Slobodan Rubezic makes Aberdeen FC transfer decision as lifts lid on awe-inspiring Sir Alex Ferguson meeting
The Serbian is currently back in his homeland on loan and revealed his future plans
Slobodan Rubezic has confirmed he will be returning to Aberdeen this summer.
The defender is currently back on loan at his former club, Novi Pazar, but will head back to Jimmy Thelin 's squad for pre-season.
There have been claims in Serbia that Novi Pazar have a purchase option but that is not the case and the Montenegrin international will come back to the Dons.
Rubezic, when asked about his future, confirmed: 'I'm returning to Aberdeen. I'm not burdened with thinking about the summer transfer window and continuing my career.'
Rubezic confirmed he made the switch to Novi Pazar in the short-term for personal reasons in February.
He explained: 'No, the transfer window has already passed, so for some personal reasons I decided to go on loan and to do it at home.
'There is nothing strange. Novi Pazar is my second home. I have never felt so good anywhere in my career as I do here.
'I've been welcomed in Pazar as if I was born there. When I'm happy and playing well, I feel better. That's why I separate Novi Pazar from all the other clubs.
'The people and the city are special, which is why I always like to come back to Novi Pazar.'
The big defender has helped Novi Pazar into the play-offs and wants to lead them back into Europe before he packs his back for a return to the Granite City.
Rubezic is hoping it will be a European double with Aberdeen joining them in European competition.
He is backing Thelin's side to finish third in the Premiership and to go on and lift the Scottish Cup, with the final against Celtic.
He claimed: 'I am regularly interested (in Aberdeen) and watch when I have the opportunity.
'I hope to fulfill all the goals, I know that they were the highest at the beginning of the season.
"They are currently in a place that leads to Europe, I believe that in the end they will manage to climb to third place.
'I will support them with all my heart and hope they will win the cup in the final with Celtic.
'I regularly hear from Slovenian Ester Sokler and captain Graeme Shinnie.'
Aberdeen head to Rangers this Sunday looking for a big win. Rubezic was part of Barry Robson's side who went there and won 3-1 last season. The centre half reckons that has been his Aberdeen highlight so far.
The 25-year-old insisted: 'That was the victory over Rangers at Ibrox Park. What an atmosphere it was. I was living my dream.
'I remember watching the match between Rangers and Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League qualifiers as a child. Even then, I imagined myself playing and winning at that stadium.'
Another big result on the other side of Glasgow this season, allowed Rubezic the chance to meet Sir Alex Ferguson, after the 2-2 draw at Celtic back in October.
Rubezic, speaking to Zurnal.rs recalled: 'I was most proud of my performance and that of the team at the aforementioned match against Celtic.
'After the game with Celtic at Celtic Park (2-2), I had the honour of meeting the great (Sir Alex) Ferguson.
'Before that match, we had a streak in which no one could beat us. That game also caught Ferguson's attention.
'When I happen to meet such a legend of European and world football, I will remember something like that for the rest of my life.'

Chelsea 'hesitate' over signing £68m striker ahead of Liverpool
Chelsea are 'hesitating' over beating Liverpool to the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to reports in Germany. Chelsea are looking to squad ahead of the Club World Cup and the £30 million deal to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town was completed this week. Chelsea are also in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Jamie Gittens, who has agreed a seven-year contract with the Premier League side. Ekitike, meanwhile, has attracted interest following his impressive season with Eintracht Frankfurt in which he finished the campaign with 22 goals in all competitions. According to BILD, Chelsea remain in the running to sign Ekitike before the transfer deadline at 7pm next Tuesday, but the club still have reservations over moving forward with a deal. It's claimed that the key reason is Chelsea's valuation of Ekitike – Eintracht Frankfurt value the 22-year-old at €100m (£84.3m) but Chelsea are refusing to go beyond €80m (£67.4m). BILD also report that Liverpool are also interested in Ekitike but their main focus is to reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz. Last week, reports in Germany claimed that Liverpool had held initial talks over a move for Ekitike. Speaking on the final day of the Bundesliga season, Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting director, Markus Krosche, refused to rule out the prospect of selling Ekitike this summer. 'He's one of the most interesting strikers on the European market. Hugo has to decide that,' Krosche told Sport 1. More Trending 'I'm glad we have him. If he decides otherwise, that's our motto – if a player develops faster than us, we let him go.' Earlier this week, Ekitike pulled out of France's Under-21s squad for their European Championship campaign due to a back injury. Chelsea, meanwhile, begin their Club World Cup campaign against Los Angeles FC on June 16. Maresca's side will then play Flamengo on June 20 before finishing their Group D campaign against ES Tunis on June 20. For more stories like this, check our sport page. England fans let Tuchel know their feelings as humiliation only just averted
