UEFA postpones decision on Crystal Palace's European place

UEFA announced on Monday it needed more time to make a ruling and said Lyon had reached a settlement which would exclude them from European competition next season if a decision to relegate them to the French second tier was upheld.
That relegation is the subject of an appeal by the French club.
Lyon were relegated due to financial difficulties by French football's financial regulator, the DNCG.
Last week it was announced Textor had agreed to sell his shareholding in Palace to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. It was announced on Monday he had resigned from his leadership positions at Lyon as well.
Whether any of that assists Palace's chances remains to be seen.
Palace's case has been examined under article five of UEFA's club competition regulations, which state that as of March 1 this year, clubs wishing to be eligible for qualification in 2025-26 had to be able to demonstrate that no individual or legal entity had control or influence over more than one club participating in the same competition.
Where two or more clubs fail to meet the criteria, only one can be entered, with Lyon's better league position appearing to put them ahead of Palace.

Lyon said in a statement the settlement agreement they had signed with UEFA's club financial and control body (CFCB) meant the club 'could therefore participate in next season's Europa League, subject to a favourable outcome of the appeal of the DNCG decision'.
That would indicate Lyon's participation hinges on the success of their appeal, but what is unclear is whether UEFA might admit Palace as well if it is satisfied requirements have been met under multi-club ownership rules – or only admit Palace if Lyon's relegation is upheld.
Palace have been contacted for comment.

Brendan Rodgers turns Robbie Savage consultant as Celtic boss advice before taking Forest Green Rovers job revealed
The ex Premier League star is the new boss of the ambitious National League side Robbie Savage has revealed he sounded out Brendan Rodgers and Martin O'Neill before accepting the job at Forest Green Rovers. The former Wales international has taken charge of the National League side after four years with Macclesfield Town. After serving as a board member with the English minnows, Savage was appointed as manager last year and led the club to the Northern Premier League title last season to take them up to the sixth tier. But the confident Welshman has now stepped up a division to take up the reins at Forest Green, who missed out on promotion back to the EFL last month with a defeat to Southend United in the play-off semi final. And the 50-year-old says he consulted the two Celtic heroes before saying yes to the ambitious Gloucestershire, having enjoyed success as a player under O'Neill at Leicester City, where the Foxes won the League Cup back in 2000. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Fortunately for me I have worked with some unbelievable people. "I spoke to Martin O'Neill yesterday who is more than willing to come down, sit with me and have a coffee. "I've spoke to Brendan Rodgers and Sean Dyche, real football people. As soon as this opportunity came about they said 'it's an unbelievable opportunity for you. "As a manager I have tried to take little snippets from each one but I think I am a good motivator, a good man-manager and I believe I know how to get the best out of a collective and more importantly an individual. "I have been in their shoes numerous times and have suffered disappointments and experienced highs and lows. "If I can take little things from everybody, I think we'll do well." Savage's relationship with Brendan Rodgers is perhaps a result of his backing for the Irishman during his sticky patch in charge of Leicester. Rodgers faced calls for the sack in some quarters following a heavy 4-1 FA Cup defeat to then Championship side Nottingham Forest in February 2022, having won the competition the year before. Leicester had failed to get past the group stages of the Europa League that season but manage to reach the last four of the Conference League after dropping into the third tier competition. But following the loss to Forest, Savage came out in defence of the ex Liverpool boss, branding calls for him to get the boot as 'nonsense'. He told BT Sport: It's absolute nonsense, isn't it? Two fifth placed finishes, an FA Cup victory, rebuilding squads, the recruitment - surely he has credit in the bank for what he has achieved at Leicester. "It's one of the best Premier League appointments in recent years, one of them, for what he's done with that side. "He needs his best players on the pitch on a regular basis to compete. To compete for Champions League, Leicester City - they were in League One not so long ago. He's done amazing." Rodgers' ultimately left the Foxes by mutual consent in April 2023 shortly before their relegation from the Premier League, sealing his return to Celtic two and a half months later.
