2025 NFL Scouting Combine: Kansas City Chiefs held 'formal meeting' with Toldeo standout
According to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Chiefs had a "formal meeting" with Toledo Rockets defensive lineman Darius Alexander this week at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.Although the Chiefs don't appear to be in the market to take a defensive lineman in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, Kansas City's front office continues to evaluate young, talented prospects who can impact defense.
During his session at the combine on Thursday, Alexander was unofficially timed at 4.95 seconds in the 40-yard Dash and 1.72 seconds in the 10-yard split.Alexander was a standout at the Senior Bowl in 2024. The defensive tackle collected 40 tackles, eight for loss, 3.5 sacks, and an interception. He was named Second-team All-MAC and started 12 games for Toledo.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has done well selecting prospects on the defensive line over the past few seasons. George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, and Chris Jones are notable draft picks that have helped Steve Spagnuolo's defense become one of the best units in the league.

Chiefs' Andy Reid Gets Prestigious Ranking

Chiefs' Andy Reid Gets Prestigious Ranking originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Patrick Mahomes got blown out in a Super Bowl and, sure, Travis Kelce is coming off a career-worst season and is a descending player. But, according to most NFL analysts, the Kansas City Chiefs remain favorites to get to this year's Super Bowl for one reason: Advertisement Andy Reid. Pro Football Focus this week named Reid as the league's best head coach heading into the 2025 season. After going 15-2 in the regular season (15-1 when trying to win) and returning to the Super Bowl for the third consecutive season, Reid is a slam dunk at this point. "Like Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and the New England Patriots teams before them, the Kansas City Chiefs are the masters of situational football," PFF writes. "The Chiefs played in 12 one-score games last season, including the playoffs, and won all of them. They found a way to reach the Super Bowl for the third straight season because Andy Reid has his entire team prepared for any situation." Because of the return of Pete Carroll (74 in September) to the NFL as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, the 67-year-old Reid is no longer the NFL's oldest head coach. But he remains the best. Advertisement He has won three Super Bowls, been named NFL Coach of the Year and has 273 career regular-season victories, trailing only Belichick (302), George Halas (318) and Don Shula (328). Julian Edelman, Gronk name QB they'd want if Tom Brady never existed

Imagine a world where seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady didn't exist. What current NFL quarterback would be the best to captain the ship under center with Rob Gronkowski at tight end and Julian Edelman at wide receiver? Gronkowski and Edelman both chimed in on the hypothetical quarterback switch with two different answers. Most would expect the two to choose Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner. However, Gronkowski instead went with Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, while Edelman chose Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow. "Josh Allen, I love his game. It reminds me of myself at the quarterback position. That was a no-brainer for me. That was the first quarterback that popped up in my head," said Gronkowski on the Dudes on Dudes podcast. Edelman agreed that Allen would be a good choice, and he'd be happy with that option. But he ultimately decided to take things in a different direction. "I would love Josh Allen, but I would love to have Burrow," said Edelman. "I mean, you would love to have Mahomes. Our offense is a little different. There's a little more drop-back pass. I don't know, I mean, Mahomes is pretty good, too, but I think Burrow. I don't want someone running as much as Mahomes on those third downs. I want them throwing because I want those third downs." Allen is the reigning NFL MVP, and Burrow put together an MVP-caliber season last year, despite his team letting him down at every turn. Both would have thrived in an offense with the greatest tight end of all time and one of the all-time great slot receivers as go-to weapons. With that said, it's hard to envision anyone other than Brady throwing to Edelman and Gronkowski. The trio cemented a legacy together in New England that might never be topped. Jason Kelce: Chiefs rookie Josh Simmons reminds me of Trent Williams

Chiefs first-round pick Josh Simmons was limited in his offseason work as he continues to work his way back from the knee injury that ended his final season at Ohio State, but the offensive tackle did enough work to make an impression on tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce said on his New Heights podcast that Simmons stood in as a scout team defensive end during a recent practice and that he felt 'I gotta come with it' when Simmons put his hands on him. Kelce's brother and co-host Jason knows quite a bit about playing the offensive line and said 'watching the tape [of Simmons] in college was absurd' and made a lofty comparison when sharing what player the rookie resembled in that tape. 'I've watched a lot of these linemen coming out the last few years,' Kelce said. 'This kid, I mean, he is the closest thing I've seen to like a Trent Williams — like that next level strength and athleticism. The only reason he fell to you guys is because of that injury.' Left tackle was a weak spot for the Chiefs last season and the dam broke once and for all in their Super Bowl loss to the Eagles. If Simmons can plug that hole, the Chiefs will be well positioned for another long run this year.
