Maryland Weather: Chilly today, severe storms possible Wednesday
BALTIMORE-- Expect sunshine and chilly weather today. Rain, wind, and possible severe storms arrive Wednesday.
High pressure in control of our weather means a quiet and chilly Monday. Early morning clouds will continue to thin out and we'll see more in the way of sunshine as the day plays out. Look for high temperatures in the lower to middle 40s. Winds won't be nearly as strong as Sunday out of the west-northwest at 5 to 10 mph.
Skies will stay mainly clear tonight with lows around 30°.
Tuesday is our pick of the week with sunshine giving way to increasing clouds. Milder temperatures arrive Tuesday afternoon with highs around 60°. Tuesday is a good day to get any outdoor preparations made for a stormy Wednesday.
The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued a WJZ First Alert Weather Day Wednesday for rain, gusty winds, and the potential for severe thunderstorms. Scattered showers and gusty southerly winds will develop Wednesday morning as temperatures climb into the 50s. After this first wave of rain passes through the area, there should be a pause in the rain. During this possible break in the rain during the early to mid afternoon, clouds may break for some peeks of sunshine. If this partial clearing happens, temperatures will warm into the 60s, increasing the threat for severe thunderstorms.
If severe thunderstorms are able to develop Wednesday afternoon and evening, there is the potential for damaging winds and an isolated tornado or two. This severe weather threat is conditional that we see some partial clearing for part of the day Wednesday. The timeline for possible severe storms would be from 3p until 7p.
Showers and storms exit Wednesday night with temperatures falling into the middle 40s under mostly cloudy skies.
Thursday features strong and gusty winds as Wednesday's storm system rapidly strengthens to our northeast while simultaneously high pressure begins to move in from the west. This increasing difference in air pressure will generate strong and gusty winds throughout the day. Winds will easily gust 40 to 50 mph. With a partly to mostly cloudy sky Thursday, high temperatures will reach the lower 50s.
Friday looks fantastic! Expect plenty of sunshine with highs in the mid 50s with a gusty westerly wind.
Next weekend looks decent at this point. Both days look to feature a decent amount of wind. Saturday has a mix of sun & clouds with highs in the middle to upper 50s. Sunday is a notch cooler, but still nice with highs in the lower 50s.

Refreshing today in Maryland followed by heat and humidity
Gorgeous Outdoor Weather Today Early morning chilly temperatures were the big story across Maryland on this Monday. Temperatures started in the middle to upper 40s with a mostly clear sky. Warmer weather will return to the area this afternoon with highs climbing into the middle 70s. A wind out of the northwest will keep temperatures comfortable and humidity levels low. Under a mostly clear sky tonight, expect another cool night with lows dipping down into the lower to middle 50s. Turning Warmer Tuesday While Tuesday morning will start comfortably cool with early morning temperatures in the 50s to near 60°, warmer weather will build into the area midday into the afternoon hours. Highs will climb into the lower 80s with a south-southwest wind at 10 mph. Humidity levels will remain comfortable. Canadian Wildfire Smoke Arrives In addition to a warm Tuesday, the sky will likely be very hazy. Canadian wildfire smoke that has been visible in our sky since Sunday will continue to build across the state. This heavier concentration of smoke means that some of the smoke may reach ground level. This would create a film or haze over the sun. It may also give the air a smoky smell across parts of Maryland. The best chance of experiencing this Tuesday would be across west-central Maryland, however, the whole state will see some impacts from haze from the Canadian wildfire smoke. Summer-like Heat Wednesday through Friday The first taste of summer heat and humidity will build into Maryland by Wednesday. Highs temperatures Wednesday afternoon will climb into the upper 80s near Chesapeake Bay to the lower 90s north and west of the Baltimore Beltway. Thursday will be the hottest day of the stretch with heat and humidity all across the state. Many areas will experience their first 90° day of the year so far. We'll see a mixture of sunshine and clouds, but there looks to be little to no thunderstorms on Thursday to cool us off. Friday will be muggy and warm with an isolated thunderstorm or two later in the day. Otherwise expect summer-like temperatures with highs in the upper 80s. Scattered Strong Storms Saturday A strong cold front will approach the area Saturday from the northwest. Saturday looks to start dry, warm, and muggy with partial sunshine. As heat and humidity builds throughout the day, the cold front will start to trigger scattered thunderstorms across Pennsylvania and western Maryland. These storms could intensify and become strong to severe by the time they reach our area Saturday afternoon and evening. Stay tuned as the WJZ First Alert Weather Team will finetune this forecast once we gain more clarity on timing and intensity of storms. Superb Sunday Behind Saturday's strong cold front, humidity levels should fall throughout Sunday as the sky clears during the morning. Expect mostly sunny, breezy, and low humidity conditions. This should make it a spectacular day to be outside. Highs will top out in the lower 80s.

