MOTAC allocates RM10.14m for Negeri Sembilan tourism and heritage projects
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun stated that the funding highlights the federal government's commitment to preserving the state's heritage and tourism identity.
A total of 18 projects across districts like Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jelebu, and Tampin have been greenlit under the initiative.
Aminuddin emphasised that these projects will revitalise tourism spots and support the Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026 campaign.
One major project involves the RM1.2 million conservation and relocation of Masjid Lama Parit Istana to Masjid Tanjung Beringin.
The mosque upgrade aims to safeguard Islamic heritage and traditional Malay architectural elements.
Additionally, RM800,000 will enhance Masjid Tanjung Beringin, improving its facilities and surroundings.
Lighting and landscaping upgrades at the Port Dickson Clock Tower are also part of the plan.
Key landmarks at Sunggala Roundabout, Lukut-Sepang junction, and Port Dickson gateway will undergo maintenance.
Ecotourism development at Gunung Datuk Eco Forest Park, Kenaboi State Park, and Ulu Bendul Eco Forest Park is another focus.
A RM500,000 allocation will upgrade the Pulau Burung jetty and watchtower, boosting maritime tourism and biodiversity conservation.
Aminuddin noted a 35.1% rise in international tourist arrivals to Negeri Sembilan in 2024 compared to 2023.
The state ranked sixth in tourist arrivals among Malaysia's 13 states and three Federal Territories.
This growth positions Negeri Sembilan as an emerging tourism destination in the country. - Bernama

Malaysia sees 15.5% surge in tourist arrivals from Asean countries
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has experienced a notable rise in tourist arrivals from Asean countries, with a 15.5% increase from January to June this year compared to the same period last year, says Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister stated in a Parliamentary reply that this growth reflected the effectiveness of Malaysia's promotional strategies and its strategic position as Asean Chair in 2025. "Tourism from our neighbouring Asean countries remains a major contributor to Malaysia's international tourist arrivals. "Asean visitors accounted for 74.3% of Malaysia's total international tourism in 2024. The number of visitors increased to 15.09 million in the first half of 2025, up from 13.06 million in the same period last year," he said in response to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng's (BN-Tanjung Piai) question. Tiong said Malaysia's role in hosting Asean meetings boosted the country's visibility and appeal. "Our role as Asean Chair contributes to this surge, with meetings attracting delegates from across the region." When responding to Wee's additional question about challenges in tourism promotion, Tiong acknowledged budget constraints, but emphasised ongoing efforts to collaborate with the Finance Ministry to secure necessary resources. "We are exploring partnerships and optimising our promotional efforts even with limited funds," he said. Addressing an additional question from Dr Ahmad Fakhruddin Sheikh Fakhrurazi (PN-Kuala Kedah) on cross-border tourism, Tiong pointed out the importance of infrastructure development. He said there are ongoing discussions with state governments and encouraged more engagement from Kelantan in international promotions with the ministry. "Kelantan often misses these opportunities. I urge them to participate more actively," said Tiong, taking a subtle swipe at the state's lack of involvement. Tiong also responded positively to Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor (BN-Cameron Highlands) about the promotion of Cameron Highlands during Visit Malaysia Year 2026. "We will assist wherever we can to promote Cameron Highlands," he said.

Niosh calls for enhanced water transport safety ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) has called for enhanced safety measures in water transport and related activities, particularly in the tourism sector, in line with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM 2026). In a statement today, it said tourism boat operators and handlers must comply with laws and safety standards. This includes technical requirements under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 and tourism safety guidelines issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. "Various incidents involving water transport, including the capsizing tragedy in Pulau Perhentian that claimed lives and injured several victims on June 28, should serve as a reminder to all parties of the importance of adhering to safety procedures for the wellbeing of passengers, workers and tourism operators," the statement said. To this end, the agency expressed its readiness to assist relevant parties in complying with related laws and regulations through safety training, compliance audits and the strengthening of risk management systems. It said the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, enforced since June 1 last year, requires employers with five or more workers to appoint an occupational safety and health (OSH) coordinator. These coordinators are responsible for assisting employers in complying with OSH legislation and implementing OSH programmes in the workplace. "In this regard, Niosh also offers the OSH Coordinator course and various other programmes to help operators meet legal requirements, such as basic OSH and first aid training, which also includes water rescue skills. "In addition, Niosh offers an internationally recognised management system known as the 'Adventure Tourism Safety Management Systems' or MS ISO 21101:2022. "This system is designed to help operators identify risks, plan safety controls, and provide requirements for participants in activities they organise," the statement said. The agency said that through the implementation of this safety management system, safety audits and evaluations should be conducted regularly to ensure that the operations of the parties involved comply with standards and regulations and have valid licences. Niosh also recommended safety orientation sessions for tourists before activities are conducted, including proper use of life jackets and emergency procedures, to ensure water-based activities operate at the highest level of safety.
