"If injustice is done to backwards and Dalits, he himself has done it": OP Rajbhar slams Rahul Gandhi
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 12 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Minister OP Rajbhar on Thursday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his statement on injustice done to backwards and Dalits and stated that the Congress leader was himself responsible for the injustice.
'Rahul Gandhi himself is criticising the 60 years of his government. He says that the backwards and Dalits have not been uplifted. If injustice has been done to the backwards and Dalits, then he has done injustice to the backwards and Dalits. Now, why is he shouting about these 11 years of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA government)?' Rajbhar told ANI.
Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor also criticised the NDA's leadership, and alleged a collapse in law and order due to ineffective governance.
Speaking on the deteriorating situation, Kishor stated that Bihar's leadership is failing due to the chief minister's inability to govern effectively, with corrupt officers and a few ministers exploiting the system.
'The law and order situation in Bihar is deteriorating because the state's leadership is ineffective. When a physically and mentally unfit person occupies the top position, the government lacks authority, and no one is truly governing. A few corrupt officers and ministers are solely focused on exploiting the government and the public. The worsening law and order is evident, yet has anyone heard of Nitish Kumar holding a high-level meeting to review the situation? There's no discussion,' he remarked.
This comes after Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the NDA government, led by Nitish Kumar, over the death of a minor Dalit girl, alleging negligence in her treatment at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).
In a post on social media website X, LoP Gandhi alleged that the 'double-engine' government's negligence led to the dalit girl's death.
'The brutality against a minor Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur and the subsequent negligence in her treatment is extremely shameful. If she had received timely treatment, her life could have been saved. But the double-engine government was negligent not only in providing security but also in saving his life,' he said. (ANI)

Lokesh's ultimatum to YSRCP on 'Talliki Vandanam'
Vijayawada: Minister for Human Resources and IT Nara Lokesh on Friday gave an ultimatum to leaders of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to prove their claim that he had arranged to collect Rs 2,000 illicitly from the Rs 15,000 being disbursed to mothers under the 'Talliki Vandanam' scheme. Lokesh demanded that the YSRCP must take down their defamatory tweet within 24 hours, failing which legal action would be launched against the party. He accused the YSRCP of a pattern of repeating false allegations to establish its unfounded charge. In fact, Lokesh alleged, there were irregularities in the implementation of the 'Amma Vodi' scheme during the previous YSRCP government, including the furnishing of false accounts regarding student gross enrollment ratios. Addressing the media, the IT Minister highlighted that under the 'Talliki Vandanam', a key promise under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's 'Super Six' programme, the state government has successfully credited Rs 8,745 crore to the accounts of mothers of 67.27 lakh students. This amount is being credited to mothers of students from Class 1 to Intermediate first year. In cases where a mother is absent, the amount will be credited to the father or guardian, and for orphanages, the District Collector will assume responsibility. Lokesh emphasised the establishment of a robust redressal mechanism, allowing citizens to report grievances regarding non-receipt of funds through the Mana Mitra app or at village and ward secretariats. The minister provided a breakdown of the beneficiaries, stating that amounts for students from Class 4 to 10 were credited to 30 lakh BCs, 12 lakh SCs, 4.26 lakh STs, 66,000 minorities, and 8.5 lakh EBCs. He added that Rs 13,000 was credited to 18.55 lakh mothers with one child. For those with two children, Rs 26,000 was credited to 14.55 lakh mothers, covering 29.10 lakh students. Additionally, funds were credited for 6.3 lakh students with three children. Lokesh contrasted the foregoing figures with those of the previous YSRCP government's 'Amma Vodi' scheme, which benefited only 42 lakh students, whereas the current NDA government had extended 'Talliki Vandanam' to 67.27 lakh students. He noted that while the YSRCP government spent Rs 5,540 crore, the NDA government was spending Rs 8,745 crore on 'Talliki Vandanam,' an additional Rs 3,205 crore, projecting an extra expenditure of Rs 16,000 crore over five years. The minister further informed that he had reviewed the scheme's implementation with the Finance Minister and found that 2 percent of mothers' accounts were inactive, for which SMS notifications were being sent to prompt their activation. Regarding school preparations, Lokesh stated that student kits, including books and bags, were distributed to 80 per cent of students on the first day of school reopening. He assured that mid-day meals would be served with fine rice. As part of ongoing reforms, the state government was focusing on a 'one class, one teacher' norm, which had been implemented in 9,600 schools. Additionally, government schools were receiving free power supply. The minister concluded by stating that the teacher transfer process would be completed by Monday.

Why did Kerala forget its Gandhi translator?
