Speaking on the occasion, he said the cost of cultivation for paddy, chilli, Bengal gram and cotton crops ranges from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 per acre to extend helping hand to the famers, the Centre and state governments extending financial assistance of Rs 20,000 per year. He said, the farmers in several states are using services of Krishi Vignan Kendras,and added that the Acharya Ranga Agricultural University has been developed with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
He said the use of bio-pesticides has increased, but due to adulterated products from some companies, cancer-causing risks are rising. He further said under the coalition government, effective water management for agriculture has been implemented under the leadership of CM Chandrababu Naidu and the availability of drones for agriculture has increased, and these can significantly improve productivity.

BJP leader urges Andhra CM to consider ''Four Water Concept'' as alternative to PBLP
Hyderabad: BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Thursday urged Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu to consider the Four Water Concept (FWC) of late engineer T Hanumanth Rao as an alternative to the Polavaram (Godavari)-Banakacharla Link Project (PBLP). In a letter to Naidu, Shashidhar Reddy, Former Vice Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said FWC is a viable, low-cost alternative to the Banakacharla project, which can be implemented in about two years. The FWC is capable of providing water for three crops annually and can cater to 30 lakh acres at a total cost of just Rs 4,500 crores (at Rs 15,000 per acre at current rates). This would be a fraction of even the minimum basic estimated cost of Rs 81,900 crore for the Banakacharla project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government, he said. Shashidhar Reddy recalled that Naidu, as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, had launched the 'Neeru-Meeru' (massive watershed managment) programme in 2000 in the wake of a devastating drought. The project yielded "excellent results". "I see you as a visionary and a class apart. I am confident that you will seriously consider shelving the Polavaram-Banakacharla project and opt for implementing FWC at a fraction of its cost with triple benefit of providing water for three crops in a year," he said in the letter to Naidu. In the Four Waters concept, the focus is on using rainwater, surface water, groundwater, and maintenance of soil moisture at a high level to improve water availability and agricultural productivity. The concept promotes the use of simple, low-cost earthen structures like percolation tanks, farm ponds, and trenches instead of large cement structures. The Polavaram (Godavari)-Banakacharla Link Project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government faced opposition from Telangana. The Telangana government complained to the Union Jal Shakti Ministry that the project hurts the state's interests.

All Assam Students' Union to protest dropping of foreigners tribunal cases against non-Muslims
The All Assam Students' Union on Thursday said that it will protest against the state government's decision to drop foreigners tribunals cases against non-Muslims who entered the state before 2015. The Assamese nationalist students' organisation also demanded the withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act from Assam. Scroll was the first to report on Tuesday that Assam's Bharatiya Janata Party government, citing the amended citizenship Act, has asked district authorities and members of the foreigners tribunals to drop cases against persons from six communities – Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi – who entered the state on or before December 31, 2014. The state's home and political department had held a meeting on July 17 and discussed 'issues related to foreigners tribunal with reference to Citizenship Amendment Act' and the 'dropping off cases'. The meeting was held following a directive from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In its statement on Thursday, the All Assam Students' Union said that it opposed the government's order directing the withdrawal of the cases against 'illegal Hindu Bangladeshis' pending before the tribunals and demanded the cancellation of the decision that 'granted protection' to them. It added that copies of the order would be burnt by members of the organisation in every district headquarters on Friday. 'This directive that seeks to protect Bangladeshis must be repealed,' the statement said. 'There must be a permanent solution to the burning problem of illegal foreign nationals in Assam on the basis of the Assam Accord,' it added. 