Bus services to Manx beauty spot restored
Bus Vannin is launching the 8S route, which is expected to run every day, year-round, from Peel to The Sound via Cregneash from 21 July, subject to approval by the Road Transport Licensing Committee.
The government said the decision to introduce the service was taken to "meet passenger requirements" and would "fill a gap in bus services" identified in consultation responses to a recent bus service review.
It follows the government's decision to scrap a seasonal service to Cregneash last year after being deemed not financially viable.
A subsequent backlash, including the decision being dubbed "short-sighted" by Arbory and Rushen commissioners, led to Infrastructure Minister Michelle Haywood committing to review the decision.
It is set to serve Peel, Foxdale, the airport, Castletown, Port Erin, Port St Mary and The Sound.
The government said the route would be reviewed once in place and might change based on the passenger numbers.
Haywood said she was "delighted" that Bus Vannin was able to introduce the route, adding the service was "good news for residents and visitors to our island".

Where is Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins filmed in 2025? Inside the rugged Welsh location and why it was chosen
The new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has been filmed in the "home" of the SAS, according to the show's professional trainers, and will see the celebs face the "hardest course yet". Speaking to the BBC, the show's chief instructor Billy Billingham opened up about the filming location of the latest celebrity series – starting tonight (Sunday 3 August) – which is in Wales for the first time. Ahead of the premiere on Channel 4 at 9pm, we've taken a deep dive into the location of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025 to find out more about this breathtakingly rugged landscape, and why it was chosen for the series. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025 was filmed in Anglesey, which is an island off the northwest coast of Wales. "It's beautiful, of course, but it's unforgiving. It's a great test ground," chief instructor Billy said of the new location on BBC Radio Wales. "You can have four seasons in one day." Adding to that, a Channel 4 press release described the filming location as the "hardest course yet" for the celebrity contestants. "The elite team of ex-Special Forces soldiers are taking these famous faces to Wales," the press release noted. Wales marks the "home of the first phase" of this SAS series, and there the contestants will "be stripped of their home comforts, families, agents and social media." "It's a birthplace of the special forces, the SAS, where we do all our training in Wales," Billy added of the location. For that reason, Billy says he and the other staffers have been wanting the show to "come home". "We've been wanting to come home, as we call it, for a long time," he explained, adding that Wales' rugged landscape and often harsh weather is a "test in itself" for the contestants. "It sounds exotic to go to New Zealand and Australia and all these places," Billy went on. "But it was great to come home. It offers everything we want." Previously, one season of the civilian edition was filmed in Wales, but this is the first time that the celebrities will be heading to Cymru for their SAS training. For other seasons, the show has taken contestants across the globe, filming everywhere from Scotland to Morocco, Chile, Vietnam and New Zealand. This year there's a new list of celebs taking on the SAS challenge on Channel 4. Here's who will be competing in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025... Head here for more on the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins cast, and our verdict on the contestant most likely to win. Holiday to Anglesey, anyone?

