Filmmakers from across the region have spent weeks immersed in the creative process—writing, filming and editing their visions into cinematic form. The result is a collection of stories that will now take center stage as the festival unfolds across three key events, set against the opulent backdrop of Dubai's Paramount Hotels. This year's edition is presented in collaboration with Nikon Middle East FZE, Aputure Middle East, Grand Stores, Westford University and Scripted Events, whose support continues to empower emerging voices in the film industry.
The festival officially opened on 21 June with a launch event at Malibu Sky Lounge atop Paramount Hotel Midtown, where guests and filmmakers gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in regional storytelling.
'We're not just opening a festival; we're setting the scene for a new generation of storytellers by staying true to our brand identity. Every film starts with a spark and this evening is where it begins,' said Pascal Eggerstedt, General Manager at Paramount Hotel Midtown.
Following the opening, the spotlight shifted behind the camera for a series of filmmaking workshops led by this year's distinguished panel of judges. On 25 June at Paramount Hotel Dubai, participants explored screenwriting and narrative development, while a second workshop on 26 June at DAMAC Maison Aykon City focused on directing, cinematography, and visual storytelling. These sessions aimed not only to educate but to inspire emerging creatives to confidently bring their stories to life.
The festival's final act takes place on 29 June at Paramount Hotel Dubai, with a Closing and Awards Ceremony that will showcase all 12 films in the hotel's iconic Screening Room. As the final credits roll, the spotlight will move to the awards presentation, where top honours will be given in key categories including Film of the Year, Director of the Year, Script of the Year, and more.
The winners will be chosen by a panel of respected industry professionals from around the world, including Egyptian actor Mohammed Mamdouh, Jordanian director Razan Takash, Oscar-recognised filmmaker Jingyu Liu, West End actress Mylène Gomera, and others from Nikon, Westford University and the regional media scene. Festival founder Nicolas Naim Zaboura, known for shaping immersive film experiences at Paramount Hotels, also serves on the jury.
Winners won't just take home accolades—they'll receive high-end filmmaking gear from Nikon, Aputure and Zhiyun, along with luxurious experiences at the Paramount Hotels, designed to keep their creative momentum alive.
'We've watched stories unfold, characters transform and visions come to life. This final evening is more than a celebration, it's tribute to the creative courage of every filmmaker who dared to tell their story,' added Nicholas Chalmers, General Manager of Paramount Hotel Dubai.

Denzel Washington isn't too interested in the Oscars

Denzel Washington has nine Academy Award nominations under his belt and is a two-time Oscar winner for his performances in the movies Glory and Training Day. However, the actor places no value on such career milestones, reported Variety. While speaking to Jake's Takes on his Highest 2 Lowest press tour, as quoted by Variety, Washington said no acting decision he makes has to do with winning awards, including the Oscars. "I don't do it for Oscars. I don't care about that kind of stuff. I've been at this a long time, and there's time when I won and shouldn't have won and then didn't win and should've won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward," Washington was quoted as saying by Variety. Washington continued, "I'm not that interested in Oscars. People ask me, 'Where do I keep it?' Well, next to the other one. I'm not bragging! Just telling you how I feel about it. On my last day, [Oscars] aren't going to do me a bit of good," he said. Earlier this year, Washington was considered a major Oscar snub after he failed to land a best supporting actor nomination for Gladiator II. The actor didn't care about it as he sarcastically told The New York Times when asked about the snub, "Are you kidding me? Aww, oh, I'm so upset. I'm happy for all that did, and I'm happy with what I'm doing." Not getting caught up in awards has long been Washington's mantra. His Training Day co-star Ethan Hawke appeared on Max's Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? last year and remembered how Washington leaned over to him when Hawke lost best supporting actor on Oscar night to tell him, "It's better that you didn't win. Losing was better." "You don't want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award's status. That's the way he thinks," Hawke said about Washington's advice in the moment. "That's what I'm talking about, playing with Babe Ruth. The Academy Award has more power because Denzel has a couple. It didn't elevate who he was," was quoted as saying by Variety.

Hunna launches 2025 Mentorship Programme for female Saudi musicians

From July to November, monthly workshops will feature leading regional and international women sharing insights on production, live performance, artist strategy and global positioning. Hunna, a women-led initiative dedicated to championing female talent across the MENA music scene, has launched its 2025 Mentorship Programme and workshop series in Saudi Arabia. The initiative will connect emerging female artists with established industry mentors while hosting workshops and community events across the region in the lead-up to XP Music Futures in Riyadh from December 4 to 6, according to a report by Al Arabiya English. Now in its third edition, the flagship programme builds on Hunna's mission to professionalise, amplify and connect women in music. The network, which has more than 120 active members from Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and beyond, aims to equip women creatives with the resources, connections, and visibility needed to succeed in an evolving global music industry. Six mentees from the MENA region and its diaspora were selected through a rigorous, anonymised process led by the Hunna Committee, a diverse panel of industry professionals and past mentees. The 2025 mentor-mentee pairings include Tunisian music entrepreneur Chaima Soudani with Celine Hitti, Head of Artist Services MENA at Believe; electronic-pop artist Nadine Lingawi ('Fulana') with Emmy-nominated composer and BBC Radio 3 presenter Hannah Peel; Egyptian multi-instrumentalist Martina Ashraf with Montréal-based experimental electronic artist Liliane Chlela; Saudi composer and pianist Nora Aljebrin with Tarabband lead vocalist Nadin Al Khalidi; DJ and producer Lena Chercaoui with Saudi DJ pioneer Cosmicat; and Palestinian-Jordanian vocalist Lina Sleibi with singer-songwriter and visual creative Lina Makoul. Named after the Arabic plural for 'she,' Hunna continues to work at the intersection of cultural advocacy, professional development and community care, grounded in the values of professionalisation, amplification and collaboration. The 2025 programme begins with the 'Introduction to Music Production Workshop' on August 20 at Beast House in Riyadh, hosted by Laughta and Cosmicat. A virtual masterclass titled 'Plan A Release,' led by Lina ElSahli of MDLBeast Records, will follow on August 27, offering practical guidance on preparing and executing a professional music release. From July to November, monthly workshops will bring in leading regional and international women to cover topics including production, live performance, artist strategy and global positioning. These sessions are open to all Hunna community members, underscoring the initiative's commitment to accessibility and shared growth. The programme will culminate with the Hunna Gathering at XP Music Futures in Riyadh from December 4 to 6, described as the 'emotional heart' of the initiative, a space for mentors, mentees, alumni and the broader community to connect, reflect and celebrate. XP Music Futures, now in its fourth year, is organised by MDLBeast and will be held at Riyadh's JAX District. The three-day event will feature a diverse lineup of global and regional speakers, addressing topics such as maintaining grassroots culture, the role of AI in the creative economy and using music for climate action. The conference blends panels, workshops, live performances, and immersive experiences, reinforcing its position as a leading platform for the region's music industry.
