Indian statement on IIOJK attackers ‘replete with fabrications', says Pakistan
Indian Home Minister Amit Shah told parliament on Tuesday that the three militants killed in a gun battle in a IIOJK forest this week were the perpetrators of the April 22 attack and that New Delhi had found evidence to back it.
Pakistan has denied involvement in the attack in which 26 men were shot dead - the worst assault on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks - and sought an independent investigation.
'The account given by the Indian home minister is replete with fabrications, leading to serious questions about its credibility,' Pakistan's foreign ministry said in a statement.
The attackers, who India claimed were Pakistani nationals backed by Islamabad, had opened fire in a valley popular with tourists in IIOJK's scenic, mountainous region of Pahalgam, before fleeing into the surrounding pine forests.
It led New Delhi to target what it called 'terrorist infrastructure' in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, leading to four days of intense fighting in May between the nuclear-armed neighbours before they agreed to a ceasefire.

Pakistan, UK agree to deepen defence cooperation
Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of defence, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. The ministers announced the creation of a new UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council, bringing together senior business leaders and government officials to facilitate high-value trade and investment. The council will provide strategic advice on policy reform, offer a confidential forum for engagement, and help promote commercial opportunities by addressing market access challenges and sharing best practices. The UK has also announced up to £200,000 to support Pakistan's aspirations to attract investment from the UK. The funds will provide technical assistance for investor outreach, and support matchmaking between Pakistani investors and UK-based opportunities. Bilateral trade is currently valued at £4.7 billion.

The rebuttal came after The Intercept, a US publication, claimed in its latest report that Pakistan supplied weapons to Ukraine via the US. The publication backed its claims by two sources with knowledge of the arrangement, saying that internal documents from both the Pakistani and American governments confirm the development.

India: chickens have finally come home to roost
In an interesting but important development, US President Donald Trump has said he 'will substantially raise tariffs on India' over its purchases of Russian oil. In his new post, the US President assailed New Delhi for buying Russian oil and then selling it. Over the weekend the Indian government had said that India would keep purchasing oil from Russia despite Trump threats, prompting White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller to officially accuse India of effectively financing Russia's war in Ukraine by purchasing oil from Moscow. The Indian diaspora or NRIs (non-resident Indians) in North America in particular are being chastised for Modi government's policy of funding the Russian war to kill innocent men and women in Ukraine. India deserved it because it had been trying to appease both the US and Russia simultaneously by pursuing the policy of running with the hares and hunting with the hounds. Now for the Sangh Parivar chickens have finally come home to roost. The consequences of India's bad actions are therefore unpleasant and unavoidable.
