Haj committee holds meet with RGIA officials
The meeting was conducted by Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani Khusro Pasha, Chairman, Telangana State Haj Committee, by key stakeholders from various departments and agencies involved in Haj operations. The discussions covered a wide range of important arrangements including transit accommodation for pilgrims at Haj House prior to departure, booking of flights and issuance of boarding passes, screening and check-in of luggage, custom facilitation counters at the departure terminal, transportation of Haj pilgrims and their baggage from Haj House to RGIA, coordination with Saudi Airlines and GMR airport authorities for seamless operations.
Khusro Pasha emphasised the need for flawless execution and close coordination among all departments to ensure the comfort, safety, and dignity of the pilgrims.
All officials assured their full cooperation and support to facilitate a smooth and well-organised pilgrimage for all Haj pilgrims departing from Hyderabad. Janab Khusro Pasha also said that, the Telangana State Haj Committee remains committed to providing the highest standard of service for Haj pilgrims and ensuring that all arrangements are carried out with utmost care and efficiency.

Tourism makeover for Prayagraj, poised to emerge as ‘City of Temple Corridors'
In a major push to boost religious tourism, authorities are planning to promote Prayagraj as the 'City of Temple Corridors.' The initiative aims to enhance the city's spiritual appeal in the aftermath of Mahakumbh-2025 and set the stage for Ardh Kumbh 2031, informed officials on Tuesday. These measures are designed to enhance the pilgrim experience and draw visitors from across India and abroad, she added. As a part of the initiative, the state has introduced a Tourism Tracker—a digital tool designed to monitor tourism trends, analyse visitor data, and evaluate the performance of major religious and tourist destinations in the region. It will provide monthly insights on domestic and international footfall, accommodation occupancy, transport logistics, and event execution,' officials explained, adding, 'It will also help identify areas that need attention or investment, ensuring a more seamless experience for pilgrims and visitors alike.' Corridors and cultural revival A key focus of the initiative is to promote temple corridors developed ahead of the Mahakumbh-2025, which involves revamping and connecting prominent yet long-neglected temples, including the Dwadash Madhav cluster, with an investment of over ₹129 crore. Corridors like the Bade Hanuman Temple near Sangam, Akshayvat and Saraswati Well, and Bhardwaj Ashram developed at the time would also be publicised. Officials are also planning to organise Ganga Aarti and cultural evenings at these sites, along with installing multilingual signage and safeguarding the corridors from unauthorised vendor encroachments. Tenders for signage will be issued by the municipal corporation, said officials. Preparing for Ardh Kumbh-2031 In anticipation of Ardh Kumbh 2031, early groundwork is already underway. Officials shared that project proposals for infrastructure, hospitality, and event management are being prepared in coordination with the tourism department, Prayagraj Development Authority, municipal corporation, and the Prayagraj Mela Authority. The administration is also planning to establish a land bank to facilitate the construction of essential facilities—such as parking lots, public restrooms, rest houses, and cafeterias—outside city limits. These projects will be executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model after land acquisition. Tourism conclaves and industry engagement Despite successfully hosting past Kumbh events, Prayagraj has yet to see a proportional rise in year-round tourism. To bridge this gap, the city is preparing to host a mega tourism conclave aimed at engaging national tour operators, travel agencies, and hotel industry stakeholders. Officials stated that this conclave will boost not just religious tourism but also open up employment and business opportunities. Three similar events have already been held in the past with encouraging outcomes. Expanding accommodation and streamlining processes To accommodate the expected tourist influx, efforts are being made to upgrade local infrastructure, particularly the hospitality sector. The administration is working to simplify the No Objection Certificate (NOC) process for new hotels and expand the network of homestays across the city. For the first time, the government is also considering the registration of dharamshalas (pilgrims' rest houses) with the tourism department to integrate them into the broader accommodation ecosystem.

Hubballi Airport leads in solar power generation among AAI airports
1 2 3 Hubballi: The Hubballi Airport, where an 8MW solar power plant was installed in Dec 2022, has emerged as the highest power-generating among Airport Authority of India (AAI) airports in the country. It produces 8MW of electricity per day, meeting its own needs before supplying excess power to other state airports. It's also said that Hubballi Airport is the first AAI-run facility in the country to export solar-generated power to multiple establishments. Rupesh Kumar Sripad, director of Hubballi Airport, told TOI that Hubballi is India's first airport-based solar plant supplying renewable energy to multiple airports. "The plant generated 2.4 crore units of power in the last two years. We saved Rs 12.4 crore that was supposed to be paid as the electricity bill for all AAI establishments in Karnataka. AAI establishments like Ballari Radar Station, Bengaluru Gagan Air-navigation monitoring station, Bengaluru-Devanahalli Airport-AAI staff residential colony, and Mangalore Airport AAI staff residential colony benefit from the Hubballi solar plant, whose project cost was Rs 33.2 crore," he explained. He further said, "Revenue generated from balanced energy after feeding to AAI establishments in Karnataka is Rs 2.1 crore." Sources added that the airport is selling electricity to KPTCL, earning over Rs one crore annually, while saving around Rs 3.6 crore in power bills every year. Earlier, Belagavi and Hubballi airports were shortlisted for the setting up of a solar plant, and Hubballi was preferred based on its weather history. The plant is installed by Madhav Infra Project Limited of Gujarat under the Sustainable Green Airport Mission, in an area of 38 acres, offsetting an estimated 2.1 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions during its lifespan. Thanks to such a green effort, the airport was honoured with the Platinum In The Green Airport Recognition-2025 award, meant for global green airports, in April, by Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East. Air India Express mulls more domestic services from Calicut airport
Air India Express will positively consider the demand to increase the number of domestic services from Calicut International Airport. Air India Express Managing Director Aloke Singh told MPs M.K. Raghavan and E.T. Mohammed Basheer in Delhi recently that the airline would no longer charge extra fares for Haj services from Calicut. He added that a new service from Calicut to Mumbai would be launched once the new airport at Navi Mumbai begins operations, while another service from Calicut to Goa is also under consideration. The MPs demanded that services from Calicut to Thiruvananthapuram and Kolkata, as well as international routes such as Kuwait, Bahrain, and Al Ain, be operated daily. They also sought new services to Fujairah, Madinah, and Singapore.
