THE TOXIC AVENGER Is Officially Unrated for "Mutant Nudity, Hilarious Harm, P*ss Play" and It's Everything You'd Hope For — GeekTyrant

The Toxic Avenger is officially being released as an Unrated film. If you were wondering what kind of beautiful chaos director Macon Blair was cooking up with his take on the Troma classic, well, we just got our answer.
After debuting a wild trailer in October 2023 and then ghosting the release radar, fans were left in limbo. A report later claimed the film had been deemed 'unreleasable' and 'not safe enough to market,' which only cranked up the curiosity.
Now we know why: the film is jam-packed with what Blair calls 'fun, rowdy' insanity, and it's charging into theaters without an MPAA rating to hold it back.
Why unrated? Try a mix of 'ultra violence, toxic content, mutant nudity, splatter, monstercore,' and yes, even 'p*ss play.' This is exactly what you'd want from a Toxic Avenger movie. You can also expect 'Splatter Laughter', 'Punk Rock Bandits', 'Mops'. 'Toxic Sludge Exposure', 'Hilarious Harm', and Gnarly Theater Fun.'
In a statement, Blair said: 'I'm beyond grateful to the team behind The Toxic Avenger who were so supportive and steady-handed as we searched for the perfect distribution partner for our film.
'It's so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters, it's a fun rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd. Mutant hero smashes bad guys with a mop: perfect entertainment for the whole family!
'Our goal was always to preserve the heart and spirit of the original Toxie (which was seared into my brain at a very young age) and try to make something that Troma fans would dig and at the same time do something with the character that feels fresh.
'Lloyd and Michael at Troma have been a blast to work with, absolutely everyone at Legendary are stars, and I can't wait to start working with the champs at Cinverse to bring this version of Toxie to fans new and old.'
Cineverse, who's backing the release alongside Bloody Disgusting, sees something more beneath the wicked insanity. Cineverse chairman and CEO Chris McGurk added:
' The Toxic Avenger isn't just a great film; it's an important one. Peter Dinklage's transformative performance and Macon Blair's fearless direction deliver a story that speaks to the anxieties of our time with outrageous humor and unflinching creativity.
'This is the kind of movie that major studios are averse to release because it dares to push boundaries, but Cineverse is rooted in championing bold, uncompromising storytelling. We believe audiences are ready – and eager – for films like this to take center stage.'
The movie follows Winston Gooze, a weary janitor who gets the worst possible work-related injury—falling into toxic waste. That classic origin story is intact, but this version puts a new spotlight on corporate greed, environmental rot, and personal redemption, all with the same gleeful grotesquery you'd expect from a Toxie movie.
The original 1984 Toxic Avenger , a DIY gore-filled masterpiece from Troma Entertainment, spawned sequels, comics, and even a kid-friendly animated series with The Toxic Crusaders . Blair's film seems keen on honoring that unhinged spirit while injecting it with some modern madness.
The cast also includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.
Whether you're a die-hard Troma fan or just curious about a film that features both Dinklage and 'mutant nudity,' this is one to keep an eye on. No release date has been locked just yet, but when it hits theaters, expect mops, muck, and mayhem, and probably a few audience members questioning their life choices.

