PGA Championship Final Round live updates: Scottie Scheffler, after nearly blowing lead, rallies for dominant win
It was just like he planned, right?
Scottie Scheffler, after nearly blowing a five-shot lead at Quail Hollow Club on Sunday afternoon in North Carolina, still rallied to pick up a commanding win at the second major championship of the year. Scheffler got to 11-under for the week and ended up taking home a five-shot win over the field.
That earned Scheffler his first ever PGA Championship win and the iconic Wanamaker Trophy. It marks his third career major championship win, and his first outside of Augusta National. Scheffler will also take home a $3.42 million check — which is part of a tournament record $19 million purse this week.
Scheffler surged ahead to a three-shot lead with his 6-under 65 on Saturday, though he made three bogeys on his front nine and saw a five-shot lead disappear completely while Jon Rahm surged ahead of him. Rahm, however, lost all of the momentum he had built up. He started missing putts and ended up finishing 5-over in his final three holes to drop well back while Scheffler turned it on behind him. Scheffler made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 to reclaim his massive lead as if nothing had happened.
From there, Scheffler simply cruised to the finish to grab his win. The win marked the 15th career PGA Tour victory for the top-ranked golfer in the world, and his second this month alone.
Bryson DeChambeau, Harris English and Davis Riley finished in a tie for second at 6-under on the week. Taylor Pendrith, J.T. Poston and Jhonattan Vegas — who held the lead at the midway point — finished in a tie for fifth.

That'll do it from Quail Hollow. Up next we have the U.S. Open, which will take place at Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh in June.

With his six-shot lead in hand, Scottie Scheffler is set to become the first player since Seve Ballesteros in '83 to win his first three majors by at least three strokes.
J.T. Poston bogeyed up ahead, which pushed Scottie Scheffler's lead to SIX now with just two holes to go.
Jon Rahm just made a double at the 18th, too. He finished 5-over in his final three holes in what was a brutal ending for the man who held a share of the lead earlier in the day.
Jon Rahm backed his bogey up with a double after he landed his tee shot in the water at the par-3 17th. Rahm is out of it now, and Scheffler's lead is back to five.
Scottie Scheffler is up by four shots again, just like he planned. We're just about done here.

Jon Rahm is just about done now. He bogeyed the 16th after missing yet another putt, which pushed him back to 8-under for the week.
Scottie Scheffler, who nearly blew a five-shot lead at one point, is now suddenly back up by three again.

Jon Rahm missed another good look at the 15th, and had to settle with par. He's leaving plenty of chances out there, and still trails Scheffler by a stroke.
If he's going to make a move, it's got to be soon.
Jon Rahm had a shot to tie Scheffler in the lead again at the 14th, but he pushed his birdie putt right of the cup badly.
He's still at 9-under with four holes to go.

Didn't think we'd need this, but ... if there is a tie, there would be a three-hole aggregate playoff, played at Nos. 16, 17 and 18.
If tied after that, rinse and repeat.
And just like that, Jon Rahm has grabbed a share of the lead. He sank a deep birdie putt at the 11th to get to 9-under.
Rahm has all of the momentum behind him now, too, after carding his third birdie in a four-hole stretch. Scottie Scheffler appears to be in trouble.
