38,804 MSMES digitalised with RM90mil Madani grant in 2024
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that 2,838 of the recipients were clinics and pharmacies, representing approximately 19 percent of such premises in Malaysia, based on data from the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).
"This achievement demonstrates GDPM's effectiveness in helping MSMEs digitalise their services. This year, we are focusing on the health sector, targetting at least 50 percent participation of private clinics and pharmacies," she said at the GDPM Fest 2025 press conference here today.
She added that in 2024, the government channelled RM90 million to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) through telecommunications service providers, with nearly the entire amount fully utilised.
This year, Teo said the Finance Ministry has approved an additional RM50 million, with RM30 million channelled to MCMC through telecommunications companies to further support and strengthen MSMEs.
"This reflects the government's continued commitment to implementing digitalisation initiatives, which form a core pillar of the 13th Malaysia Plan," she said.
Regarding the GDPM Fest 2025 organised by MCMC today, Teo said the event demonstrates the government's determination to ensure MSMEs, particularly in the health sector, are not left behind in the wave of technological advancement.
She said the initiative is a concrete step towards building a more efficient, inclusive and future-ready healthcare ecosystem.
The programme will also be held in Kuantan, Pahang, and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, with the support of strategic partners including the Ministry of Finance, Bank Simpanan Nasional, the MMA, Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, telco providers such as Maxis, Digi and Telekom Malaysia, as well as digital solutions providers.
"We hope more private clinics and pharmacies will adopt solutions through this grant to drive digital transformation," she said.

RM3.59 billion aid for 204,000 MSMEs and cooperatives in H1 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 204,429 micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs and cooperatives nationwide received RM3.59 billion in financing assistance in the first half of 2025. Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick shared the figures during a gathering with ministry staff and agencies. He added that 28,687 new entrepreneurs and cooperatives were established through targeted support programmes in the same period. 'Additionally, 540 small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs have been mentored to expand their businesses globally,' Ewon said. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan was also present at the event. Ewon emphasised the need for the ministry to stay focused and improve service efficiency under the National Entrepreneurship Policy 2030 (DKN2030). The policy aims to position Malaysia as a leading entrepreneurial nation. In 2024, MSMEs grew by 5.8 per cent, contributing RM652.4 billion to the national economy. They also accounted for 14.3 per cent of Malaysia's total exports. MSMEs employed 8.1 million workers, making up 48.7 per cent of the country's workforce. Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), KUSKOP will prioritise scaling up MSMEs to enhance competitiveness in domestic and global markets. The ministry will also strengthen the third sector by involving social enterprises, inclusive businesses, and cooperatives. 2,000 unauthorised ads on health products pulled down since Jan 1
MCMC is working closely with the health authorities to identify fake medicines and unauthorised health service advertisements. PETALING JAYA : A total of 2,033 unauthorised online advertisements on health products and services have been pulled down during the first seven months of this year. Deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission did this after receiving 2,283 complaints from the health ministry, Bernama reported. 'In 2022, MCMC received eight complaints and removed all related ads. In 2023, 439 complaints were received and 390 ads were removed. 'Last year, MCMC received 3,312 complaints and took down 1,643 unauthorised online ads,' she said after officiating the Johor-level Madani MSME Digital Grant Festival 2025 in Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru, today. Teo said her ministry is working closely with the health authorities to identify false and unauthorised medicine or health service advertisements. 'When we receive a complaint from the ministry, MCMC will notify social media platform providers to take the advertisement down if it is unauthorised. 'If the complaint comes from the public, for example on fake medicines, we will refer it to the health ministry for verification first before further action is taken,' she said.

Malaysia internet coverage hits 98.82% with 5G expansion plans
KUALA LUMPUR: Internet and communication coverage in populated areas across Malaysia has reached 98.82 per cent as of July 31, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. For 5G coverage, he said Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has completed the construction of 7,489 transmitter sites, collectively providing 82.4 per cent coverage in populated areas. 'The number of 5G subscriptions has exceeded 28 million users, and the mobile 5G broadband penetration rate per 100 people stands at 82.7 per cent,' he said in reply to Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang) at Dewan Rakyat today. Dr Zulkafperi had wanted to know the latest progress and details on the government's 5G rollout programme, as well as the strategies to further expand coverage into rural areas such as Sungai Burong, Sekinchan, and Permatang, with particular focus on those within the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency. Fahmi said that in Tanjong Karang, internet and communication coverage in populated areas stands at 99.75 per cent, while the Sungai Besar constituency has recorded a coverage rate of 99.99 per cent. Additionally, he noted that the second 5G network by U Mobile began operating on July 14, with 1,232 sites upgraded to support 5G coverage. On the JENDELA 1 initiative, Fahmi said it is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025, while plans for JENDELA 2 are currently being reviewed and will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2025 by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). According to Fahmi, the planning process requires assessment of suitable service delivery methods that are fit-for-purpose, as well as the capability of the Universal Service Provision (USP) Fund to finance the project's capital and operational expenditures. 'The types of service delivery solutions currently under consideration are expected to include the construction of new towers and the provision of Internet services via satellite technology,' he explained. Meanwhile, Fahmi said MCMC has undertaken various efforts, including the implementation of the Safe Internet Campaign to raise public awareness, including among schoolchildren, about the dangers of online harm. He added that the ministry is also working on amending existing laws to promote more responsible Internet use and to ensure that crimes such as scams and cyberbullying can be effectively addressed. - Bernama
