Minister of Energy: Al-Samra Power Generation Company Contributes About 30% of Jordan's Electricity Needs

On Thursday, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, sponsored the Independence Day celebration organized by Al-Samra Power Generation Company in the Hashmiya area of Zarqa Governorate. The event was attended by the Director General of the National Electric Power Company, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, and several officials and dignitaries from Zarqa city. اضافة اعلان Al-Kharabsheh stated that Al-Samra Power Generation Company contributes about 30% of the Kingdom's electricity needs, making it one of the largest and most important energy companies in Jordan. He reviewed the achievements in the energy sector, noting that Al-Samra station began commercial production in 2005 with the first gas turbine having a capacity of 100 megawatts. The station's current nominal capacity has reached 1,241 megawatts, with a total capacity expected to reach 1,834 megawatts by 2025. He explained that the station is managed with high efficiency by national staff, with a large portion coming from Zarqa Governorate, which enhances the company's role in supporting local communities and creating job opportunities. Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that the economic modernization vision serves as a roadmap for Jordan, viewing the energy sector as a key driver for other sectors and a main pillar of the national economy. He stressed the importance of confronting current challenges, turning them into opportunities, and aiming to achieve many future ambitions. He also noted that the government is working to fully secure the Kingdom's natural gas needs from the Risha field within the next five years, thanks to the efforts of the National Petroleum Company's teams. For his part, the Director General of Al-Samra Power Generation Company, Engineer Sami Al-Zwaitin, praised the company's achievements since its establishment in 2005 until 2025, during which electricity production increased about twelvefold.
Al-Zwaitin added that the company operates with Jordanian hands, pointing out that it contributes to generating more than 30% of the country's electricity production, and that Jordan has witnessed significant development in the energy sector, especially electricity.

Zain's initiatives aim to empower national talents and entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into tangible projects with a positive impact that serves the national economy and fosters innovation. UNIFLIX is an AI-powered educational platform that offers a unique and innovative experience aimed at simplifying university students' lives through tailored tools that help them organize their studies and better understand academic material, thereby achieving improved outcomes with higher efficiency. The platform also focuses on developing both the academic and professional aspects of students by equipping them with essential market skills and strengthening their time management and decision-making capabilities to support their educational and career journeys alike. The support offered by Zain consists of financial funding amounting to 15,000 JOD, along with one year of logistical support, including accounting services, legal services, technical consulting, visual identity development, media and social media promotion, marketing services, and market access facilitation. It is worth mentioning that Zain Innovation Campus (ZINC) is committed to launching 'Zain Al-Mubadara' program annually to support new groups of young entrepreneurs and Jordanian startups. Over the past years, the program has received thousands of ideas, many of which were transformed into operational companies that enriched the local market with emerging projects across modern sectors aligned with evolving market demands. So far, 253 Jordanian startups across various sectors have benefited from ZINC's support, contributing to the creation of new job opportunities and strengthening the national economy. ZINC provides selected startups and entrepreneurial ideas with total funding of 75,000 JOD annually, with 10,000 JOD allocated to each startup and 15,000 JOD for each selected idea. This is intended to help founders build and validate their business models in line with market needs, in addition to a full year of logistical support provided by ZINC.

He affirmed that Jordan places all its available capabilities at the service of its Syrian brothers, enabling them to rebuild their institutions and providing them with the necessary expertise, particularly in the economic field, underscoring that the Kingdom will spare no effort in supporting Syria's reconstruction process. He added that from the outset of the changes witnessed in Syria, Jordan has exerted great efforts to serve the Syrian people in many areas, including facilitating the entry of goods needed by the Syrian market and enabling Syrian products to be exported through Jordanian territory. Both sides emphasized the importance of expediting the necessary steps to implement the outcomes of the economic and trade committee, which reached understandings during its meeting in Amman last month, in order to strengthen cooperation in transportation, agriculture, customs, standards and metrology, food and drug sectors, industrial cities, and free zones, in addition to a number of related technical files.
