Stuttering Gujarat Titans Run Into Mighty Mumbai Indians In IPL Eliminator
Last Updated:
In the IPL 2025 Eliminator, five-time champions Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Titans in Mullanpur today.
Considered one of the title favourites but currently battling a loss of momentum, Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans will face the formidable Mumbai Indians in a high-stakes IPL Eliminator on Friday.

Although it's a knockout game, both teams are experienced at this stage, with Mumbai Indians being five-time champions. The Titans have reached the play-offs three times in the last four seasons, including winning the trophy in their debut year in 2022.
Both Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya have a point to prove. Gill, recently appointed as India's Test captain, would significantly enhance his leadership credentials if the Titans secure the title. Hardik, who regained fans' support after being booed last year, could cement his legacy with an IPL trophy.
However, both leaders need to address current issues. The Titans have lost momentum, conceding 465 runs in their last two defeats. They need to improve their bowling, with Mohammed Siraj needing to provide early breakthroughs. Arshad Khan's struggles with the new ball have increased pressure on Prasidh Krishna, the Titans' key bowler with 23 wickets this season. The ineffectiveness of spin all-rounder Rashid Khan has compounded their bowling woes.

On the batting front, the top three – Sai Sudharsan, Gill, and Jos Buttler – have been instrumental in their journey to the play-offs. However, Buttler's absence due to national duty is significant. Kusal Mendis has been brought in as his replacement, but it remains to be seen if he can inspire the same level of confidence. The middle order, comprising Shahrukh Khan and Sherfane Rutherford, lacks reliability, making the Titans vulnerable against Mumbai Indians.
Like the Titans, Mumbai Indians have also been affected by the loss of foreign players. Ryan Rickelton, who performed well alongside Rohit Sharma, has returned for national duty, as has English batter Will Jacks. Jonny Bairstow is one of Mumbai's replacements, along with Richard Gleeson and Charith Asalanka. Bairstow is expected to open with Rohit Sharma.
Tilak Varma's quiet run is another concern for Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav has been carrying the batting load with a record 640 runs this season. If he fails, Mumbai will face a real challenge. Batting first, Mumbai's scoring pace has been questioned, and Hardik needs to address this. However, their strong bowling attack remains a significant threat.
'Batting, we'll figure out the right template and the pace we want to bat at if we bat first. There are a couple of things we need to identify, but there's no panic," Hardik said after the loss to Punjab Kings in their final league game.

Watch: Did Shubman Gill Ignore Hardik Pandya's Handshake? Fans Livid
Last Updated: Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans suffered a 20-run defeat to Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Eliminator clash. Mumbai Indians have stormed into the second qualifier of IPL 2025 with an entertaining 20-run win over Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator clash held in Mullanpur on Friday night. Chasing 229, GT finished at 208/6 despite opener Sai Sudharsan's 49-ball 80 and Washington Sundar's blistering 24-ball 48. MI will now face Punjab Kings on Sunday for a place in the final. During the toss, an awkward moment between GT captain Shubman Gill and his MI counterpart Hardik Pandya went viral on social media. Several users shared the clip of the two with claims that Gill ignored Pandya's handshake after the latter won the coin toss. Here's the clip Shubman gill involved in ego war with Hardik Pandya 🤪 Hardik tried to shake his hands but Shubman didn't because of his fragile ego that too in front of the one who made his t20 career. — Crasher🤴🏾 (@lmao_crx3r) May 30, 2025 While it may have been a genuine mistake on Gill's end up users on social media have slated the India Test captain for his act Pandya's decision to bat first paid rich dividends as MI openers Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow led a blazing start with the pair adding 84 runs in 7.2 overs. Bairstow impressed in what was his first match of the season after being called up by the franchise as a replacement for South Africa's Ryan Rickelton who left home to start his preparations for the ICC World Test Championship final. The star of the show though was Rohit who peeled off his fourth fifty of the ongoing season. He struck an entertaining 50-ball 81 with the help of nine fours and four sixes. In reply, GT lost the wicket of Gill early with the opener managing 1 off 2. However, Sai Sudharsan continued his excellent run, peeling off yet another half-century and looked set for another hundred but for Richard Gleeson who had him bowled for 80. Sundar (48 off 24) and Sherfane Rutherford (24 off 15) kept GT's hopes alive but MI held on for a 20-run win. First Published:

‘Save Humanity, Don't Let RCB Win': Exploring The Bizarre Trend Of IPL 2025 On 'X'
