Pick n Pay Kingsburgh employee dies at till: Store remains open for hours
PICK n Pay Kingsburgh staff and shoppers were left traumatised after one of the supermarket's employees collapsed and died at the till on May 5.

According to witnesses, the incident happened around 14:30 but the corpse lay on the shop's floor while operations carried on as usual in the store until it was removed at 17:30. An employee who spoke on condition of anonymity said she was left deeply disturbed after they had to work with a dead body in the store. The employee also confirmed that the deceased was a foreign national.
Ayanda Msweli, a broadcaster who works closely with the provincial government, arrived at the scene around 16:30 before the body was processed and removed. He decried the fact that the store did not close to protect the staff from the trauma of seeing their dead colleague.
'They had to continue working as though nothing had happened, regardless of the trauma they had suffered from losing their colleague so abruptly. From around 14:30 until 17:30, Pick n Pay continued business as usual with no regard for the mental health of its workers, not to mention the rights of customers whose religious beliefs do not permit them to be in the same vicinity as that of a corpse,' said Msweli in the statement.
Questions regarding the incident were sent to Pick n Pay, but a response had not been received at the time of publishing.

Durban is getting into position to host International Day of Yoga
Durban is getting into position to host International Day of Yoga THE city of Durban is getting into final position to host its biggest International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebration on Saturday, June 21, at the Amphitheatre in North Beach. The annual event, hosted by the Sivananda World Peace Foundation, draws scores of novices and yogis from across eThekwini who find balance and peace in the practise of yoga. Prince Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu, a philanthropist and head of the organisation, said this year's 11th celebration of Yoga Day will be their most vibrant one yet. He said, 'It's all systems go for a colourfully grand celebration of yoga on Saturday, June 21. This event will declare Durban as South Africa's official venue for the annual yoga milestones as the legacy project continues.' The organisers are expecting a crowd of over 3000 participants at this year's Yoga Day celebrations, surpassing last year's 2500 attendees. Community-based organisations and outreach initiatives have also been mobilised to ensure inclusive participation. Also Read: The rise of yoga and meditation in urban spaces 'We are reaching out to all communities to embrace yoga as a universal quest for balance and wellness. It reminds us of our interconnectedness, even in moments of personal mindfulness. The serenity of yoga blends seamlessly with our diverse cultures, symbolising unity and wellness,' said Ramlutchman. The International Day of Yoga was established by the United Nations in 2014 to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practising yoga. Yoga, an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India, symbolises the union of body and consciousness. The annual observance on June 21 emphasises yoga's role in promoting holistic health and well-being, according to the UN's World Health Organization. Over the past decade, Yoga Day in Durban has received strong backing from provincial and local governments, and the national Department of Health. The eThekwini Municipality has helped to establish this event as a major cultural and wellness initiative. The upcoming event is expected to feature yoga demonstrations by experts, musical and dance performances, and talks highlighting the benefits of yoga for individual and societal well-being. No hot water for patients in Pretoria hospitals amid icy winter conditions
No hot water for patients in Pretoria hospitals amid icy winter conditions Sick and vulnerable patients at three major Pretoria hospitals are being forced to endure freezing winter conditions without hot water as critical equipment failures and years of poor maintenance leave facilities struggling to meet basic care standards. According to the DA's Shadow Health MEC, Jack Bloom, this was confirmed by Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko in a written reply to his questions in the Gauteng Legislature. 'Reasons for a lack of hot water include leaking steam pipes and broken boilers, compressors, and heat tanks.' He said the department says: 'The critical equipment such as boilers, chillers, heat pump, air conditioners etc. are old and were not serviced appropriately for a long time. The impact is that due to their heavy usage in winter, the department experiences a lot of breakdowns.' 'Patients in nine Gauteng public hospitals have suffered without hot water as the winter cold has bitten since the start of May this year.' • Bertha Gxowa Hospital, • Cullinan Care and Rehab, • Sterkfontein Hospital, • Edenvale Hospital, • Lenasia Hospital, • Kalafong Hospital, • Weskoppies Hospital, • Jubilee Hospital, • Tshwane Rehabilitation Care Hospital. 'I suspect they are underplaying the hot water problem as I have received complaints from patients at several other hospitals. 'It is inexcusable that sick people have to wash in cold water in winter. The department says R100 million is set aside to recapitalise hospital equipment. This is a long overdue investment, but needs to be spent properly, unlike failed projects in the past,' Bloom said. The Gauteng Department of Health has yet to confirm or respond to media inquiries.
