Youth should be served for Sixers in 2025-26 despite title expectations
The Sixers landed VJ Edgecombe (19) with the No. 3 pick of the draft and should focus on his development along with Jared McCain (21), Adem Bona (22), Johni Broome (23), and Dominick Barlow (22). While Philadelphia will be looking to win a title led by Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George, it has to think about its future as well.
Morey did give his own expectations for Embiid and George while speaking in Las Vegas at summer league, but it's hard to count on both players right now. Embiid, who is recovering from his second left knee surgery in 14 months, spoke with ESPN and did not give a timeline for his return to the floor:
"We don't have a timeline," Embiid tells me. "Hopefully, sooner rather than later."
I ask if the organization supports his new, patient approach.
"I don't know how they feel. The only thing I'd say is -- this is a business," Embiid tells me. "It's all about the results. … If I come back early enough and I'm still not myself, guess what? You're not winning any games."
George recently underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee after experiencing some discomfort in an offseason workout. As terrific as everybody knows George is, it's hard to believe he will get back to an All-Star level at this stage of his career when considering he is now 35 years old. Of course, anything can happen, but it's hard to really count on either player at this point right now.
Which is why the Sixers should begin building toward the future. Even Maxey (24) is a big part of that. A youth brigade led by Maxey, Edgecombe, McCain, and--likely--Quentin Grimes (25) should be at the forefront. Philadelphia should explore what those four can do while giving Bona, Broome, Barlow, and Jabari Walker (22) extensive minutes.
If Embiid and George are healthy? Then great! Go chase a title. However, it's hard to believe they can get be healthy enough for that to become a reality. It would behoove the Sixers to explore what the younger pieces can do in 2025-26.

Candace Parker calls effort in WNBA All-Star Game ‘awful'
Seven-time WNBA All-Star Candace Parker was unimpressed by the effort in the All-Star Game. Parker criticized the game on a podcast that aired Wednesday, calling it 'awful.' 'Y'all cannot come out there with those shirts of 'Pay Us What You Owe Us' and then do that,' Parker told All-Star Aliyah Boston on their new podcast 'Post Moves.' Parker was referencing the warmup shirts both teams wore at the July 19 game in response to failed collective-bargaining negotiations with the league earlier that week. Players are fighting for higher pay and better benefits, among other improvements. The game set a WNBA All-Star record for points scored and Napheesa Collier set the individual scoring mark with 36 points. Team Collier beat Team Clark 151-131. Defense was at a minimum as the league's stars allowed each other to get shots up without contest. It wasn't unlike the all-star games across other pro leagues, but Parker was looking for more from WNBA players at a time when they're in the spotlight. 'I think on one of the biggest stages, in an All-Star setting that was invested in more than any other All-Star game previously. … I think it would've really maximized the moment.' Fever forward Boston, who played on Team Clark, defended the performance of her and her peers. 'An All-Star Game, where we have another game in two days, I think that it's OK to just go out there and hoop and have some fun,' she said. 'Because on Tuesday, we were back at it, and we were playing and we were showing once again why we deserve to get paid.'

Should Eagles have interest in Micah Parsons after he requested a trade from the Cowboys?
Micah Parsons has requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, and while a deal is unlikely, Howie Roseman should inquire about a potential deal The Dallas Cowboys struggle to keep their stars happy, and the latest example is the handling of Micah Parsons' contract status in Dallas. Parsons has been one of the best linebackers in the NFL since being selected by the Dallas Cowboys two spots behind DeVonta Smith (Eagles) in the 2021 NFL draft. Since departing Penn State, Parsons, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, has developed into a four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher and is annually among the NFL defensive player of the year favorites. Had Philadelphia selected Parsons in the 2021 NFL draft, Howie Roseman would have signed him to a five-year deal worth a maximum of $150 million with $87.5 million guaranteed, similar to what the New York Giants did for Brian Burns. Now, after some contentious back-and-forth, the All-Pro pass rusher has requested a trade in a long, emotional social media post. Early on Friday, reports surfaced that Parsons and Dallas are going through contentious contract negotiations, according to Diana Russini of The Athletic. The relationship between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys has deteriorated to the point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures, which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team, according to a league source familiar with the situation. The two sides remain far apart heading into the second week of training camp and are not currently negotiating. Since 2019, Ezekiel Elliott, Zack Martin, and CeeDee Lamb all staged holdouts, while Dak Prescott didn't sign his most recent contract extension until hours before kickoff of the season opener last September. In Philadelphia, Jalen Hurts has been extended, and Saquon Barkley signed a huge deal, followed by another extension. At the same time, A.J. Brown has been extended twice since being traded to Philadelphia in 2022. Every starter on the Eagles' offensive line, except Tyler Steen, is among the highest paid at their positions and blessed with extensions early on in the process. Lane Johnson has signed two extensions in the past three years, while Jalen Carter will be extension eligible following this season, and he'll quickly become one of the highest-paid defensive tackles in the NFL without any ugly moments or media theatrics from the owner or general manager.
