Alert Day Wednesday across Maryland for heavy windswept rain
Showers are possible after 6 pm this evening with a steady to heavy, windswept rain likely Wednesday across Maryland. Rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are possible by early Wednesday evening. Today is a good day to get any weather dependent outdoor activities done. Despite the clouds, we are going to stay dry through late afternoon. Clouds will continue to lower and thicken throughout the day. Highs will top out in the lower 70s. An area of low pressure will approach from the south and west this evening through Wednesday. The first batch of showers are possible as early as 6 pm, especially south and west of Baltimore City. Showers will continue to overspread the area after 6 pm through midnight. Showers will begin to gel into a widespread steady rain before daybreak tomorrow morning. Low temperatures will fall into the mid 50s tonight. Wednesday is a WJZ First Alert Weather Day for a widespread steady to heavy, windswept rain. The heaviest rain will impact the morning commute through the early afternoon hours. Rain will gradually taper off to showers during the afternoon and evening. A solid one to two inches of rain is expected by the time the heaviest rain ends Wednesday afternoon. The morning commute will be highly impacted the stormy weather, so please make sure you budget yourself extra time and check back in with the WJZ First Alert Weather Team. A cold front will approach the area Thursday. This will bring another chance of a few showers and thunderstorms. Ahead of the front, Thursday will be warm and muggy with a mostly cloudy sky. Any storm on Thursday has the potential to drop some drenching downpours and gusty winds. Highs will top out in the upper 70s. Another area of low pressure will be forming on Friday into Saturday and its track may bring us more wet weather. Expect showers or a batch of rain to develop Friday afternoon and evening and continue through early Saturday morning. An additional batch of showers and thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon and evening as the second half of this weather system moves through the area. Saturday will be seasonably mild and very muggy with highs in the middle 70s. Sunday and Monday look like gorgeous days as we start the new month of June. With a partly to mostly sunny sky Sunday, we'll see highs back into the middle 70s with less humidity. Monday looks stunning with abundant sunshine and highs in the lower 80s.

Rainy, breezy, and unseasonably cool weather across Maryland
A WJZ First Alert Weather Day is in effect until noon for periods of rain, wind, and messy road conditions. Budget yourself extra travel time if you're headed out on the roads today. Widespread windswept rain is impacting our morning travel conditions. Expect some travel delays with slick roads, road spray, and some traffic incidents across the area. The steadiest rain will start to taper off by early afternoon. Expect a raw and chilly morning with temperatures in the 50s with a raw breeze out of the southeast at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 25 mph. Anywhere from 0.25" to 0.75" of rain is possible. This afternoon stays unsettled and cool with a few more rounds of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Since we have an east wind and cool temperatures, thunderstorms won't be severe, but will contain pockets of heavier downpours. High temperatures today will be unseasonably cool with highs in the 50s to near 60°. More rounds of scattered showers are likely tonight into Thursday morning. Temperatures will stay cool and raw in the 50s. There will be a few brief breaks in the showers & storms Thursday where the sun could come out from time to time. If this happens, isolated to scattered thunderstorms will form during the afternoon heat of the day. Any storm could have lightning strikes, brief downpours, small hail, and gusty winds. Less hours of the day will be wet on Thursday than Wednesday. Highs will briefly reach the mid-60s before afternoon and evening scattered storms cool us off. For getaway Friday the weather will continue to show improvements. While there still could be a brief sprinkle or shower, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy for most of the day. Travel conditions should be dry for the bulk of the day with high temperatures getting close to 70°. Winds will be blustery Friday out of the west-northwest at 15 to 25 mph. The Memorial Day Weekend is trending in a nicer direction with less rain, more sun, but still seasonably cool temperatures. The nicest days of the holiday weekend across Maryland should be Saturday and Sunday with partly sunny skies and highs in the lower 70s. The Memorial Day forecast itself even is looking better as the next weather system is trending further south in its track. This would mean additional clouds, but little in the way of rain. There is still some unceratainty with the track of this disturbance, so please check back with the WJZ First Alert Weather Team for any changes or adjustments to the holiday weekend forecast. Down at the Atlantic beaches on the eastern shore, the weather is also looking pretty nice Friday through Monday with partly to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Widespread rain will return to Maryland Tuesday of next week and continue for a few days before drying out.