'Therefore, it is necessary to expel all illegal Bangladeshis, Hindu and Muslim, who came after 1971 on the basis of the Assam Accord.' Assam was not a 'pasture' for undocumented Bangladeshi migrants, the group said, adding that the Union government was 'unfairly' imposing the Citizenship Amendment Act on the state. The Citizenship Amendment Act is aimed to provide a fast track to citizenship to refugees from six minority religious communities, except Muslims, from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the condition that they have lived in India for six years and have entered the country by December 31, 2014. It was passed by Parliament in December 2019. The Union government notified the rules under the Act in March 2024. The foreigners tribunals in Assam are quasi-judicial bodies that adjudicate on matters of citizenship based on lineage and a 1971 cut-off date. They rely primarily on documents submitted by persons to establish their family's residency in Assam or India before 1971. The tribunals have been accused of arbitrariness and bias, and declaring people foreigners on the basis of minor spelling mistakes, a lack of documents or lapses in memory. Of the 1.6 lakh persons declared foreigners so far, more than 69,500 are Hindus. Critics contend that the Citizenship Amendment Act undermines the 1985 Assam Accord between the Union government and the leaders of the Assam Movement, which was launched in 1979 to identify and deport undocumented immigrants. The accord stipulates that anyone who entered Assam after the midnight of March 24, 1971, be identified and deported. Assamese nationalist view 'illegal migrants', irrespective of their religion, as a threat to the state's culture and resources. On Thursday, the All Assam Students' Union also noted that the Union government had ensured that '98% of Meghalaya, 70% of Tripura and eight districts, including BTR [Bodoland Territorial Region] and hill districts, of Assam' did not come under the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Act. 'This means that CAA does not apply in most of the states and places in the North East,' the statement said. 'There are 27 out of 35 districts in Assam where the CAA is in force. Assam is the worst affected state in the North East.' Claiming that the Act was harmful and 'anti-indigenous', the All Assam Students' Union said that Assam must be completely excluded from its scope. 70,000 designated foreigners may become citizens, says Congress Congress leader Debabrata Saikia said on Thursday that he had sent a letter to several organisations in the state, urging them to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act and to form public opinion against it. The leader of the Opposition in the Assembly said that Act violated the Assam Accord. 'The BJP government is presently formulating plans to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act, which contravenes the Assam Accord, and to grant citizenship to foreigners,' Saikia said. The chief minister has already issued directions on the withdrawal of the cases against foreign nationals pending in the tribunals on the basis of their religion, Saikia added. 'Should this order be implemented, approximately half a million foreign nationals within our state, currently excluded by the Assam Accord, would become eligible for Indian citizenship,' he claimed. About 70,000 persons previously designated as foreigners by the tribunals may also become Indian citizens, the Congress leader added. 'This decision of the government will not only violate the Assam Accord but also have a negative impact on the economic situation and limited natural resources of our state,' Saikia said, adding that the government had not refuted reports about its directive. The Citizenship Amendment Act had sparked massive protests in Assam and several other parts of the country in 2019 and 2020. However, the amended law was welcomed by Assam's Bengali Hindus. In August 2019, Assam published a National Register of Citizens with the aim of separating Indian citizens from undocumented immigrants living in the state. More than 19 lakh persons, or 5.7% of the applicants, were left out of the final list. In March 2024, Sarma said five lakh Bengali Hindus, two lakh Assamese Hindu groups Koch-Rajbongshi, Das, Kalita and Sarma (Assamese), and 1.5 lakh Gorkhas had been left out of the National Register of Citizens. The chief minister had also said that seven lakh Muslims are among the 19 lakh persons excluded from the register. The ruling BJP had claimed that Hindus excluded from the register in Assam would be able to gain citizenship under the amended law. There have been fears that Muslims would be the only ones who stand to lose their citizenship in such an exercise.

