New Delhi: Pakistan has confirmed that it is going to buy KJ-500 surveillance aircraft from China after India shot down two of its three SAAB AEW&C surveillance aircraft during Operation Sindoor. The Indian S-400 air defense system made a record by shooting down a SAAB AEW&C from a distance of 314 kilometers after which Pakistan's surveillance capability has been destroyed by more than 70 percent. But now Pakistan's confirmation of the acquisition of the Chinese KJ-500 AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) aircraft can pose a new strategic challenge for India. China claims that this aircraft is not just a surveillance platform but a 'flying command center', which will give Pakistan advance information about the operations of the Indian Air Force. What is KJ-500 AEW&C?
KJ-500 is a state-of-the-art airborne early warning system developed by China's Shanxi Aircraft Corporation. This aircraft is based on the Y-9 transport platform and has a permanent AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar installed in it, which gives 360-degree coverage. This radar system is capable of detecting fighter jets flying at a distance of 470 kilometers or more. If China's claim is true, it will mean that Pakistan can now look deep inside Indian airspace, that too without crossing the border. If a KJ-500 is flying near Lahore, it can track air activities up to New Delhi. What are the features of KJ-500?
Defense experts believe that the cost of each KJ-500 aircraft is around $300 million which is much less than the surveillance aircraft built by American Boeing. China claims that it can fly continuously for about 12 hours and it is capable of flying continuously for 5700 kilometers. Pakistani experts believe that this aircraft gets the ability to maintain constant situational awareness on disputed air corridors from the Arabian Sea to the Himalayan borders. Actually, the AEW&C platform is not limited to just seeing. Its real strategic value is seen when it connects with fighter jets, drones, missile batteries and ground control centers through a network. KJ-500 will provide Pakistan with real time data processing and command and control, which will speed up its decision-making process. What are India's preparations against China-Pakistan combination?
Experts believe that the KJ-500 may trouble the Indian Air Force initially, but not for long because India has invested heavily in the defense sector and is working on many projects to strengthen its electronic warfare system. India's Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the 'Acceptance of Necessity' for the Rs 10,000 crore ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) project. This decision is a part of India's defense modernization program, under which the Air Force will get three state-of-the-art ISTAR aircraft. The specialty of these aircraft will be that they will integrate indigenous technology, sensors and electronic systems developed by DRDO along with world-class aviation platforms. India is preparing its defense much faster than Pakistan and the China-Pakistan alliance, though a matter of concern, but there is no need to be afraid.

Onus on Pakistan to normalise ties with India: Tharoor

New Delhi: India no longer has the appetite to take the first step in normalising ties with Pakistan after repeated betrayals, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Tuesday, urging Islamabad to demonstrate sincerity by dismantling terror networks operating from its soil. He was speaking at the launch of the book 'Whither India-Pakistan Relations Today?', an anthology edited by former ambassador Surendra Kumar. The Thiruvananthapuram MP said every Indian attempt at outreach -- from Jawaharlal Nehru's pact with Liaqat Ali Khan in 1950, to Atal Bihari Vajpayee's bus journey to Lahore in 1999, and Narendra Modi's Lahore visit in 2015 -- had been 'betrayed' by hostility from across the border. 'Given the record of Pakistani behaviour, the onus is on them. They're the ones who have to take the first steps to show some sincerity about dismantling terror infrastructure on their soil. 'Why can't they be serious about shutting down these terror camps? Everyone knows where they are. The UN committee has a list of 52 names of individuals, organisations and places in Pakistan. It's not that Pakistan doesn't know they exist,' Tharoor said. He said, 'Shut them down, arrest some of these characters, show some serious intent.' India would be more than willing to reciprocate once such action is taken, but won't take the first step now, the Congress leader said. Recalling the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Tharoor said India had provided 'overwhelming evidence' of Pakistani involvement, including live intercepts and dossiers, yet 'not one mastermind has been prosecuted'. He noted that New Delhi showed 'extraordinary restraint' after attacks, but subsequent provocations left India with little choice, leading to surgical strikes in 2016 and 'Operation Sindoor'. 'In my book Pax Indica, which was published in 2012, I had warned that if there was ever another Mumbai-like attack of comparable impact, with clear evidence of Pakistani complicity, the restraint we had shown in 2008 might become impossible and all bets would be off. 'And indeed, that is exactly what happened. No democratic government, least of all in India with its long record of betrayals by Pakistan, could sit idle while its neighbour assaults its civilians and innocent holidaymakers with impunity,' he explained. Tharoor also stressed that 'peace and tranquillity on the borders is indispensable to our national interest', and cited the reconciliation between France and Germany after World War II, as well as the United States' eventual ties with Vietnam, as examples of adversaries turning into partners. The discussion was also joined by former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal, former Indian ambassador to Pakistan T C A Raghavan, ex-Army chief general Deepak Kapoor and academician Amitabh Mattoo.

Why Amit Shah's Plan To Amend The Constitution Could Be Dangerous

The Indian government is trying to amend the constitution in a big way. The 130th Constitution Amendment Bill, 2025, proposed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, if passed, will give governors and LGs unprecedented power to remove ministers and chief ministers. It also allows the president to sack the prime minister – though we know that chances of a sitting prime minister being arrested by central agencies they control are close to zero. It says if the prime minister, chief ministers, or ministers are arrested and detained continuously for 30 days on charges attracting a jail term of five years or more, the president, governors, and LGs can remove them, regardless of whether or not they are convicted. In case the order doesn't go through on time, they will automatically cease to remain in their position. The president or governor will remove them on the advice of the prime minister or the chief minister. Now, it's being hailed by some admirers as echoing PM Modi's 'Naa Khaunga Naa Khane dunga' resolve – but there are serious dangers ahead. Watch the full video to know more. ABRSM holds conference on five years of NEP at SVU

Tirupati: A national conference on 'NEP 2020 @ 5 Years: Policy, Practice, and Progress' was held at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati on Wednesday under the joint auspices of Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Maha Sangh (ABRSM) and Voice of Tirupati Academicians. Addressing the gathering, ABRSM State President Prof YV Rami Reddy said the organisation aims to conduct 500 such conferences across Indian universities to collate suggestions and submit them to the Central Government. SV University Vice Chancellor Prof Ch Appa Rao highlighted that the National Education Policy (NEP) has been implemented 'from KG to PG' across most states in the past five years. Former V-C of University of Hyderabad Prof Podili Appa Rao noted that India's education system had seen no major changes for 37 years until the introduction of NEP 2020 by the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aligning with global advancements in education, science, and technology. ABRSM National Joint Organising Secretary Gunta Laxman stressed that the policy empowers Indian students to be knowledge creators rather than mere knowledge followers. He urged the Centre and states to raise education spending to 6 percent of GDP to strengthen infrastructure for the nation's 26 crore school students. The event was attended by ABRSM State Vice President Prof C Vani, Voice of Tirupati Academicians Convener Prof M Rajasekhar, Dr G Rajasekhar and others.
