durant, Rockets reportedly have 'no sense of urgency' to get contract extension done
Kevin Durant is entering the final season of his current contract, paying him $54.7 million, and part of what he was looking for in a landing spot was a team willing to pay him a healthy extension off that contract. The Houston Rockets are willing to do that. However, there is no urgency on either side to get this extension done, ESPN's Tim MacMahon said earlier this week on NBA Today. 'There's not a sense of urgency to get it done right now. The Rockets have other business that they need to handle this summer. … I think you're going to see both sides take a patient approach. They will work together. I don't think this is an urgent situation, and even if they get to camp, even if they get to the start of the season. If it's not done, I don't think you're going to see panic from either side. They want to work together, they want to position themselves to win a championship.' The deal is going to get done, the only question is money. MacMahon echoed what we have written about previously: This is not going to be a contract for the two-year, $122 million max, and the question is what number will it be? $100 million? Less? (No team can offer Durant more than two years on a contract due to the over-38 rule.) Whatever that number ends up being, we're a long way from any serious drama about an extension being reached. Both sides want to get a deal done, and technically they have until June 30, 2026, to work it out. Until we get to around the All-Star break, there's not much to stress over.

2025-26 Houston Rockets complete schedule, broadcast information
Starting with a highly anticipated regular-season opener in Oklahoma City, here's where you can watch each game of Houston's 2025-26 NBA season. The NBA's complete 2025-26 season schedule has arrived — and with it, the ability to plan for at least seven months of Houston Rockets basketball. For the Rockets, it begins with a four-game preseason slate in early October before transitioning to the 82-game, regular-season grind on Tuesday, Oct. 21. In a matchup of the top-two teams from last season's Western Conference standings, that opener at Oklahoma City takes place on 2024-25 championship ring night for the Thunder. For Kevin Durant, who leads the new-look Rockets, it will be a reunion night with the franchise where he played eight elite seasons earlier in his Hall of Fame career. Starting with that NBA on NBC opener in Oklahoma City, Houston will have 28 nationally televised games. The list includes four on ABC; seven on Amazon Prime; six on ESPN; seven on NBC; and four on Peacock. Of that total, 15 will be exclusively national broadcasts. The Rockets' local broadcast partner, Space City Home Network (SCHN), will air Houston's entire preseason schedule along with all regular-season games that are not exclusive to national TV. 2024-25 Thunder player grades: Branden Carlson
The calendar has flipped to August, which means we've officially hit the low point of the NBA cycle. The next couple of months are the driest part of the year. Everybody has headed to vacation and awaits training camp to kick off the 2025-26 season. The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to enjoy their NBA championship. They had a historic 68-14 regular-season campaign that eventually led to the franchise's first title with a 2025 NBA Finals Game 7 win. They'll enter next season as a favorite to be a rare repeat winner. To reflect on their title run, Thunder Wire will conduct 2024-25 season grades for all 19 players who suited up for the squad at one point during the year. Fifteenth up is Branden Carlson, who had a standout season as a two-way player: 2024-25 statistics: Advanced stats: Significant Percentile Finishes: Contract: Thoughts: Among last year's two-way player group, only Carlson earned a second year back on the Thunder. Easy to see why. The 26-year-old showed the most among the bottom of the depth chart. He had his moments during his rookie season and dominated in the G League. The Thunder managed to steal Carlson away from the Toronto Raptors. He was also a two-way player there. He was signed to a standard contract after being waived. OKC badly needed the seven-footer as its center position was depleted with injuries. A couple of 10-day deals later, he was finally added to a two-way spot. In his limited time, Carlson showed out. Of course, everybody remembers what he did against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Thunder's eye-popping blowout win. He also managed to play 32 games as OKC blew teams out left and right in its historic season that set the NBA record for point differential. Carlson could stretch the floor. He shot the ball well from deep. The seven-footer also had great size and could rebound. He might've been slow on his feet, but the Thunder could afford that. The 26-year-old helped right away when given the chance. In the G League, Carlson was a double-double machine that could rack up blocks. His stat lines popped out. You love to see a two-way player dominate at that level. It shows he's closer to being an NBA talent than not. The OKC Blue allowed him to stay active despite being buried on the Thunder's depth chart. You have to like what you saw from Carlson in his first season. Especially considering his circumstances. He went undrafted after five seasons at Utah. Most players with similar college careers don't even sniff the NBA. But his combination of size and shooting makes him an intriguing project, even at his older age. Moving Forward: The Thunder hope Carlson can make strides in his second season. It was a bit of a surprise to see him brought back. Considering what he did in his limited playing time, surely another team could offer him a standard roster spot. The NBA champions had the league's full attention in their entire playoff run, which meant more eyes on him in garbage time. Nope. Instead, the Thunder tendered Carlson a two-way qualifying offer. That locked him in OKC. They must've liked what they saw in his first year. Another season under their development system could help him carve out an NBA career after an unceremonious start. At 26 years old, Carlson is who he is. Perhaps his shooting and size can carry him into more NBA contracts. But if he makes it into the league, it's because of those two skills. There's always a need for stretch bigs. He fits that textbook definition. If Carlson wants to lengthen his career, he must be better at the other areas of basketball. You can't simply be somebody who hovers around the perimeter and hopes to receive a kick-out pass. The rebound numbers have to be better. The playmaking is pretty nonexistent. Maybe the seven-footer can turn into a better pick-and-roll partner, too. Aside from that, Carlson is worth the flyer to bring back on a two-way deal. The Thunder have a history of second-round and undrafted gems. He still has a long way to go to join that group, but he's off to a good start, as somebody who showed flashes in the regular season and stuffed the stat sheet in the G League. Final Grade: B