Last Updated: 'Save Humanity': Cricket fans do not want Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to lift the IPL 2025 trophy. What could be the reason? Cricket rivalries and banters go hand in hand. Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL 2025 campaign has been nothing short of remarkable. The Men in Red who are yet to lift the shiny IPL trophy became the first franchise in the ongoing season to reach the finals of the celebrated cricket tournament. This also marked RCB's first entry to the big finals after a wait of nine long years. The exciting moment has brought a sense of relief to the camp of millions of loyal fans, as the heartache of staying winless despite three IPL final appearances (2009, 2011, 2016) has stung them since the league's inception. But, there is a section on social media that doesn't want the Bengaluru-based franchise to win the coveted cup. But why? Curious? So were we. Thankfully for us, a user on 'X', seemingly baffled by the 'save humanity" posts targeted directly at the RCB team, asked the question out in the open. 'What's this 'Save humanity, don't let RCB win' stuff? Lol. Why is there so much obsession with a team that hasn't won a trophy?" a user who goes by the handle @Kourageous7 asked. Another IPL fan, baffled by the unusual trend, asked the community what was the harm if a winless franchise finally won. Save humanity? From what? A team winning their first IPL after 17 years of pain & heartbreaks? This is insane level of hatred. — . (@ABDszn17) May 30, 2025 Mitchell Santner, it's up to you now to save humanity — Sweet (@Lommy0Tatham) May 30, 2025 God is on the way to Save Humanity @ImRo45 🧎♂️ — Royce (@Exhausted_45) May 30, 2025 #9yearsofSRHGlory It's ur responsibility to save the humanity this year #pbks #mi #gt — srh 🧡 (@srh_addict) May 28, 2025 'Toxic Fan Base' One stand-out response to questions raised by folks online as to why humanity would be intact if RCB did not win was the presence of a few 'toxic" fans that back the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The fans of opponent teams believed that RCB fans engaged in online trolling and spreading negativity. Digvesh Rathi, the star spinner of Lucknow Super Giants, was trolled mercilessly on Instagram recently when he attempted to run RCB's Jitesh Sharma out at the non-striker's end. 'bcz of the abusive n toxic nature of the fandom, (sic)" wrote one 'X' commenter in response. 'Agree but their fanbse is turnoff, I hope Kohli gets it still." 'It's less about the team and more about the fans who are clowns." One simply wrote: 'Noise Pollution." While others backed RCB. 'It's the only missing box for RCB and hence the rivals are fearing if they win the coveted first trophy it's gonna be endgame for the blues and yellows of the IPL world," an IPL follower wrote. 'Hating RCB fan base must be the funniest thing. They are the most loyal fan base in the league with their loyalty on par with the elite European football club fanbases." When the rivalries and banters are dialled up to the highest level, it's also worth remembering that Royal Challengers Bangalore have raced to the finals of IPL 2025, thanks to a dominating win against the solid Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings side in the Qualifier 1. Played on May 29 at Mullanpur on Thursday, the Qualifier 1 between PBKS and RCB became a one-sided affair after Punjab was asked to bat first and the side crumbled to a paltry 101. Suyash Sharma and Josh Hazlewood registered three-fers, before Phil Salt's half-century took Bengaluru over the finish line with exactly 10 overs to spare. Fortunately for Punjab, being the table toppers has given them another shot at claiming the trophy when they meet Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 scheduled for Sunday, June 1. Mumbai Indians emerged victorious on Friday night against the Gujarat Titans in a thrilling Eliminator when they managed to defend the target of 229 runs. Shubman Gill's spirited GT fell short of 20 runs in the end. Virat Kohli All eyes will now be glued on Virat Kohli on June 3 his side takes on the winners of Qualifier 2 (PBKS Vs MI). Kohli, who has been the face of the franchise since the league kickstarted, has had a tremendous IPL 2025. He gave RCB his youth, his prime, his everything and asked for nothing but a dream. Tonight, that dream is just one match away. Let it come home to him. — Out Of Context Cricket (@GemsOfCricket) May 29, 2025 The 36-year-old superstar has accumulated 614 runs at an impressive average of 55.82. Unplayable yorker, inevitable genius: How Jasprit Bumrah sank the Gujarat Titans
Wasn't that yorker special? Let's get to that a little excellence be made to look effortless? Can mastery feel routine? Ask an artist, a writer, or an athlete. They'll tell you how rare it is to create something that satisfies both the soul and the world. Greatness is usually a grind; brilliance, a fleeting then, there are Phelps slicing through water like a force of nature. Usain Bolt turning races into parades. Simone Biles rewriting the laws of gravity. Mondo Duplantis soaring beyond limits. These are athletes who made perfection look like second nature. Jasprit Bumrah belongs in that league. With every spell, every searing yorker, he makes you wonder if it's all inevitable. Excellence, in his hands, feels like an everyday now, we've seen countless spells where Jasprit Bumrah has painted masterpieces across the 22 yards: the searing yorkers, the deceptive slower balls, the inswingers that crash into the stumps, the outswingers that kiss the edge and fly to the slip MEETS GENIUSFriday's IPL 2025 Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans was yet another blessed evening for cricket lovers. It was another chance to witness a master at his Indians were in their element on the big stage. In a tactical masterstroke, the five-time champions chose to bat first in Mullanpur - a day after Punjab Kings were skittled for 101 at the same Hardik Pandya said at the toss that the pitch at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium wasn't quite the same as the