Hard for Brazilian club Recife to lure Bergson away from JDT
Recife, who compete in the top flight of the Brazilian league, have reportedly made contact with Da Silva.
Brazilian journalist Antonio Gabriel wrote on X: "Striker Bergson (34) is on Sport Recife's radar. The Rubro-Negro club has enquired about the player, who has been with Johor in Malaysia since 2020, scoring 152 goals in 137 matches."
Since joining JDT in February 2021, Da Silva has plundered 150 goals in 141 appearances, and is just one short of breaking Indra Putra Mahayuddin's all-time Super League scoring record.
But beyond club success, Da Silva is also close to qualifying for Malaysian naturalisation under Fifa's five-year residency rule. His contract with JDT runs until the end of this year, putting him just months away from being eligible to play for Harimau Malaya. A move now to Recife would reset that clock entirely.
Gabriel said Recife's biggest hurdle isn't just convincing Bergson, but matching his wages.
"Among the main challenges is the player's high salary demand. What Da Silva earns in Malaysia is significantly more than what Sport Recife can offer," he said.
With national team prospects within reach and more glory with JDT beckons, it's hard to see Da Silva leaving the Southern Tigers now.

Communications Ministry To Conduct Study On Music Industry Development, Issues And Challenges
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is implementing a Music Industry Development Study to examine issues, challenges and proposed action plans towards empowering the sustainable and dynamic development of the Malaysian music industry. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the study is also refining business models, governance, staffing and specific laws that can support the development of the industry. 'For music, we currently do not have a specific act, therefore the ministry is looking into the best way to ensure that an act is drafted to ensure the welfare, sustainability and development of the music industry. 'We are looking into it and this study also takes into account the views and input of music industry players through the Music Industry Protem Committee,' he said when winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) motion for the Ministry of Communications at the Dewan Rakyat today. He said a total of 20 members of the Music Industry Protem Committee had been appointed, from various fields including composers, lyricists, recording companies or studios, singers, musicians, Collective Management Organisations (CMOs), publishing companies, association representatives, academicians and event management. Fahmi said the results of the study would be used as input in determining the availability and need for a specific body to regulate the development of the music industry or to include the music industry in the functions of existing agencies or regulatory bodies. Regarding the proposed amendments to the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia Act (Finas) 1981 (Act 244), Fahmi said it is expected to be tabled in the upcoming Parliament meeting scheduled for this October. He said the process of improving the act includes expanding the scope of regulation, governance, functions and enforcement aspects of the act. Among the proposed amendments under Act 244 is related to the membership of Finas Corporation Members, which falls under the scope of governance which aims to improve the membership structure so that it consists of experienced local film industry players, has an excellent record of achievement in the field of local film and has credibility in fighting for the welfare of industry players.

Formula One unlikely to return to Sepang, MotoGP the priority, says SIC
PETALING JAYA: Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has made it clear that their current priority is to make sure Malaysia continues to host MotoGP and has downplayed the possibility of Formula One making a comeback to Sepang. During a recent MotoGP event, SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif said Malaysia must look to secure hosting rights for MotoGP and should avoid "making the same mistake" by letting Formula One go. He went on to add that SIC and a number of other stakeholders are keen on having Formula One return to Sepang but highlighted the high organising costs and long waiting list to get on the race calendar. This sparked excitement and debate on whether Malaysia should host Formula One again. SIC, however, released a statement on Wednesday (Aug 20) reaffirming their commitment to MotoGP. Malaysia's current deal with Dorna Sports to host the pinnacle of two-wheeled racing expires in 2026 and is due for renewal. "SIC wishes to clarify recent media reports. Our CEO's recent remarks referred specifically to the renewal of the MotoGP Malaysia contract beyond 2026, and not in relation to the potential return of Formula One. "While Formula One remains a significant part of our history, regaining its hosting rights has proven to be both complex and costly. "The key priority is safeguarding MotoGP, which continues to resonate strongly with Malaysian fans and remains more accessible from both a spectator and organisational standpoint," he said, adding that Malaysia's contract to host MotoGP runs until 2026. "SIC is fully committed to working closely with the government through the Youth and Sports Ministry as well as with Dorna Sports and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the continuation of this world-class and longest running international event in Malaysia." Sepang, which was purpose-built to run Formula One races, hosted Formula One from 1999 until 2017. The decision to drop the race was made in 2017 due to high organising costs.