Where is Destination X filmed? All the mystery locations revealed so far and theories on the next stop
Destination X is the brand new BBC show that has got every talking - think: The Traitors meets Race Across the World. Hosted by Rob Byrdon, the new show sees 13 players aboard the X-bus with one key question: Where the X are they? With blacked-out windows, players must figure out their location based on limited clues. At the end of each episode, they place an X on the map. The closest players remain in the game, while the furthest player is eliminated. At the end of the series, one winner will bag a £100,000 prize. So far, two episodes of the show have aired and their locations have been revealed. Episode three will air on Wednesday 6th August, and viewers think they've already guessed the location. Here's everything you need to know. After much guessing, the location for episode one was revealed to be Paris. Lots of viewers guessed the French region of Alsace which many clues pointed to, and only one contestant, Dawn, successfully guessed Paris. After the contestants locked in their guesses, it was revealed that Deborah had put her X furthest away from their location. She was asked to step off the bus, where she immediately spotted the Eiffel Tower. At the start of the episode, the players flew from Baden-Baden, Germany to Alsace, then traveled north before ending up in Paris. Along the way, several clues were dropped - including a caricature of Kylian Mbappé (formerly of Paris Saint-Germain), a lookalike of Emily in Paris, classic French desserts, and a pun from Brydon, who said: "I fell in love" as a play on the word "Eiffel." At the end of episode two, Matterhorn, Switzerland was revealed to be Destination X. All the players successfully guessed Switzerland, but it was Dawn who had guessed the furthest away, opting for Lake Geneva. There was only a 5km difference between her and another player. After leaving Paris, the train drove through Dijon into Switzerland and then through Plage Des Pins in Yvonand. The players then headed to the Alps in the Swiss Italian border where many clues pointed to Switzerland and Matterhorn specifically. The Caution Highway Fault sign linked to CHF, which is the international code for the Swiss Franc and the +41 is the phone code for Switzerland. At the lake, the sign featured all four languages for Switzerland, and the sign spelled out the words Throne Mart - which when rearranged spelled Matterhorn. Additionally, the letters 'Terh' which Nick spotted (and didn't tell the others) are the middle letters of Matterhorn. Episode three is yet to air, but viewers are speculating that the players will be heading to Munich, Germany. In episodes one. several airports were shown on the departure board, including Charles de Gaulle Airport, Sion Airport in Switzerland, Salzburg Airport, Munich and more. Viewers believe this to be a dead giveaway, considering episodes one and two saw the contestants head to Paris and Matterhorn, which is right next to Sion. "Surely wouldn't be this obvious, right?" one viewer asked on X (formerly Twitter), as they suggested Munich for the next destination. Viewers will have to wait until the next episode for the destination to be revealed, but the it's adding up. Other potential spots include Pisa (PSA), Venice (VCE), and Trieste (TRS), which were all shown on the departure board. New episodes of Destination X air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Edinburgh train passengers face delays as dozens flee 'smoke-filled train'
Forty passengers were forced to evacuate from a train after carriages started filling with "smoke and a strange smell". Fire crews rushed to the ScotRail train, which left Inverness at 5.36am on Friday, August 1, after smoke appeared on board, reports The Mirror. The train was halted between Gleneagles and Dunblane, and passengers were taken off amid the pungent smell of smoke and transferred to another service for Perth, with no reports of injuries. ScotRail said services between Glasgow Queen Street and Inverness/Aberdeen, and that Edinburgh Waverley and Inverness may face alterations and delays as a result. A passenger, Sarah MacMath, 35, told the BBC how a "person came over with a loud speaker" and told people to leave her carriage. "We did notice there was a bit of a funny smell from Aviemore or Kingussie - just a strange smell," she said. "I dozed off and woke up when the train stopped near Gleneagles and there was quite a lot of smoke in the carriage. The person then came over the loud speaker and asked us to either move to the end carriage or the first carriage. "At that point, I stood up and there was a pretty heavy smell of smoke and there was quite a lot of it in the carriage." Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Mark Ilderton, ScotRail's service delivery director, confirmed that passengers were evacuated safely after reports of smoke being detected on the train. He said: "The 05:36 Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street service was brought to a stop near Gleneagles this morning after reports of smoke being detected in one of the carriages. Our immediate priority is the safety and wellbeing of everyone on board, and customers have been safely assisted from the train." A message by ScotRail on X this morning read: "Due to a broken down train between Gleneagles and Dunblane all lines are blocked. Please keep an eye on our app/website for live service updates." It later said: "A rescue train has been dispatched to assist the broken-down train," and that was followed by a post, shortly before midday, saying: "The broken-down train is now on the move back to the depot and we're working to get trains and crew back into position." And on the ScotRail website it says of trouble between Gleneagles and Dunblane: "Train services running through these stations are returning to normal but some services will still be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected to last until around 13:30 today (01 August)." Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
