TN to install 360-degree cameras, driver monitoring systems in govt buses
In a major initiative to enhance passenger safety and improve operational efficiency, the Tamil Nadu government has floated tenders worth Rs 17 crore to install advanced surveillance and driver monitoring systems in buses operated by State Transport Undertakings (STUs).
The project is being executed through the Institute of Road Transport (IRT).
The move follows an announcement made by Transport and Electricity Minister S.S. Sivasankar during the debate on the Transport Department's demand for grants in the Assembly.
According to tender notifications issued by the IRT, the government plans to equip 4,000 buses with 360-degree surveillance camera systems at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. In addition, a pilot project worth Rs 2 crore will introduce Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) in 500 buses.
Each bus under the camera project will be fitted with four high-definition wide-angle cameras, providing a full panoramic view that helps eliminate blind spots.
Priced at Rs 37,500 per unit, these cameras will come with features such as wide dynamic range (WDR), auto white balance, digital noise reduction, and infrared capability for low-light conditions. The systems will also support encrypted data transmission and comply with established data protection norms.
Minister Sivasankar had earlier informed the Assembly that the 360-degree surveillance systems will aid in detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles that are often missed by conventional mirrors, especially in congested urban areas.
The real-time footage will also serve as valuable legal evidence in the event of road accidents.
The Driver Monitoring System (DMS) units, each costing Rs 40,000, will employ artificial intelligence and infrared sensors to monitor drivers for signs of fatigue, distraction, or drowsiness. These systems will track eye movements, head position, and posture, and provide real-time alerts to allow for immediate corrective action.
Additionally, each DMS unit will record behavioural data to support post-trip analysis and help plan training interventions for drivers.
The current rollout on 500 buses is a pilot phase, with the potential for a wider implementation depending on its effectiveness and feedback from transport authorities. This initiative marks a significant technological upgrade for Tamil Nadu's public transport system and is expected to improve both passenger safety and driver accountability across the fleet.

Pawan extends financial help of `50L to Madhusudan's family
Kavali (Nellore district): Minister Kandula Durgesh announced that following instructions from Jana Sena Chief Pawan Kalyan, he personally provided Rs 50 lakh in financial aid to the family of Madhusudan Rao, a software engineer from Kavali, who tragically died in the Pahalgam terror attack during a tour to Jammu and Kashmir in April. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Durgesh stated that Deputy Chief Minister and Janasenani Pawan Kalyan was deeply moved upon hearing about the incident. The Minister added that based on their leader Pawan's decision to support Madhusudan's family, they travelled to Kavali to personally console the family and offer encouragement. He assured them that Pawan Kalyan's help and cooperation would always be available to the family. The Minister said the Deputy Chief Minister decided to support Madhusudan's family, who unjustly fell victim to a terrorist attack, and has provided personal financial assistance. Durgesh assured the children that they would always stand by the family so they wouldn't feel the pain of losing their father and the main breadwinner. Minister Durgesh instilled confidence, stating that the party would provide support, whether it's for a small-level activist or a state-level leader, for any assistance required.

‘Virasat se vikas ki ore': Delhi Assembly marks 100 days with Visionary Report Card
New Delhi: In a grand ceremony held today, the Delhi Legislative Assembly unveiled its 'Report Card' marking the completion of the first 100 days of its 8th term. The report highlights key achievements, innovative initiatives, and a people-centric legislative approach aimed at inclusive growth. The event was graced by Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, who attended as the Chief Guest. Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, presided over the ceremony, joined on stage by Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, and Chief Whip Abhay Verma. In his address, Malhotra praised the Delhi Assembly's functioning and commended the report card as a 'reflection of noteworthy accomplishments.' HC grants relief to candidates
New Delhi : The Delhi High Court on Friday granted relief to CLAT-PG candidates over alleged discrepancies in the answer key and directed the consortium of NLUs to declare results soon. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela's decision came over the plea of students in relation to a couple of answers in the key. The court, however, rejected the objection with respect to the declared answer to a third question, and asked the consortium of national law universities (NLUs) to accordingly award marks to the candidates. The court passed the order while deciding three pleas seeking rectification of errors in the final answer key of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)-PG 2025. The bench's verdict highlighted the issue of a high fee of Rs 1,000 charged by the consortium per question for raising the objection to the provisional answer key, observing there ought to be a 'fine balance' between the concerns of the candidates and the institutions. While comparing the fee charged for objected questions by other organisations, the fees sought by the consortium 'appeared to be excessive and disproportionate' but the consortium's concern that it was required to keep frivolous individuals and coaching institutes at bay also did not appear to be 'fanciful or imaginative', it added. The bench, however, expected the consortium to take heed of its observations and take appropriate steps to 'avoid such excessive fee in the next examinations'. 'It may be advisable for the consortium to place this issue before the committee headed by Justice G. Raghuram (retd) for his valuable opinion which may be adhered to by it,' the bench said. The court ruled on the correctness of the answers in the answer key after considering each question and the submissions made by the counsel for the petitioners and the consortium. CLAT determines admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in national law universities in the country. CLAT PG 2025 was held on December 1, 2024. Multiple pleas were filed in different high courts alleging several questions in the exam were wrong. On February 6, the Supreme Court transferred all the petitions over the issue to the Delhi High Court for a 'consistent adjudication'. The top court passed the direction on the transfer petitions of the consortium.
