Global Markets: European shares opened higher on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump revived hopes for a trade deal with the EU following an agreement with Japan. Most Asian markets ended higher , with Nikkei leading the gains, after President Donald Trump announced the signing of a "massive trade deal with Japan. The deal includes reciprocal tariffs of 15% on the countrys exports to the U.S., with auto duties reportedly being lowered to that level as well. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba reportedly said that he needed to examine the deal before commenting. Additionally, the news that Washington had reportedly achieved agreements with the Philippines and Indonesia encouraged investors, giving them hope that other nations may also reach arrangements to avoid the worst of the US president's levies. Equity markets have been rising in recent weeks on hope that countries will eventually sign trade deals with the US. This is despite the fact that there haven't been many agreements reached with Trump, despite the deadline of 01 August 2025. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and other indexes eased off the day's highs, while the S&P 500 set another new high in the final minutes of trading Tuesday, as investors grinded through countless quarterly financial results. According to media reports, the S&P 500 companies are expected to report a 7% increase in earnings on average for the second quarter, with technology heavyweights driving much of that gain. Meanwhile, U.S. trade policy remains a major point of uncertainty for investors and companies as Trump's self-imposed 01 August deadline for many countries to reach agreements with the White House approaches. On Tuesday, GM tumbled after the automaker reported a $1 billion hit from tariffs to its quarterly results, adding more fuel to investor concerns about U.S. President Donald Trump's global trade policy. The recent rally in Wall Streets most valuable companies has been fueled by the optimism about heavy spending on artificial intelligence. Following the mixed economic data released last week, reports suggest that the market has trimmed its expectations about interest-rate cuts from the U.S. Federal Reserve at next week's policy meeting. The market now expects about a 60% chance of a reduction in rates at the September meeting.

Rolls-Royce Cars Of Big B, Aamir Khan Fined 38 Lakhs. There's A 'KGF' Twist
Bengaluru: They say, "What's in a name?" Well, it meant a lot in a bizarre case in Bengaluru when two high-end cars with the names of two Bollywood superstars as owners (only on paper) were fined lakhs of rupees. Two Rolls-Royce cars, each registered in the names of Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, were fined more than 18 lakh and 19 lakh, respectively, for failing to pay road tax in the capital city of Karnataka. However, they don't own these cars, at least not anymore. Both cars are owned by a local businessman-politician, Yusuf Sharif, who was using the ultra-luxury vehicles regularly. He bought the cars from the Bollywood icons a few years ago, but didn't transfer them into his name. Mr Sharif was also known as 'KGF Babu' due to his roots. He is a native of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), a mining town in Karnataka, which gained popularity after the blockbuster Kannada movie series, 'KGF'. The Rolls-Royce Phantom, bought from Mr Bachchan, and the Rolls-Royce Ghost, originally owned by Mr Khan, are registered in Maharashtra. The exact date of when KGF Babu bought these cars is not known as of yet. But, as per the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the Rolls-Royce Phantom has been in Bengaluru since 2021, and the other one since 2023. While Phanton was fined Rs 18.53 lakh, Ghost was fined Rs 19.73 lakh over long-term usage in Karnataka without payment of local road tax. Officials revealed that the Rolls-Royce Phantom was first flagged over non-payment of taxes in 2021, but since at the time it had not completed a year in Bengaluru, it was let off without penalty. But now, both cars have been confirmed to have been operating in the city well beyond the one-year limit set by transport rules, triggering these hefty fines. RTO officials have confirmed that the ownership of the vehicles hasn't changed yet on paper. Mr Sharif, who contested from Bangalore Urban local authorities' constituency in the 2021 Karnataka Legislative Council polls, had declared assets belonging to him and his family worth over Rs 1,744 crore four years ago. He was earlier into selling scrap before foraying into real estate.