Warmer weekend; Strong storms possible in Maryland Sunday
Temperatures will warm up as we head into the weekend, but we're still tracking a chance for strong storms on Sunday. Expect areas of fog to develop across the region late tonight, continuing through Saturday morning. Overnight lows tonight will remain mostly in the low to mid-40s. Saturday will bring mostly cloudy skies, with fog likely burning off by mid- to late morning. Conditions will stay dry throughout the day. High temperatures will reach around 60 degrees, though some areas may remain in the upper 50s during the afternoon. Saturday night will be milder, with lows by Sunday morning dipping into the low to mid-50s. On Sunday, high temperatures will approach 70 degrees, accompanied by breezy conditions. Winds will gust over 40 mph during the afternoon. A WJZ First Alert Weather Day remains in effect for later Sunday due to the potential for severe weather. Showers and thunderstorms will move into the region late Sunday evening, with timing now pushed slightly later—after dark—for most areas. The primary threat from any strong storms will be damaging wind gusts. Although the overall risk for severe weather remains low, we'll keep you updated throughout the weekend. Looking ahead to next week, rain chances should clear out early Monday morning, giving way to a mix of clouds and sunshine. Breezy conditions will persist in the storm's wake, making for a blustery St. Patrick's Day across the region. Monday afternoon highs will reach the mid to upper 50s, with some locations approaching 60 degrees. Temperatures will cool into the upper 30s Monday night. Expect plenty of sunshine on Tuesday, with high temperatures reaching the mid to upper 60s. Tuesday and Wednesday look very pleasant across the area, with Wednesday afternoon highs climbing into the lower 70s. The next cold front arrives on Thursday, bringing a chance for showers and possibly a thunderstorm late Thursday into Thursday night. The system will quickly exit the area by Friday, leaving cooler temperatures in the 50s and gusty northwest winds.

Maryland Weather: Chilly today, severe storms possible Wednesday
BALTIMORE-- Expect sunshine and chilly weather today. Rain, wind, and possible severe storms arrive Wednesday. High pressure in control of our weather means a quiet and chilly Monday. Early morning clouds will continue to thin out and we'll see more in the way of sunshine as the day plays out. Look for high temperatures in the lower to middle 40s. Winds won't be nearly as strong as Sunday out of the west-northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Skies will stay mainly clear tonight with lows around 30°. Tuesday is our pick of the week with sunshine giving way to increasing clouds. Milder temperatures arrive Tuesday afternoon with highs around 60°. Tuesday is a good day to get any outdoor preparations made for a stormy Wednesday. The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued a WJZ First Alert Weather Day Wednesday for rain, gusty winds, and the potential for severe thunderstorms. Scattered showers and gusty southerly winds will develop Wednesday morning as temperatures climb into the 50s. After this first wave of rain passes through the area, there should be a pause in the rain. During this possible break in the rain during the early to mid afternoon, clouds may break for some peeks of sunshine. If this partial clearing happens, temperatures will warm into the 60s, increasing the threat for severe thunderstorms. If severe thunderstorms are able to develop Wednesday afternoon and evening, there is the potential for damaging winds and an isolated tornado or two. This severe weather threat is conditional that we see some partial clearing for part of the day Wednesday. The timeline for possible severe storms would be from 3p until 7p. Showers and storms exit Wednesday night with temperatures falling into the middle 40s under mostly cloudy skies. Thursday features strong and gusty winds as Wednesday's storm system rapidly strengthens to our northeast while simultaneously high pressure begins to move in from the west. This increasing difference in air pressure will generate strong and gusty winds throughout the day. Winds will easily gust 40 to 50 mph. With a partly to mostly cloudy sky Thursday, high temperatures will reach the lower 50s. Friday looks fantastic! Expect plenty of sunshine with highs in the mid 50s with a gusty westerly wind. Next weekend looks decent at this point. Both days look to feature a decent amount of wind. Saturday has a mix of sun & clouds with highs in the middle to upper 50s. Sunday is a notch cooler, but still nice with highs in the lower 50s.

Maryland Weather: Warmer Air Arrives Overnight
BALTIMORE-- Ice accumulations of one-hundredth of an inch reported across most of the viewing area. Luckily, this is not enough to cause hazardous driving conditions. There is still a possibility of freezing rain along the MD-PA state line through midnight. Expect warming conditions overnight associated with a warm front overnight. We will see sunshine on Sunday with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 40s. Monday: Dry but Chilly Clouds will return Sunday night into Monday, but conditions will remain dry through Monday afternoon. High temperatures on Monday will be in the 40 degrees. Tuesday: Another WJZ First Alert Weather Day Likely Another storm system will begin moving into the region on Tuesday, bringing a likely WJZ First Alert Weather Day due to the potential for heavy snow and ice. Right now, this system appears to bring a significant round of snow to the area, though a wintry mix is possible depending on the storm's track. Areas north and west of I-95 have the best chance for heavier snow. South of I-95, a wintry mix is more likely. Far Southern Maryland and the Lower Eastern Shore will likely start as snow, but precipitation may change to rain Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. It is still too early to determine exact snowfall amounts, but significant accumulations are possible by Wednesday morning. Be prepared for school and work cancellations or delays on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday morning. There is a chance for lingering snow showers Wednesday morning, but the storm system will move out quickly. Thursday: Warmer Air Brings Mainly Rain Another system will arrive Thursday, but this time, warmer air will likely keep precipitation mostly rain. There is a chance for a wintry mix at the onset, but rain will be the dominant precipitation type. Friday and the Weekend: More Storms Possible Clearing on Friday, with highs in the low 40s.
