Edinburgh singer Shirley Manson 'doesn't care' if she's cancelled after 'great career'
Edinburgh singer Shirley Manson has said she 'doesn't care' if she gets cancelled.
The 58-year-old artist, who is never shy with her opinions, said she'd 'rather be true to who she is'. This comes after her eighth album Let All That We Imagine Be The Light was released on Friday, May 30.
Manson, who lives in LA with her husband, said it was 'heavenly to get away from the madness' as she came to London amid the release of her album.
She told NME magazine: "If you cancel me, you cancel me. I've had a f***ing great career. I really don't f***ing care.
"If you cancel us, I'll feel guilty that I've messed s**t up for my band, but I'd much rather be true to who I am as a human being, how I was raised by a family I'm very proud of."

Speaking on her latest album, and the motivations behind it, she said: "I've never really written about love very much. I always think it's been written about by people a thousand more talented than me.
"I'm just not a romantic person, really. After my mum died and then Veela [Manson's dog], I realised I had to touch love somewhere, somehow.

"I've got an amazing marriage and I love my husband so much, but I also realised that in order to move on through a different passage in my life I had to reach out to find all the different types of love: the world, nature, the ocean, friends, my bandmates, my family.
"I want to ignite that love. Like a torch when the world feels dark, I need to find all the hands that I can hold. My go-to is usually indignance, so I realised I had to come at things from a different perspective this time around or I would drown in my own negativity."

An Oasis fan has told how she felt like she had experienced a "death in the family" after her ticket to see the Britpop brothers at Murrayfield turned out to be bogus. Charisse Quinn, from East Ayrshire, had got herself fully kitted out for the gig and splurged on a £250 ticket from resale site Viagogo for the last night of the Edinburgh stint of the Live '25 tour on Tuesday, August 12. But instead of singing her heart out all night, the 42-year-old was left crying her eyes out, when the ticket she purchased failed to load outside the stadium. After being contacted by Edinburgh Live, Viagogo bosses apologised to Charisse and confirmed she received a refund and was given the opportunity to see Oasis another night. Speaking to Edinburgh Live she said: "I'd finished night shift on the Tuesday morning and came home for a couple hours sleep. "My partner had bought the ticket on Friday and all day on Tuesday we were waiting for them to send the actual ticket, but they said that it was going to be guaranteed. Regardless, but nothing came of it. "My partner was working and he couldn't concentrate at his work because he was too busy trying to get in touch with Viagogo." When arriving the ticket didn't load and Charisse was unable to get into the gig. She said: "I'm still heartbroken about it. I went back to work last night and I'm a mental health nurse so all my patients were asking me how it was and it's just, I know this sounds really dramatic right, but it actually feels like a death in the family. "Because I was that excited for it, especially since it was a last minute ticket purchase and then this happened. "The fact that I spent money on my whole outfit as well as getting there. A Viagogo spokesperson said: "Viagogo is a safe, secure and regulated marketplace. We are aware of an isolated issue affecting a customer who was unable to access their tickets for the Oasis event on 12 August 2025, despite receiving a ticket transfer confirmation from a fan seller. "This incident fell short of Viagogo's standards and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this caused. The customer has received a refund and given the opportunity to see Oasis another night. "There is no financial incentive for sellers to list tickets on our marketplace that they cannot deliver, since they are not paid until after the buyer successfully gets into the event. Sellers in breach of our terms and conditions will face consequences including fines and removal from the platform."

More info A loved-up couple have tied the knot in a 'history making' performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Linus Karp and Joseph Martin were married on Saturday in front of a sold-out audience at The Pleasance Grand on Saturday. The couple, known for hit shows such as Gwyneth Goes Skiing, are the first pair to marry on stage with a ticketed audience in the Fringe's 78-year history. At the ceremony, Joseph entered to Charli XCX's Von Dutch - while Linus was carried on stage to the tune of Jellicle Cats, from the musical Cats. The service was conducted by Edinburgh Council's Jackie Blackburn, who pronounced the couple husband and husband to a 'momentous' standing ovation. After the ceremony, Linus said: "This day was so fergalicious. Being in a room so full of love alongside the love of my life is a moment that will live with me forever. "We cannot wait for our incredible officiant Jackie Blackburn's debut comedy hour at next year's Fringe - she was an instant icon." Joseph added: "The nerves kicked in when we went to get dressed with our incredible designer Cosimo Damiano - then it felt real! But once we were in our outfits and backstage, it felt like the most natural thing for us to be doing. "Walking down the aisle to Charli XCX's 'Von Dutch' with bodyguards and spark machines wasn't necessarily how I saw my wedding going, but I don't think it gets any more iconic. I couldn't be happier to be Mr Ljunggren." The couple are also starring in The Fit Prince, which is on at the Pleasance Courtyard. Edinburgh heckler's bizarre rant at 'middle-class YouTube dancer' during street performance

More info The moment an Edinburgh street performer was heckled was caught in a clip, as a man claimed she was 'from a middle-class family'. The strange incident was shared online by dancer Lucia Leeson, where a man claimed she was a 'street dancer who has never worked on the street'. He also shouted: "It doesn't look as good off the camera." Lucia shared the incident on TikTok, which shows the individual kneeling behind her as she attempts to perform in The Grassmarket. In the bizarre clip, the man shouts: "Look everybody, a street dancer who never worked on the street is from a middle-class family. "Well done. Well done you. It doesn't look as good off the camera unfortunately, I know what you're used to - performing for YouTube."
