'Terror can never succeed' : Farooq Abdullah on neutralization of Pahalgam attackers

Srinagar, July 29 (UNI) National Conference President Farooq Abdullah today said that if the terrorists neutralized in an encounter with security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar yesterday were indeed the same individuals responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack, it sends a strong message that terrorism will never succeed.
Dr Abdullah was responding to a question from reporters regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement in Parliament that the three terrorists killed in Srinagar yesterday were involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
'I have not seen them. I do not know who they were. Only those who have seen them can identify who they were. If they were really the same terrorists, then it is a very good thing. It is a good thing that they have learned that terrorists can never be successful,' Abdullah said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said the three terrorists killed in gunbattle in Srinagar yesterday were identified as Suleiman alias Faisal, Afghan and Jibran and said they were behind the Pahalgam terror attack.

7 JNV students held for sexual assault on Class 6 boy

Guwahati: Seven students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Rangia (JNV-Rangia) in Assam's Kamrup district have been arrested following allegations of sexual assault on a Class VI student, police said on Saturday. The arrests were made after the school authorities filed a police complaint, leading to an FIR at Rangia police station. The accused, all minors from Class XI, have been sent to a juvenile home for 14 days by a juvenile court in Amingaon. Kamrup SP Ranjan Bhuyan said, "The sexual assault was going on for the last two to three months, involving senior students of the same school." Police said all seven students apprehended are from Class XI in JNV-Rangia, a residential school under the Union ministry of education. Rangia police station OC Nabajit Nath said the accused were apprehended from their homes following a complaint by the principal of JNV-Rangia. The victim's medical examination has been conducted, and further statements have been recorded by the police. Sources in JNV-Rangia said the accused students were sent home on Wednesday following an internal inquiry. "The victim was scared to tell us what happened to him. We tried to find out what happened but he was not ready to tell us. Then his guardians were called to the school and only then did the boy explain to his guardians in writing what happened to him. From that written piece, we came to know about the sexual assault," said a school official. Mys-Kushalnagar highway will be ready by March 2027

Mysuru: The ambitious Mysuru-Kushalnagar greenfield access-controlled highway is expected to be completed by March 2027. As the project cost increased to Rs 4,128 crore from the original Rs 3,883 crore, it is likely to be delayed by three months. Earlier, it was scheduled to be completed before 2026. Meanwhile, Mysuru MP Yaduveer KC Wadiyar made it clear that package 1 under this scheme (Kushalnagar-Madikeri) will not be taken up due to the environmental concerns expressed by locals and activists. He also informed that the road will be ready by early 2027. PM Narendra Modi performed the bhoomi puja for this project in March 2023. However, the project is being delayed due to issues related to forest clearance, explained stakeholders. According to the details furnished by Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari in response to a question raised by Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya, the minister informed that this 92km long highway is expected to be completed before the deadline. He stated that this project is divided into five packages and passes through the Mandya and Mysuru Lok Sabha constituencies. "Efforts are being made to get the forest clearance at the earliest for the project, which connects Paschima Vahini in Srirangapatna with Kushalnagar. Most of the forest land required consists of social forestry land parcels," he explained. Yaduveer, during his recent meeting with Nitin Gadkari, emphasised the need for timely intervention in overcoming delays related to forest clearance for the project.