Nifty ends above 24,550; media shares in demand
The domestic equity benchmarks ended with small gains today, snapping a two-day losing streak, despite investor concerns over the U.S. imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian exports. The Nifty settled above the 24,550 mark. Media, IT and pharma shares advanced, while oil & gas and realty shares declined. As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 79.27 points or 0.10% to 80,623.26. The Nifty 50 index rose 21.95 points or 0.09% to 24,596.15. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 30% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index fell 0.18%. The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,869 shares rose and 2,168 shares fell. A total of 154 shares were unchanged. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, dropped 2.27% to 11.69. Trump's Tariff: United States President Donald Trump announced an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods on August 6. This effectively doubles the total import duties to 50%. The decision responds to Indias ongoing purchase of Russian oil, which the U.S. believes undermines its sanctions. The new tariffs will come into effect on August 27. The move is expected to severely impact key Indian export sectors, including leather, chemicals, footwear, gems and jewellery, textiles, and shrimp. Stocks in Spotlight: Hero Motocorp advanced 4.37% after the companys standalone net profit rose 0.3% to Rs 1,125.70 crore despite a 5.6% decline in revenue from operations to Rs 9,578.86 crore in Q1 FY26 over Q1 FY25. Sula Vineyards declined 3.84% after the companys consolidated net profit tumbled 86.7% to Rs 1.94 crore on a 9.3% fall in revenue from operations (excluding net excise duty) to Rs 109.64 crore in Q1 FY26 over Q1 FY25. Trent shed 0.85%. The company reported a 9.45% increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 429.69 crore in Q1 FY26 as against Rs 392.57 crore posted in Q1 FY25. Revenue from operations jumped 18.98% YoY to Rs 4,883.48 crore in the quarter ended 30 June 2025. Jindal Stainless declined 1.53%. The company has reported an 11% rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 715 crore on an 8% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 10,207 crore in Q1 FY26 over Q1 FY25. Rain Industries surged 6.41% after the company reported a net profit of Rs 60.70 crore in Q2 FY25, compared to a loss of Rs 77.88 crore in Q2 FY24. IRCON International declined 1.89% after the companys consolidated net profit dropped 26.75% to Rs 164.10 crore in Q1 FY26, compared to Rs 224.03 crore in Q1 FY25. Revenue from operations declined 21.89% to Rs 1,786.28 crore during the quarter, compared to Rs 2,287.13 crore in the same quarter last year. VIP Industries rose 1.66%. The firm reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 13.10 crore in Q1 FY26 compared with a net profit of Rs 4.04 crore in Q1 FY25. Revenue from operations declined 12.12% year on year (YoY) to Rs 561.43 crore in the quarter ended 30 June 2025. Fortis Healthcare jumped 2.83% after the company reported a 56.83% surge in consolidated net profit to Rs 260.28 crore in Q1 FY26, compared to Rs 165.96 crore in Q1 FY25. Revenue from operations rose 16.55% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 2,166.72 crore in the quarter ended 30 June 2025. RateGain Travel Technologies added 3.04% after the companys consolidated net profit jumped 3% to Rs 46.93 crore on a 4.96% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 272.91 crore in Q1 FY26 over Q1 FY25. Global Markets: Most European markets traded higher on Thursday as investors turned their focus to the upcoming Bank of England monetary policy meeting. Most Asian indices ended higher even as U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to impose a 100% tariff on imports of semiconductors and chips. However, the companies that are building in the United States would be exempted from the said tariff. Meanwhile, South Korea posted a record-high current account surplus in June on strong demand for technology exports, central bank data showed on Thursday. The country's current account stood at a surplus of $14.27 billion, up from $10.14 billion in May. It was reportedly the biggest monthly surplus in the data series dating back to January 1980. South Korea's trade deal with the U.S. will take a huge burden off monetary policymakers at their upcoming meeting later this month, the country's central bank governor reportedly said on Thursday at his first meeting with the newly appointed finance minister. The Bank of Korea kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 2.50% last month, but a majority of board members signaled another rate cut in the next three months and warned of "significant" economic uncertainty from the U.S. tariffs. The central bank next meets on August 28. All three major equity averages on Wall Street finished with gains on Wednesday. The S&P 500 advanced 0.73% to finish at 6,345.06, while the Nasdaq Composite jumped 1.21%, closing at 21,169.42. The Dow Jones Industrial Average also rose 81.38 points, or 0.18%, to end the day at 44,193.12.