ANDORRA 0-1 ENGLAND: Harry Kane scored the only goal in Catalunya as the European minnows were beaten by Thomas Tuchel's side to ensure total humiliation was averted Dan Burn missed his brother's wedding for this. There were 10,000 travelling fans who probably wished they'd accepted the invitation on his behalf. What is certain is that the honeymoon period for Thomas Tuchel is over before the cake's been cut. After the Three Lions were booed off at half-time for playing like pussycats against a team whose players earn a living in places like Luxembourg, the Dominican Republic and the part-time reaches of the Spanish League, it took a goal from Harry Kane to make sure total humiliation was averted. Tuchel is only the fifth England manager to win his first three competitive games. Mind you, none of Ron Greenwood, Glenn Hoddle, Sven Goran-Eriksson and Fabio Capello ever went beyond a quarter-final, so looks can be deceiving. It's a lame excuse that the manager picked an experimental team to face a nation that languishes 173rd in the FIFA rankings and have won just 14 of their 218 internationals. England were awful. In Germany they would have called it 'furchtbar' - and you don't have to be fluent in Tuchel's native lingo to get the gist. Supporters who had spent plenty of their hard-earned were right to let the coach and his players know exactly how they felt. The mood lifted once Kane had scored his 72nd international goal - and having already dispatched Albania and Latvia in the first two qualifiers, England will virtually secure qualification for next summer's finals by winning in Serbia in September. But Andorra must be wondering if they were naive in switching the game to the home of La Liga club Espanyol, In doing so, they surrendered the prospect of testing England on their humble 3,300-capacity stadium in the mountains, artificial turf and all. Coach Alvarez used to be Andorra's keeper. He conceded 208 goals in his 78 appearances - although he did get a standing ovation from England's fans after letting in six in his final game at Wembley. That didn't prevent him passing down his gloves to son, Iker. The 23-year-old earns his living with Villarreal's reserves and has fared better than his old man in that he's only picked the ball out of his net 50 times in 32 internationals. It took just two minutes for Jude Bellingham to test him from range. Noni Madueke forced Alvarez into an even better save nine minutes later. England should have scored in the 18th minute when Kane was unable to squeeze the ball home from close range after Morgan Rogers had crossed from the right. But the younger Alvarez was largely untroubled. He must have thought he'd done enough when England scored four minutes into the second half. Kane was sent through by Curtis Jones' perfectly-weighted pass only to fire his shot against Alvarez's legs as the keeper came rushing out. But the loose ball fell to Madueke and his driven cross was turned into the roof of the net at the far post by the stretching skipper. Tuchel's experimental team had Jones at right-back and Reece James on the opposite flank, while Jordan Henderson partnered Bellingham in central midfield. Madueke, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers operated behind Harry Kane. It just didn't work. Jones was England's best performer, moving naturally into central midfield. Madueke carried most of what little threat was on offer. Madueke almost set up a goal for substitute Anthony Gordon in injury-time. By then many of England's fans were already on La Rambla looking for a bar doing happy hour.

Ruben Amorim makes decision on selling injury stricken Man Utd star
Ruben Amorim's stance on selling Lisandro Martinez has been revealed after the Manchester United star was linked with a shock transfer to Napoli. Martinez has been a good defender for United since following Erik ten Hag from Ajax in 2022 in a deal worth upwards of £50million. The Red Devils have however struggled when the Argentine World Cup winner has been unavailable, which unfortunately for them is quite often. Over the past three seasons, the 27-year-old has missed a whopping 80 games for club and country because of injury and has not played since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in early February. Martinez underwent surgery to deal with the issue and won't return before the start of the 2025/26 campaign, with some reports suggesting he might not feature again until next year. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Given his fitness problems and the need to raise funds for his rebuild, it would be understandable if Amorim sold Martinez, with Napoli interested in his services. Antonio Conte is keen on the centre-back, as well as out of favour winger Alejandro Garnacho, following the highly successful signing of Scott McTominay from Old Trafford last summer. But Martinez is not keen on the move and neither is Amorim, with Sky Sports reporting that the head coach was 'hugely impressed by Martinez before the injury' and sees him as 'a key pillar of his defence' and the leadership group at the club. Additionally, the player's rehabilitation is going well and there is no tear in his meniscus, though he will not be rushed back into the playing squad until he has returned to peak physical condition. More Trending Not including Martinez, United have just four natural centre-backs in their squad, two of whom, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, are teenagers – far from ideal when they play with a back-three formation. Amorim is hoping to improve all areas of his squad as he looks to bounce back after United collapsed to 15th in the Premier League table and missed out on European qualification. Much of the transfer business so far has focused on United's attack, with Matheus Cunha already through the door. They are now pushing to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and are in pole position to win the transfer race for striker Viktor Gyokeres. For more stories like this, check our sport page.
