"Since the inception of our govt, we prioritised job creation in both the public and private sectors. Our goal is to fill 1.5 lakh govt posts within five years, with 65,000 positions to be filled in the first two years," the CM said.
He said more recruitments are on the way, and the process will continue. "We enacted legislation in the state assembly to ensure transparency in the recruitment process. Complete transparency is maintained in recruitment, and we increased the job age limit to 42 years," he added.
H
e also highlighted that only 2% of employment in the state is in govt sector, with the rest being created in the private and industrial sectors. "In the coming days, at least 1.3 million jobs are expected to be created in the industrial sector alone. Our youth need to become industry-ready. Within just four months of the Utkarsh Odisha conclave, 90,000 job opportunities opened up in the industrial sector," he added.
The CM said the appointees will serve the people of Odisha as part of the govt. "I believe you will serve with dedication and commitment, understanding the needs and challenges of the people. Our govt adopted a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, and you should stay away from it," he added.
All appointees were encouraged to plant a tree in their mother's name as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign. "With the blessings of your parents, you secured the job.

Always serve them and never cause any distress to your family. In our society, many poor people are in distress, and you should never forget to deliver justice to them in a timely manner," said Majhi.

Pujari assures action against sand mafia

Bhubaneswar: Revenue minister Suresh Pujari on Saturday said Odisha would not be allowed to follow the lawless path in sand operations like it is in Bihar and West Bengal, while responding to the recent assault of an additional tehsildar in Kaptipada block, Mayurbhanj district, by the sand mafia. He promised stringent action against the sand mafia regardless of their connections, while speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday. "The Kaptipada incident represents a serious escalation in conflict between law enforcement and the sand mafia. The attack on officers performing their enforcement duties is similar to Bihar and West Bengal, where criminals challenge state authority. The administration's commitment in curbing illegal sand trafficking faces violent resistance from well-organised criminal networks. We pledged decisive action against both the direct perpetrators and their masterminds," said Pujari. This zero-tolerance approach signals a strong message that such attacks on govt officials will not be tolerated. The incident serves as a watershed moment in the ongoing battle against illegal sand mining operations, officials said. Majhi, based on intelligence reports, went to inspect sand being lifted illegally using excavators. When he opposed it, he was attacked. Police said the miscreants, mostly goons of the sand mafia, intercepted Majhi's car and tried to stop him from venturing into the sand lifting site in the river bed. Pujari announced free sand provision for Pradhan Mantri Awas beneficiaries, with a draft standard operating procedure (SOP) already in preparation to streamline the process. "The most important thing is how to facilitate the supply of sand at low cost to the lower middle class and poor. We will introduce the provision of issuing permits to beneficiaries of PM Awas to lift at least two tractor fulls of sand for free for construction of houses. The PM Awas will be free from the sand cost burden," Pujari told reporters. BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty commented that the minister's statements are merely an attempt to whitewash the obvious collusion between administration officials and the mining mafia. "Instead of taking concrete action, the minister has limited himself to making empty rhetoric," he said. Mohanty said there has been a drastic decline in revenue from minor minerals from Rs 1,485 crore in 2023-24 to just Rs 600 crore in 2024-25.

Modi to attend 1st anniversary celebration of Majhi govt

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the first anniversary celebration of the Mohan Charan Majhi-led BJP govt in Odisha on June 20. This event will mark the end of the nine-day celebration starting June 12, when Majhi took oath last year. This anniversary marks a milestone for BJP, which defied expectations by forming a govt in Odisha for the first time, challenging the predictions of many political analysts. For Majhi, this occasion is not only a testament to his leadership but also a personal triumph, as he rose from humble beginnings as a sarpanch to the state's highest office. The BJP is keen to leverage this anniversary to highlight its achievements over the past year, portraying it as a period of remarkable success. Among the initiatives being showcased are the state govt's Rs 800 bonus per quintal of paddy and the "Subhadra" cash incentive scheme, which provides Rs 5,000 annually to around one crore women. These programmes are being positioned as key accomplishments of the Majhi administration, which also fulfilled several other emotive and symbolic poll promises, such as the opening of four gates of the 12th century Jagannath temple in Puri. His approach contrasts sharply with that of his predecessor, as he emphasizes accessibility and engagement with the public. His participation in a marathon 12-hour debate on the Odisha University Amendment Bill, 2025, exemplifies his commitment to governance and legislative processes. Naveen was often criticised for skipping assembly when he was CM. Revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari confirmed that Modi will attend the event on June 20, following a request from the CM. Although the anniversary falls on June 12, the Prime Minister's schedule necessitated a later visit. "The celebrations will span from June 12 to June 20, with various programmes planned to engage the public and highlight the govt's vision for the future," he said. The anniversary celebrations will include a press conference by the chief minister, discussions with intellectuals, and the unveiling of a vision document for 2036 and 2047. These events aim to reinforce the BJP's strategic goals and long-term plans for Odisha. The CM earlier announced the aspiration for Odisha to become a US $1.5 trillion economy by 2047 and US $500 billion by 2036, which requires a 9.2% growth rate. District-level programmes will also be organised to ensure widespread participation and engagement. Modi's visit will be his sixth to Odisha since Majhi assumed office, underscoring the importance of the state in the BJP's national strategy. During a recent visit to Delhi, Majhi invited the Prime Minister to attend the anniversary, highlighting the significance of this event for both the state and the party. As preparations continue, BJP is poised to use this anniversary as a platform to consolidate its position in Odisha and demonstrate its governance capabilities.