Animal Friends Release Date Delayed for Ryan Reynolds & Jason Momoa Movie

The release date for the live-action hybrid road trip adventure Animal Friends, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa, has been delayed for several months. A Legendary, Maximum Effort, and Prime Focus Studios production, it was originally slated to come out through Sony Pictures but later shifted to Warner Bros. as part of the deal the company made with Legendary. Animal Friends will now release in US theaters on May 1, 2026, nearly seven months after its previously announced premiere date, October 10, 2025. Besides Reynolds and Momoa, the cast of Animal Friends includes Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber. Peter Atencio directed the feature from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider. This is not the first time that Animal Friends has suffered a delay in its release. Sony Pictures initially set its release date for August 15, 2025. However, Warner Bros. then acquired the distribution rights for the movie and changed it to October 10. Animal Friends was described as an 'R-rated road trip adventure' when it was announced in April 2023. Production reportedly began in June 2023 and concluded in April 2024. Notably, Maximum Effort is a production company that Reynolds co-founded. Some of the projects they have produced are Deadpool 2 (2018), Free Guy (2021), Shotgun Wedding (2022), and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Meanwhile, filmmaker and producer Namit Malhotra founded Prime Focus Media. Their upcoming projects include Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, and The Angry Birds Movie 3. DNEG, noted for their work on Nimona (2023) and Dune: Part Two (2024), is handling the animation and visual effects on Animal Friends. Peter Atencio previously directed action comedy movies Keanu (2016) and The Machine (2023). Burrows and Mider were the creators of the GQ original animated series Gentlemen Lobsters. They were also the co-writers of the 2018 teen comedy The Package. Originally reported by Tamal Kundu on SuperHeroHype. SXSW London accused of ‘artwashing' for hosting unannounced panels with Tony Blair and David Cameron

Famed as the world's leading festival of creativity, SXSW has made its European debut this month with an edition landing in London for the first time. However, controversy quickly reared its head... Former UK prime ministers Tony Blair and David Cameron were among the unannounced speakers at the inaugural edition of SXSW London, which runs until 7 June and spans film, gaming, panel discussion and music – including musical acts Erykah Badu, Nile Rodgers and Idris Elba. Screenshots were leaked of the un-shared programme that included Cameron talking on a panel called Healthcare Revolution, and Blair on one called Government and AI, which also featured Technology Secretary and Labour Friends of Israel member Peter Kyle. Tony Blair spoke at the conference's opening day, saying that Britain needs to fully embrace artificial intelligence in public services and that we 'could have AI tutors' along with 'AI nurses, AI doctors'. Despite lingering concerns over data privacy and job displacement, Blair stated that the UK risks being left behind in what he described as the greatest transformation since the 19th-century Industrial Revolution. His comments were echoed by Peter Kyle, who argued that the UK risked becoming 'obsolete' if it failed to act boldly. Blair did stress that AI was neither inherently good or bad, but a powerful tool requiring responsible use. Both Blair and Kyle spoke after a UK government trial found that generative AI could save civil servants an average of 26 minutes a day. The panel appearance, which was not announced to the public or artists, prompted many artists to cancel their planned performances at the festival. Sam Akpro, Rat Party, Saliah and LVRA were amongst the artists who pulled out, with the latter accusing the festival of 'artwashing', saying that 'whilst the music team were pulling together a diverse, 'cool' lineup, the conference team were booking speakers from multiple organisations deeply complicit in the current genocide of Palestinian people.' 'I implore artists to engage, rather than ignore, those things that affect us and strive to protect the most marginalised voices in the world,' LVRA added. 'I urge us as a community to think bigger, and better, than the scraps offered to us today.' Scottish artist Magnus Westwell said they're also joining the boycott "due to the corporation's unethical, misleading and secretive conference programming of war criminals, art-washing and practices that exploit marginalised artists." See some of the other reactions below. To address the criticisms, a spokesperson for SXSW London sent the following: "As one of the world's largest festivals across tech, music and the creative industries, SXSW London respects everyone's views and positions and aims to create an open, diverse space for debate and discussion.' The statement continued: 'Across the breadth of the festival, with over 800 speakers, we have a broad range of global leaders spanning the technology and cultural industries, their inclusion doesn't represent an endorsement of any particular position or viewpoint." This is not the first time that artists have boycotted SXSW. More than 100 artists and speakers pulled out of last year's edition of the brand's flagship Austin event in Texas after it partnered with the US Army and defense contractor RTX Corporation. The huge wave of 2024 SXSW boycotts due to the festival's ties to defense groups that supply Israeli weapons in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war included artists like Kneecap, Rachel Chinouriri, Lambrini Girls and Scowl. Following the backlash, both partnerships were discontinued for 2025 - proving artist Saliah right: boycotts work.