By: Rajesh M Rajagopalan Ente Sathyanweshana Pareekshakal', the first Malayalam translation of Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography 'The Story of My Experiments with Truth', has sold in the hundreds of thousands and is still in print. The translator, however, largely remains in obscurity. A quick internet search for Koothirezhi Madhavan Nair, better known as Madhavanar, yields scant results. His name hardly resonates even in Vallikunnu of Kerala's Malappuram district — his native village. Now, 45 years after his passing, the 50-year-old Jwala Library is set to change that by inaugurating a memorial building in his name. Madhavanar played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle by being at the forefront of the Beypore and Kozhikode Salt Satyagrahas. A staunch social reformer, he also participated in the Guruvayur Satyagraha led by K Kelappan — a historic movement demanding temple entry rights for backward classes and Dalits. Gandhiji maintained regular correspondence with Madhavanar, who served as secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee at the time. In a letter dated June 5, 1931, written from Sabarmati, Gandhiji advised him on strategy: 'My Dear Madhavanar, I have your letter about picketing. At the present moment, I cannot give you better advice than to ask you to discuss the whole thing with Syt. Rajagopalachari and act in consultation with him. I am sure that if orders under 144 are passed, for the time being at any rate, you should obey them.' Madhavanar, along with fellow Gandhians, played a key role in facilitating Gandhiji's later visit to Kozhikode. A close associate of C Rajagopalachari, Madhavanar remained in touch with him even after Independence. He contributed articles to 'Swarajya' magazine, which was under Rajagopalachari's patronage. Born in 1903 in the Koothirezhi family of Vallikunnu, Madhavan Nair was a diligent student. He earned a graduate degree in chemistry from Madras University and began his career at TISCO, Jamshedpur, with a princely salary of Rs 100. But the nationalist movement soon drew him away from scientific pursuits. He journeyed from Jamshedpur to the Himalayas, exploring Badrinath and Kedarnath — a trip that inspired the first-ever Himalayan travelogue in Malayalam. 'Oru Himalaya Yathra', published in 1927, became widely read and is still in print. 'Madhavanar was a true-blue Gandhian who practised what he preached. A staunch opponent of casteism, he once invited a Dalit boy to the Koothirezhi tharavadu, an audacious act for that time. He was also instrumental in introducing EMS Namboothiripad to the AICC and AK Gopalan mentioned him in his autobiography,' said Koothirezhi Harish Kumar, a retired teacher and nephew of Madhavanar. He was also one of the most prominent Malayalam journalists of the pre-Independence era. He served on the editorial board of Mathrubhumi Daily for several years. 'He would leave the Mathrubhumi press only after the first copy came out. A Mathrubhumi vehicle en route to Malappuram would drop him at Feroke, and he would walk nearly 10km in pitch darkness to reach home,' Harish Kumar recalled. Madhavanar was a respected figure in the Kozhikode literary circle. Renowned writer SK Pottekkatt was a regular visitor to Eledathil House, Madhavanar's residence in Vallikunnu. He also maintained close ties with writer Thikkodian. Madhavanar remained a bachelor all through his 1964, he had a bitter brush with local politics. He contested the panchayat election and lost. The idealist Gandhian was not cut out for the shifting political landscape. 'He was very close to my father. When I once asked about his sabbatical from writing, he said he had limited time left but countless books to read. Reading was his greatest passion,' recalls Prof. Shantakumar Mookkamparambath, who used to visit him during his twilight years. He found childlike delight in filling his shelf with new books and took immense pride in his vast home library. Madhavanar passed away in April 1980. Power politics was not his forte, and knowingly or unknowingly, he faded from public memory. Jwala Library's Madhavanar Memorial Building will be a fitting tribute to the man who cherished books. The memorial will remind future generations that a man of remarkable greatness – a valorous freedom fighter and a gifted writer – once walked this land. "I pay humble tributes to him": Nitin Patel expresses grief over Vijay Rupani's demise in Air India plane crash
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Gujarat's former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel on Friday expressed deep anguish over the loss of life of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Speaking to the mediapersons, Patel said, 'Hearing the news and watching it on TV has pained lakhs and crores of Gujaratis and crores of BJP workers. Vijay Rupani was a CM with whom I received the opportunity to work as a Deputy CM. We worked for the state like brothers. On behalf of all of us, I pay humble tributes to him.' Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was among the 242 passengers on the Air India flight bound for London that crashed soon after taking off from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board. One passenger survived the crash. Earlier in the day, Adani Group Chairperson Gautam Adani visited Vijay Rupani's residence. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda also expressed sorrow and grief over the tragic demise of Vijay Rupani. On Thursday, the Al-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aeroplane bound for London's Gatwick had crashed shortly after it took off from the Ahmedabad International Airport. The airlines said only one out of the 242 people on board the aircraft survived the crash. The aircraft was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with 8,200 hours of flying experience, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 flying hours. According to Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. Immediately after departing from Runway 23, the aircraft crashed outside the airport perimeter, and heavy black smoke began emanating from the accident site. Vishwashkumar Ramesh miraculously survived the Air India plane crash a day ago, in which 241 other passengers died. Kumar, a British national of Indian origin, was seated in row 11, at the left window seat in the flight's economy class section, right behind an emergency exit. There were 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national on board the crashed plane, airline authorities said. (ANI)
