MOUNT GILEAD, Ohio (WCMH) – Funeral arrangements have been made for a Morrow County sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Memorial Day.
Deputy Daniel 'Weston' Sherrer, a 2012 St. Charles graduate, will be laid to rest Wednesday at a private ceremony at Marion Cemetery, in Marion. Visitation will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Northmor High School, which is between Mount Gilead and Galion.

Services to honor and celebrate Sherrer will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the school, with former sheriff and current pastor Steve Brenneman officiating.
Sherrer was engaged to be married and is survived by his parents and other relatives.
He responded Monday night to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence south of Marengo. A man there, Brian Wilson, confronted Sherrer, who was fatally wounded in a shootout. Wilson, facing a charge of aggravated murder, remains hospitalized and is in the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.
Sherrer's body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office before a police escort brought him back Wednesday to Mount Gilead in a 120-mile procession.
Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered flags flown at half staff until the completion of funeral services, and several local businesses have come together in support of the Sherrer family.

Memorial Day draws attention to veteran sacrifice
Varied ways to lift up the memory of veterans who provided the ultimate sacrifice occurred in different places in different ways Monday as area communities found ways to commemorate Memorial Day. The ceremonies varied as much as the communities that sponsored them. Many continued traditions started decades ago and are repeated each year as a reminder of the abiding care for veterans. The village of Rock Creek showed up in force and marched south on Route 45 from High Street to Union Cemetery complete with the Jefferson Area High School Marching Band providing music. Ceremonies took place throughout the county, including Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva, Conneaut's War Memorial and Ashtabula's War Memorial as well as many small townships in between.

Loop 202 on-ramp in southeast Valley now closed for 2 months. What to know
After a Memorial Day weekend break from freeway closures and restrictions, temporary closures and restrictions were planned for the May 30 through June 2 weekend on several Valley freeways and roads. This work included the Loop 202 improvement project, which includes adding and widening lanes, improving pavement, widening overpass bridges and constructing noise walls on parts of the freeway in the southeast Valley. The eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) on-ramp at Arizona Avenue in the Chandler area closed on May 28. The closure, as part of a $200 million improvement project, was set to last 60 days. The Arizona Department of Transportation said crews were reconstructing the ramp as part of the Loop 202 widening project. It was scheduled to reopen in late July. When complete, lanes will be added and interchanges improved along 8 miles of Loop 202 between Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and Val Vista Drive in Chandler and Gilbert. ADOT suggested drivers use detour routes, entering eastbound Loop 202 at Alma School or McQueen roads.
