Drew McIntyre slams 'terrible' John Cena decision in X-rated verdict and makes WWE demand
Drew McIntyre says John Cena 's run as a wrestling villain was "terrible" and he didn't want to face a "b**** version" of the WWE legend.
Cena, 48, is set to retire from in-ring action at the end of this year. In March, after WWE's Elimination Chamber event, he viciously attacked the company's top good guy or 'babyface' Cody Rhodes. In doing so, and aligning himself with fellow WWE icon The Rock, he 'turned heel' - wrestling parlance for becoming a bad guy - for the first time in more than two decades.
Cena went on to capture a record-breaking 17th world title by defeating Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 in April. But The Rock's involvement in that rivalry and Cena's heel run didn't continue, with the storyline and positive reception to his new character fizzling out, before WWE performed a major U-turn and reversed the decision.
Earlier this month Cena reverted to being a fan favourite, before losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Rhodes in a critically acclaimed match at SummerSlam last Sunday night. And on SmackDown on Friday evening, he was challenged by Logan Paul to a match at Clash in Paris on August 31, before an ambush by McIntyre.
McIntyre, 40, real name Andrew Galloway, from Ayr, Scotland, spoke exclusively to Daily Mirror Sport about his own SummerSlam tag team victory with Paul against Randy Orton and the American singer Jelly Roll, and a desire to have a first ever singles match with Cena before he hangs up his boots.
Asked whether he had been lobbying WWE's chief content officer Paul Levesque, aka ring great Triple H, to be one of Cena's final opponents, McIntyre said: "I've been invoking Cena's name for literally years, pointing out we've never had a singles match, pointing out there's certain feelings I have based on spending years and years on the road with him that basically nobody else, besides maybe like a Sheamus or Miz or R-Truth, has.
"I have certain feelings, and I would love, like I did with CM Punk, to get my hands on him, to get a little bit of retribution for Drew. But also prove, if he's the greatest of all time, I can keep up with the greatest of all time.
"Like a la Punk, when he's on the microphone, [people are like] 'he's the best of all time on the mic'. And I got on the mic with him and everyone's like, 'wow, Drew's the guy on the mic', and then I won all the talking awards and whatever. I want to be in the ring with the best, and I want to prove that I belong at the top level.
"I said I want Cena for years, and in the past six months, I kind of changed my tune, when they started doing the, let's call it, 'bad guy Cena'. I think he basically admitted himself last week, it wasn't very great. It wasn't ideal. In fact, it was terrible. And then he went back to 'Super Cena'.
"I basically said, 'I don't want to face this...' - I'm trying to watch my language here - 'this b**** version of Cena'. I didn't want to face him anymore. I said, 'I want Cody to be the winner, I want to beat Cody for the title.'
"He's the one right now, who's 'Super Cody', and I want to beat him. I want to take the title off him. Plus we have this 20-year story, Cody and I, parallel careers, different destinations.
"But now, seeing Cena go back to his roots, proving he's a hypocrite, [because] we can in fact see him, which we'll discuss if I ever get the chance on the mic, or get the match with him, we'll talk about that kind of stuff, you know, compromising his values. I don't want to give too many details because I really have a lot up here [points to head] and I want to unload on the world if I get the opportunity.
"But I would love to get in the ring with Cena, this version of Cena, the version I've seen against Cody, that's the John Cena I want to fight.
"You know, he didn't come out on top in the end, but I'll admit it was a hell of a match, or a hell of a performance, and that's the John Cena I want to fight. So if he's got the stones, I want him before he retires."

Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke is 'overwhelmed and emotionally drained' as she's seen crying in public after wrestling icon's death
Hulk Hogan 's estranged daughter, Brooke, has become 'overwhelmed and emotionally drained' following the WWE icon's death, the Daily Mail can reveal. The wrestling icon suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away at the age of 71 last month but, by then, Hogan had gone years without speaking to Brooke, 37. Brooke initially remained silent in the wake of his death, before later taking to social media and demanding an autopsy on his body, as she came to terms with the news. She then held her own memorial for the WWE legend last week after choosing not to attend the funeral with family and friends at the Indian Rocks Baptist Church. Despite their estrangement, the death has taken a huge toll on the 37-year-old - with pictures this week emerging of an emotional Brooke walking through Orlando. Now, a source close to the family has shed light on her situation and told the Daily Mail: 'Brooke is overwhelmed right now with everything. 'She has been receiving a lot more attention than the recent past, her father just died, so things are a bit off the rails right now. 'She hasn't been able to really digest it all. Also, we are days removed from what would have been her father's 72nd birthday. 'She is a very emotional person anyways, but all these things combined have made her have to dig deep in her feelings. She has been crying privately and publicly and it just hits her at different times.' In the days before his passing, WWE superstar Hogan was able to reconcile with his estranged daughter over a 'tearful conversation'. However, Brooke revealed she had felt her father starting to pull away - saying he no longer wanted support or advice from her, despite his health issues. The source continued: 'Her husband and her kids have been such a support system. For all that she has lost, she has realized all that she has and all that she has had. 'She was so close to her father and all the feelings that come from that, especially since they were estranged for a bit before his death has put everything into perspective. 'Nobody is ready for when this happens, but dealing with it in the public eye with arguable one of the most popular people on earth is an interesting thing to go through. This isn't an act in any way, she is emotionally drained.' Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, died on July 24 from a cardiac arrest, according to a Florida medical examiner's office. Brooke announced last week that she had opted to 'privately' honor her father The 71-year-old previously had leukemia and atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm, the report from the District Six Medical Examiner also said. However, despite his previous health issues, Hogan's daughter Brooke took to social media in the days that followed to seemingly accuse the authorities of foul play. She later backtracked from those claims via a social media post but insisted she still wanted 'answers' over her father's death. Meanwhile, Hogan's son-in-law and Brooke's husband, Steven Oleksy, claimed the WWE icon had 'no interest' in meeting Brooke's twins prior to his death. According to People, Oleksy said: 'I sent text messages once again to kind of gauge where he was at, but there was no interest.' Reports back in April claimed that Oleksy had made several failed attempts to 'foster peace' with the wrestling legend. Oleksy continued: 'She [Brooke] was there for every surgery leading up to the last two years. She would fly down on her own dime, take care of her dad, and it just made a lot of sense. 'No one understood his body, procedures, medications and everything else more than my wife,' he said.

Vince McMahon makes Hulk Hogan 'racism' claim
Vince McMahon has defended the late Hulk Hogan , insisting the wrestling legend was not racist - despite 'saying some racist things.' Hogan - real name Terry Bollea - died late last month at the age of 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was the biggest name in professional wrestling, enjoying superstardom and spreading 'Hulkamania' around the world. But Hogan also endured a number of scandals that damaged his legacy - both in and out of the ring. Back in 2015, he was heard using racial slurs when discussing his daughter love life. On the tapes, in which he ranted about Brooke sleeping with a black man, Hogan said: 'I am a racist, to a point, [expletive] [expletive]'. WWE cut ties with Hogan over the outburst before McMahon brought back his biggest star a few years later. The longtime boss and face of WWE has battled his own scandals in recent years. McMahon, who is currently fighting sordid allegations of [sexual] trafficking , told TMZ: 'I knew he wasn't a racist, I'd been with him for so many years. 'He wasn't a racist. He said some racist things, and he should pay for that, and he did. But in the end, I think that everyone saw the real Hulk Hogan, Terry Bollea and they felt: "Wait a minute. 'This guy, he doesn't act like a racist, he's not a racist. We all make mistakes. That was a big one, but he wasn't a racist.' Hogan later branded his own comments 'offensive' and 'unacceptable'. He also begged for 'forgiveness' in a tearful interview on Good Morning America. ' I'm a nice guy,' Hogan said. McMahon stepped down as WWE CEO three years ago after it was revealed the company investigated allegations of sexual misconduct. Then in 2024, McMahon resigned as executive chairman of WWE parent company TKO Group holdings when a former employee, Janel Grant, sued him for sexual trafficking. That lawsuit remains pending and McMahon has denied the allegations. The legendary promoter bought the World Wrestling Federation from his father more than four decades ago. Since then, the brand has changed to World Wrestling Entertainment, while becoming an international sensation with various properties continuously touring around the world. Meanwhile McMahon's wife, Linda, is now Donald Trump's Secretary of Education after helping to get him elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2024.
