Four men arrested after €31m cocaine seizure and attempted boat getaway in Cork
On Tuesday morning, gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped a van in the Courtmacsherry area of Co Cork when the cocaine was seized.

The two males (30s and 40s) arrested while travelling in the van remain detained in a Garda Station in Co Cork under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007.
A Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) with two males on board departed from Broadstrand, Courtmacsherry.
The Irish Naval ship, L.É. William Butler Yeats on patrol in the area as part of the Joint Task Force operation responded, supported by a Maritime patrol aircraft from the Irish Air Corps, who provided overhead surveillance during the operation.
Two Naval Service rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RIBs), with members of ships armed Maritime interdiction Team, were launched from L.É. William Butler Yeats and intercepted the suspect RIB off the coast of Cork.
The suspect RIB was detained by Revenue Customs Service and the two males were taken on board the L.É. William Butler Yeats.
The L.É. William Butler Yeats returned to Haulbowline Naval Base and both males (also aged in their 30s and 40s) have been arrested by gardaí and are currently detained in a Garda Station in Co Cork under Section 50 Criminal Justice Act 2007.
Gardaí said further updates will be provided in due course.

Murder victim was ‘beloved' father and grandfather, family say
A man who was killed in Co Down has been described by his family as a 'beloved' father and grandfather. The body of Stephen Brannigan, who was in his 50s, was found in a house in Marian Park in Downpatrick on Sunday afternoon. 'It means so much to us at this difficult time and reflects the very special people who make up the Marian Park and wider Downpatrick community.' The family said they wanted to convey their concern for Fr Murray, who remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital. The statement added: 'Fr John is highly respected by our family and by all in our community. 'It is so typical of his kindness that he was willing to reach out in trust to someone he believed was in distress, despite the obvious risk to himself. 'With so many others, we pray for his full recovery and thank him for his own prayers for us which he has conveyed through the priests of the parish. 'Stephen was known among his neighbours and friends as someone who was always willing to help out, ready to do whatever needed to be done for the good of others. 'Even the day before he died, he was tending the graves of friends and neighbours, as he did, almost every day, the grave of his late wife Dorenda, who died five years ago from cancer. 'Stephen faced many difficult issues in his life. We know his life was not perfect. But for us, he was our dad, our grandad, our son and our brother. 'His rock through all of this was Dorenda. We pray they will be reunited now in perfect peace and love.'

Two girls arrested after suspected arson attack destroys historic hotel
Two girls aged 13 and 14 have been arrested after a major fire gutted a historic former hotel. West Mercia Police said the teenagers had both been released on bail as part of its inquiry into damage caused to the Grade II-listed Raven Hotel in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire. Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said it responded swiftly to the fire at 4.45pm on Sunday, with the first fire engine arriving on scene within two minutes of the initial emergency call. The brigade said eight fire engines and multiple specialist vehicles were deployed to tackle the blaze, which did not lead to any casualties but 'totally destroyed' the building. In a statement issued on Monday, the West Mercia force said: 'Police attended a large fire at the Raven Hotel on St Andrews Street in Droitwich. 'It was believed the fire had been started deliberately but thankfully nobody has been injured. 'Two girls, 13 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of arson and have since been released on bail.' Officers remain at the scene, the force said, and are asking that the public stay away from the area at this time. Scaffolding was put up around the privately-owned building by Wychavon District Council after an incident in September 2024 where guttering and debris fell into the road. The incident also prompted an urgent inspection by the authority, which found that the condition of the disused structure, part of which dates back to the 16th century, posed risks to the public. Fire service Group Commander Simon Cusack said: 'This was a challenging incident, and I want to commend the professionalism and dedication of our firefighters and partner agencies. 'The rapid response and teamwork ensured that the fire was quickly contained and extinguished without injury. We appreciate the public's support and will continue to work with the local authority and business owner to secure the site.' The district council said it shared the community's upset and anger at the 'devastating' fire. The council said in a statement: 'We understand completely the strength of feeling and affection for this historic building and the significance it has for the town. 'Over the last six months we had been working hard to ensure that urgent works were carried out to protect the building in line with the court order we secured late last year. These works were due to finish this week and we will still invoice the owner for payment. 'We are working closely with the fire service and our building control officers were visiting the site this morning to review the building and advise of the next steps. 'We will issue a further statement very soon, once we have an update regarding the state and safety of the structure.'

Dealer set up new Swindon drug line on day after arrest
A man who set up a new drugs line the day after he was arrested has been jailed. Oskar Krzeszewski was found with 50 wraps of class A drugs, knives, an iPhone, designer clothing and cash in his vehicle when he was stopped on 25 April. He was bailed so police could Aidan Hillier, from Wiltshire Police, said Krzeszewski's decision to set up a new drugs line the next day was "brazen" and added the 21-year-old had played a "significant role" in supplying cocaine and heroin across Swindon. Krzeszewski, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Friday to 28 months in prison. After the initial arrest, officers received intelligence on 17 May which indicated a Class A drug line had been set executed a warrant at a Swindon property Krzeszewski was thought to be living in on 24 June. Officers found bulk bags of crack cocaine and heroin, scales, plastic wrap, individual wraps and £5,500 in was arrested again and police discovered a sim card for the drugs line. Krzeszewski was charged and remanded in custody. He pleaded guilty to supplying crack cocaine and heroin, possession with intent to supply, possessing a bladed article in a public place and possessing criminal Hillier added: "We know the serious harm that drugs cause in our communities – from the vulnerable users to their wider families and friends, and the neighbourhood-related crime like antisocial behaviour and shoplifting."There's no place for Class A drugs in Wiltshire and we will continue to target and put before the courts those dealing them."
