Rahul Gandhi will not take oath on vote theft, says Shivakumar

Time of Indiaa day ago
Bengaluru: Deputy chief minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar Monday said Congress MP and Lok Sabha opposition leader
Rahul Gandhi
will not take an oath on vote theft claims as sought by chief electoral officers (CEOs) of three states.
He also said state CEOs had no authority to issue such a notice to Rahul.
"We are not schoolboys to reply to whatever
Election Commission
(EC) demands," he said. "It is their (EC) responsibility to get details which my leader (Rahul) exposed. He made a presentation on how it happened. It's now the EC's job to pursue it and initiate action."

He also said Congress has sought more information and records from the EC. "Let them first provide those records.
We officially asked for them. I personally went to the EC, so let them give us those records. At no point will Rahul Gandhi take an oath. He has answered the EC in public," he said.
He insisted that Congress had informed the EC about irregularities in elections, and it was the EC's duty to resolve those issues. "The EC is free to file a case against us if we have said anything wrong. We have only pointed out irregularities in the election process," he said.

On the notice issued to him, Shivakumar said: "I asked the EC for more information. They sent it to me on WhatsApp, but I have not gone through it yet. We will provide whatever information they want."
JD(S) seeks legal action
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (Secular) functionaries petitioned Karnataka's CEO to take legal action against Rahul for his 'vote theft' allegations. In a written appeal, they urged the CEO to act under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, dealing with false declarations, and Section 227 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, pertaining to providing false evidence.
They called Rahul's allegations "false" and accused him of misleading the public by speaking against an autonomous constitutional body. "It is unfortunate that they (
Congress party
) are making allegations against the election commission. This is out of frustration that they shall lose the upcoming polls in Bihar and other states," the letter stated.
The JD(S) delegation submitted the appeal at the election commission office, as the CEO was unavailable. MLC Javarayi Gowda, Bengaluru city working president KV Narayanaswamy, and general secretary S Ramesh were present.

Bihar: Minta Devi slams INDIA Bloc Protest Over 124-Year-Old Voter Claim

A woman from Bihar's Siwan district on Tuesday criticised Opposition MPs for using her name in their protest over alleged discrepancies in the voter list, after she was recorded as 124 years old in Election Commission (EC) records. INDIA bloc MPs earlier in the day staged a demonstration in Parliament wearing T-shirts featuring Minta Devi's name emblazoned with the slogan '124 Not Out' to highlight errors in the electoral roll. Reacting to the protest, Minta Devi told ANI that she learned about the issue only a few days ago and rejected the Opposition's use of her name and age for political purposes. "I came to know about this 2-4 days back... Who are they (Opposition MPs) to me? Who is Priyanka Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi to me? Who gave them the right to wear T-shirts featuring me?... I think there are discrepancies (in the list)... I did not get anyone's (from the administration) phone call... Why are they becoming my well-wisher over my age?... This should not be done, I do not want this..." she said. "I want my details to be corrected... Whoever entered the details, did they do so with their eyes closed?... If I am 124 years old in the eyes of the government, why are they not giving me old age pension? My Aadhaar Card mentions 15-07-1990 as my date of birth," she added. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today criticised the Election Commission of India, alleging that it has failed to uphold the principle of "One Man, One Vote," which he described as the foundation of the Constitution. Gandhi further accused the ECI of neglecting its duty, asserting that the Congress party is committed to protecting the Constitution and will continue to do. "We are protecting the Constitution. One Man One Vote is the foundation of the Constitution. It is the duty of the Election Commission to enforce One Man, One Vote, but they have not done their duty. We are protecting the Constitution, and we will keep doing it..." Earlier today, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge joined fellow INDIA bloc members in staging a protest in Parliament over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue. Several Opposition MPs arrived wearing white T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan '124 Not Out'. CPI(M) MP P Sandosh Kumar said the opposition intends to intensify its campaign, " INDIA parties' leaders are more energised and this has become an all-India campaign. We will intensify our fight against SIR. There is more unity among the coalition partners now. This will be a huge fight to save democracy..." Prominent leaders such as Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), MP Supriya Sule, and DMK MP Kanimozhi were seen holding onions during the protest.

Kulgam op being wound up: Officials

SRINAGAR: The 11-day-long anti-terror operation in the forests of south Kashmir's Kulgam district was being wound up, with no contact having been established with terrorists in the past 48 hours, officials said Tuesday. 'There has been no exchange of fire since Saturday,' a senior Army official confirmed. A senior police official said, 'The operation has now entered a low-key, subdued phase. We cannot, however, say that it has been called off entirely.' Top military commanders and police officers had been monitoring the operation. This was one of the longest anti-terror operations in recent years. Two soldiers from the Army's elite counter-insurgency unit — Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, both from Punjab — fell to terrorists' bullets; one local terrorist was shot dead, and 10 security personnel were injured in the operation. The encounter broke out on August 1 in Akhal Khulsan forests when a joint team of security forces was conducting a cordon-and-search operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of three to five ultras in the area. The combing party came under fire, triggering a gunfight in which one local terrorist was killed. The other suspects managed to escape, taking advantage of the thick forests and deep ravines, prompting one of the largest searches in the area, with security forces deploying drones for aerial surveillance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 5 Books Warren Buffett Recommends You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo During the operation, intermittent firing and blasts were heard. The two Armymen were killed in a fierce gunfight on Saturday morning, taking the death toll of security personnel killed in anti-terror operations in J&K this year to 16 — three in Kashmir Valley and 13 in Jammu division, including three casualties due to Pakistani firing during escalated tensions between both countries following Operation Sindoor. After the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, security forces have so far killed 14 terrorists in Kashmir this year, including three top Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives linked to the Pahalgam attack who were shot dead in Srinagar on July 28.