one where Royal Challengers Bengaluru's pacers ran riot the day before. He was confident it would play better - and MI made the most of the batting-friendly by Rohit Sharma's 50-ball 81, a brutal cameo from Jonny Bairstow, and useful contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik himself, Mumbai piled on a daunting Titans, ever the scrappy underdogs, weren't ready to roll over even after losing captain Shubman Gill for just Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, batting at No. 4, flipped the script with a stunning 84-run stand off just 44 the end of the 13th over, Gujarat were cruising at 148 for calm as ever, was accumulating at pace without fuss; Washington, meanwhile, showed why he's so highly rated in Indian cricket circles, launching crisply timed big hits. Gujarat had plundered 63 runs between overs 9 and 13, and hope was very much YORKERadvertisementThe game was slipping away from Mumbai when Hardik turned to his Mr the inevitable runs were flowing until Bumrah returned for his second spell. Then, they slowed to a trickle.1, 1, 1... and fourth delivery of the over was pure magic. From over the wicket, Bumrah unleashed a searing yorker aimed at Washington Sundar's boots. The left-hander got into a tangle trying to dig it out - his legs wide apart, bat flailing. But the ball, travelling at over 140 kph, sliced through the gap and shattered the collapsed in a heap: ugly, awkward, moments of brillianceWere these two the defining moments of the #Eliminator?Scorecard | #GTvMI | #TheLastMile | @mipaltan IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 30, 2025"Even if he had held position there, it would have crushed his toe. It's a pure survival instinct. You try to score runs and then you enter survival mode. He just fell over there. It was an absolute peach of a delivery. This was the game-changing moment," former India batter Robin Uthappa said, reflecting on how Sundar forgot he was in the middle of a match and just wanted to get out of harm's way for a fraction of a blame Sundar, right? The smiling assassin let out a rare expression of emotion, as if he was telling Sundar: enough fun for one took just one delivery to drain the momentum from Gujarat's chase. You could almost feel the shiver run through their Sudharsan fell soon after, walking back for a well-crafted 80 - and with him went Gujarat's Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia swung for the fences, but the equation was slipping away - and they still had one more Bumrah over to contend the magician returned, he sealed the deal with clinical precision - conceding just nine runs in the 17th over, with Gujarat needing 45 off the final 18 AB de Villiers summed up what millions were thinking, recalling a simple lesson he'd passed on to his son: when Bumrah's around, never count his team out."This guy does it so often. I actually told my son before Bumrah bowled his last two overs: 'The game isn't over until he's done. Watch what happens once he's finished his spell. That's when you'll know the result.'"advertisementBefore that over, Gujarat's win probability stood at 42 percent. By the end of it - after just four runs and another shattered set of stumps - it had dropped by nearly it's time for the win predictors to evolve. When Bumrah's holding the ball, forget the math - it's destiny that takes BUMRAH CHEAT CODEMumbai Indians have the luxury of a cheat Hardik Pandya summed it up simply: deciding when to bowl Bumrah isn't the game seems to be slipping, he knows it's time to hand him the ball. It's the same mantra former captain Rohit Sharma followed for years."It's a luxury. It's like Mumbai housing prices."Captain Hardik Pandya heaps praise on Jasprit Bumrah's match-winning abilities after a thrilling win #TATAIPL | #GTvMI | #Eliminator | #TheLastMile | @mipaltan | @hardikpandya7 | @Jaspritbumrah93 IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 30, 2025There's no escaping his first match of IPL 2025 - returning from a long injury lay-off - Bumrah conceded 29 runs in his four overs against RCB, who racked up 229. Since then, barring two outings, he hasn't given away more than 30 in a single match. In 11 games, he has 18 wickets at an economy rate of 6.36 - in a season dominated by teams avoid taking risks against him - unless absolutely necessary. These days, even his full tosses are treated with REPUTATION, RHYTHMSo what makes him special? Here's an excellent insight from legendary West Indies quick Ian Bishop."Jasprit is a great communicator. He thinks deeply about the game. That's the foundation. Yes, he has pace - but more importantly, he's developed variations. And he knows better than most when to use them," Bishop told last year."He'll tell you himself: it's not every day he goes stump-hunting. Some days it's the yorker, some days it's the wide yorker. Other times, it's the slower ball into the pitch or the sharp bouncer.""He's got that unique action and with that, the ball gets on to you quicker than expected. That's partly why even his full tosses are hard to put away."And then, of course, there's reputation. When I bowled with Curtly Ambrose, you'd see Matthew Hayden play him with respect - and then come after me. That's the kind of respect Bumrah has earned."Flat tracks. Green tops. Dusty subcontinent wickets. Red ball. White ball. T20s. ODIs. Tests. Bumrah's brilliance doesn't waver. It adapts. It you face Bumrah, you're not really playing a 20-over game. You've only got 16 to work with. Because four of those, the most crucial four , belong to him. And more often than not, he'll come for you. And get Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