Severe storms and heavy rain risk Friday evening across Maryland
We can catch our breaths today with a quieter weather day ahead. After Wednesday's soaking rainfall, which delivered anywhere between 1 and 3 inches across the state, today looks mostly cloudy and dry. The drought update this AM takes into account last week's beneficial rain. Yesterday's rain will reflect in next week's update. @WJZ — Steven Sosna (@SteveSosnaWX) May 29, 2025 We'll be dealing with high levels of humidity and seasonably warm temperatures throughout this Thursday with highs in the middle to upper 70s. A few isolated to widely scattered showers and thundershowers are possible this evening. This chance of wet weather will continue through the overnight hours. The showers and storms will be of the hit or miss variety, so not every neighborhood will get wet. Patchy areas of fog will develop overnight and linger into the Friday morning commute. Alert Day issued Friday for risk of Severe Storms & Heavy Rain Friday morning looks quiet with patchy morning fog and very muggy conditions. Low clouds and fog will give way to partly sunny skies. The severe storm threat Friday is dependent on how warm we get during the day. The more sunshine we receive earlier in the day, means a greater severe weather threat during the evening. The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued an Alert Day Friday afternoon and evening for the risk of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, which may produce areas of flooding. There will be a few rounds of showers and heavy thunderstorms throughout the evening and overnight hours. The greatest threat for damaging winds and hail will take place with the first round of strong storms between 3 pm and 11 pm. In addition to potential strong winds and hail, storms will have torrential downpours, so areas of poor drainage and urban flooding will be possible. Additional clusters of heavy showers and storms will continue through the overnight hours. While most of these storms should not be severe, they will contain more heavy downpours. With the ground already saturated from recent heavy rain, the threshold for flooding is low. Any storm Friday evening or night could cause flooding, so please turn around and don't cross any roadway that's flooded. O's Game Forecast Friday Evening The O's game scheduled for Friday evening against the White Sox needs to be watched closely. A few rounds of strong storms are possible, so rain delay(s) and/or a postponement will be possible if multiple storms cross over Camden Yards. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Outside of storms, expect a warm, muggy, and cloudy evening. Saturday Showers and Storms Saturday will stay unsettled with several rounds of showers and thunderstorms possible. Thankfully the atmosphere should have less energy than Friday, so the threat for severe weather is lower. We'll see a few rounds of showers and storms possible starting as early as the morning hours. Another few clusters of storms will be possible midday into early evening. Some of the strongest storms will have heavy rain, small hail, gusty winds, and lightning. Most of the storms should exit the area before 9 pm. Superb Stretch Starts Sunday A well deserved period of quiet, comfortable, and beautiful spring weather begins Sunday. Sunday will be the coolest day of the stretch with highs in the middle 70s along with a gusty breeze. Monday will be similar to Sunday, but with less wind. Temperatures continue to warm Tuesday under plenty of sunshine. Afternoon highs should climb into the lower to middle 80s. The peak warmth will arrive midweek where temperatures will soar into the upper 80s with some spots away from Chesapeake Bay getting close to 90° with plenty of sunshine.

Alert Day Wednesday across Maryland for heavy windswept rain
Showers are possible after 6 pm this evening with a steady to heavy, windswept rain likely Wednesday across Maryland. Rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are possible by early Wednesday evening. Today is a good day to get any weather dependent outdoor activities done. Despite the clouds, we are going to stay dry through late afternoon. Clouds will continue to lower and thicken throughout the day. Highs will top out in the lower 70s. An area of low pressure will approach from the south and west this evening through Wednesday. The first batch of showers are possible as early as 6 pm, especially south and west of Baltimore City. Showers will continue to overspread the area after 6 pm through midnight. Showers will begin to gel into a widespread steady rain before daybreak tomorrow morning. Low temperatures will fall into the mid 50s tonight. Wednesday is a WJZ First Alert Weather Day for a widespread steady to heavy, windswept rain. The heaviest rain will impact the morning commute through the early afternoon hours. Rain will gradually taper off to showers during the afternoon and evening. A solid one to two inches of rain is expected by the time the heaviest rain ends Wednesday afternoon. The morning commute will be highly impacted the stormy weather, so please make sure you budget yourself extra time and check back in with the WJZ First Alert Weather Team. A cold front will approach the area Thursday. This will bring another chance of a few showers and thunderstorms. Ahead of the front, Thursday will be warm and muggy with a mostly cloudy sky. Any storm on Thursday has the potential to drop some drenching downpours and gusty winds. Highs will top out in the upper 70s. Another area of low pressure will be forming on Friday into Saturday and its track may bring us more wet weather. Expect showers or a batch of rain to develop Friday afternoon and evening and continue through early Saturday morning. An additional batch of showers and thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon and evening as the second half of this weather system moves through the area. Saturday will be seasonably mild and very muggy with highs in the middle 70s. Sunday and Monday look like gorgeous days as we start the new month of June. With a partly to mostly sunny sky Sunday, we'll see highs back into the middle 70s with less humidity. Monday looks stunning with abundant sunshine and highs in the lower 80s.
