White House advisor criticises Apple CEO Tim Cook for company's ‘pace' in moving iPhone production out of China: 'It's the longest running soap opera in…'

White House trade advisor Peter Navarro has criticised
Apple
CEO
Tim Cook
, stating that the company is not shifting production out of China quickly enough despite pressure from the Trump administration. This follows recent demands from U.S. President Donald Trump for Apple to relocate iPhone production from overseas to the US. Apple's flagship iPhone is primarily manufactured in China, but the company has been increasing production in India, partly to mitigate the higher costs associated with the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. In May, Trump had warned that iPhones made outside the U.S. could face a tariff of 25% or more.
What White House advisor said about Apple moving iPhone production away from China
In an interview on CNBC's 'Squawk on the Street', Navarro said:
'Going back to the first Trump term, Tim Cook has continually asked for more time in order to move his factories out of China. I mean, it's the longest-running soap opera in Silicon Valley. With all these new advanced manufacturing techniques and the way things are moving with AI and things like that, it's inconceivable to me that Tim Cook could not produce his iPhones elsewhere around the world and in this country.'
Recently, Trump also reportedly told Cook,
"I don't want you building in India."

Meanwhile, analysts and supply chain experts have suggested a complete relocation of iPhone production to the US. would be impractical, with some estimates indicating a US-made iPhone could cost up to $3,500.
Currently, Apple manufactures only a limited number of its products in the US. During Trump's first term, the company expanded its efforts to assemble the $3,000 Mac Pro in Texas.
In February, Apple announced plans to invest $500 billion in the US, which includes assembling certain AI servers domestically.

UK shifts to eVisas from July 15: Don't fly without ticking off this student checklist

New UK eVisa system: What international students must do before departure The United Kingdom is set to replace physical visa stickers with eVisas from July 15, 2025, as part of a broader overhaul of its immigration system. All new visas issued from this date will be digital, linked directly to the holder's passport. The change affects all categories of migrants, including international students from countries such as India, who are among the largest groups entering the UK for higher education. The shift to eVisas is intended to streamline the immigration process, but students must ensure they meet all digital and procedural requirements before travel. Understanding the eVisa system Under the new rules, the traditional visa vignette—a sticker in the passport—will no longer be issued. Instead, an eVisa will serve as a secure digital immigration status, linked to the passport electronically. Students will receive an online account through which they can access and manage their immigration status. The eVisa system requires students to maintain up-to-date personal and passport details. Any changes, such as passport renewal, must be updated in the UK government's digital system to ensure continued proof of legal stay. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Digital account and document readiness Students must create a UKVI account to manage their eVisa. This account will be necessary for accessing visa details, updating information, and proving immigration status to institutions, landlords, and employers. It is critical that students remember their login credentials and keep contact details accurate. The UKVI system will be used by landlords and university administrators to verify a student's right to rent accommodation and enrol in courses. Failure to provide up-to-date digital records may cause delays or issues with compliance checks. Airport checks and travel documentation Although eVisas are digital, students must still carry their passport and a printed or digital copy of their visa decision letter while travelling. Border officers will use passport scans to access the eVisa. Students must ensure that the passport number on their eVisa matches the passport they are using for travel. In cases where a passport is renewed after visa approval, students must update their new passport details in their UKVI account before flying to the UK. Preparing for study and compliance checks Universities and colleges will require students to present proof of immigration status at registration. The eVisa, accessed via the UKVI account, will replace physical documentation for this purpose. Students must also be prepared to present this information for housing and employment purposes. In addition, students must comply with visa conditions, including attendance and reporting requirements. Failure to do so may result in visa curtailment or future ineligibility for post-study visas. Final checklist before departure Students should complete the following steps before travelling to the UK: • Confirm eVisa issuance and verify passport linkage • Register for a UKVI account and keep credentials secure • Update all personal and passport details in the digital system • Print or save a copy of the visa decision letter • Carry the correct passport used in the visa application • Check university and accommodation policies for immigration verification These steps are essential to ensure smooth entry and compliance under the UK's new digital immigration framework. A smart charging case can gradually make the smartphone an unnecessary appendage for earphones

