Harry Maguire makes bold claim about Manchester United

Harry Maguire has faced more ups and downs than most Premier League footballers during his time at Manchester United. The centre-back received torrential abuse across social media for many years following his £80million move from Leicester City in 2019 but handled it all better than many stars would have. It seemed like his time at United could have been up in 2023 when he was strongly linked to West Ham following then-manager Erik ten Hag stripping him of the United captaincy. Maguire believes United get more hate than any club. Pic:However, Maguire decided to stay and fight for his place and is now recognised as a strong voice in Ruben Amorim's dressing room. Addressing the widespread criticism that seemed to follow him after every match, Maguire made a bold but potentially true claim about the English club. Appearing on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, he said: 'I think there's more scrutiny on Manchester United just because more people in the country hate them – and that's just a fact.' Maguire's transfer in 2019 was a world-record fee for a defender at the time and is remembered as one of many high-priced deals that have not gone to plan for United since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. He added: 'There has been a transition period, obviously, when [Ferguson] was here and we had the best team by far and won all the trophies. But the reality is that we're not the best team. 'You've got to thrive off the pressure and you've got to play like you're playing in a playground. I think that's what we've struggled to find over the last 10 years.' United have bolstered their attacking options. Pic: Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images The 32-year-old has not been a regular starter in Amorim's side but is a useful backup when the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez or Leny Yoro are unavailable. United are just off the back of their worst season in decades but Maguire believes that the tide is about to turn for the Red Devils. Amorim has drastically improved his attacking options over the transfer window, with the big-name signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. United are also reportedly linked to Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Maguire is hoping this 'fresh start' brings about a new United. Pic:Maguire told the podcast that these new additions, along with a £50m training ground upgrade, has allowed United to have a 'fresh start' going into the new season. He said: 'The lads are working hard and it's a great atmosphere in the place. 'We want to be successful, we're doing everything we can to be successful. Sometimes we know it's not been good enough for a recent (period) and we've not given our fans as much. 'I feel like it's almost a little bit of a fresh start and hopefully this start is a good start.' United will kick-off their new campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, August 17.

Rodríguez, 31, shared the news on Instagram on Monday with a photograph showing a large diamond ring on her finger, resting on the hand of the Portugal football star, 40. She captioned the image: "Yes I do. In this and in all my lives." The couple have two daughters together – Alana, seven, and Bella, three – while Bella's twin brother Angel died during birth. Speaking about their first meeting, she previously said: "I was finally able to leave the shop to go home three hours later than I should have, and as I was getting ready to leave Cristiano came in with his eldest son and some friends. "Let's just say it was butterflies in my stomach." The family are now based in Riyadh, where Ronaldo plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr. Rodríguez had posted her engagement update from the Saudi capital.