For the past few years, JBL has been trying to make the charging case of wireless earphones smarter than they are expected to be. This attempt to gradually unyoke earbuds from the smartphone is for some reason still limited to this company. The new JBL Tour Pro 3 builds on the experience of products like the JBL Live Beam 3 (I used earphones with a smart charging case and I sort of see the point now ) and now comes with a smart charging case that gives a display withcontrols of its own. Released in time for the new Superman movie, the JBL Tour Pro 3 has a unique design that other companies have still not started experimenting with. The charging case's 1.57-inch customisable display lets you control various aspects of this truly wireless earphone. So you don't have to open the JBL app on the phone to switch on Auracast and connect to other devices, change equaliser modes, or go from noise-canceling to talkthrough mode. This is a very useful feature especiallywhen you are not near your phone and gradually you start using this as the primary way to control the earphones. But don't think this is all you get. Using the JBL app, I could personalise my hearing experience by checking my best fit. I also made a couple of custom equaliser settings to fit my requirements. Also, the app lets you customise the Smart Charging case with your own pictures for the home screen. I also removed some of the screens from this display which I felt I would never use. Despite all this tech, it is the audio quality you are getting a JBL for. The True ANC 2.0 keeps all sounds out and the comfy fit of the earbuds ensures there is nothing leaking in and killing your audio experience. The Tour Pro 3 has one of the best noise canceling I have checked out this year and takes out most of the ambient noise without creating a vacuum-like feel. Listening to Sapphire with Spatial 360 Head Tracking, you feel the Ed Sheeran vocal all around you as you move around. I loved the overall high-resolution sound profile of the JBL Tour Pro 3 which is natural and rich at the same time. During my evening walks it immersed me in my regular podcasts, helping me create a thought bubble of new ideas, cutting off the slow hum of Noida's very own brown noise. At home, listening to the pulsating F1 title track, I was transported back to the most exciting movie I had watched in recent times, with the Dolby Atmos effect really filling the virtual sphere around my head. With Apple's haptic trailer of the movie, I could feel haptic effects on my ears too as the Run for Podium track sped through the clip. The Tour Pro 3 is all about immersive experiences like this. With the equaliser in bass mode, the experience changes drastically with a booming effect embalming my head, which if you know me, is not my favourite way to enjoy music. I was soon back to the vocal mode and then discovered that the studio mode was actually better for numbers like this and Azizam. I would have liked the display on the charger to show me the name of the song that was playing. Now, it shows the home screen by default. You have to unlock this and move to the volume page to see the song title though it does show the battery available on each earphone as well as the case. But why not replace the home screen with album art? One issue I felt was that when walking with the earphones on, you feel your steps in your ears. I have felt this with some other noise-cancelling earphones too over the years. This takes some getting used to. Also, for some reason the device did not remember my iPhone and I had to go back to Bluetooth and connect all the time. The battery life is great and you can use this for close to a week with a full charge. I liked that wireless charging works smoothly on the JBL Tour Pro 3 and I could just plonk it on the charger I was using for my AirPods. At Rs 29,999, the JBL Tour Pro 3 is among the best-sounding truly wireless earphones you can buy and it certainly is the smartest. While you might feel the Smart Charging case is an expensive proposition you will start enjoying this smartscreen as much as you do the sound quality of the Tour Pro 3. Venture Capitalist Alleges Indian-origin Startup Founders Faked Ties With Tech Giants To Lure Investors

Ash Arora's claims of misconduct by two Indian-origin founders have sparked a social media debate on startup ethics. US-based venture capitalist Ash Arora has alleged serious misconduct by two Indian-origin startup founders, claiming they misrepresented their businesses to lure investors. These allegations have sparked both criticism and introspection across the startup community. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Arora, a partner at LocalGlobe and a Forbes 30 Under 30 (Europe Finance) listee, said, 'Have met two founders in SF this month. Both fraud: 1. Is subletting a rented apartment and showing that as revenue for his startup. 2. Is claiming Amazon and Google are clients who have signed LOIs when they have never even heard of them," she wrote. What truly lit the fuse, however, was Arora's follow-up remark, where she wrote, 'What's common among them? Both desi men. Beware of these people!" This characterisation quickly ignited debate online. While the underlying concern about startup ethics struck a chord with many, others took issue with her framing, accusing her of reinforcing stereotypes based on ethnicity. A sample of two. What's the point of including their race ?— bubble boi (@bubblebabyboi) July 8, 2025 Another user wrote, 'The 'desi men' part is a spicy take, but honestly, the patterns of fraud in SF are pretty universal. Desperation or greed, it always comes back to the same stuff." The 'desi men' part is a spicy take, but honestly, the patterns of fraud in SF are pretty universal. Desperation or greed, it always comes back to the same stuff.— Dan (@salinasdanielf) July 8, 2025 'Generalise a race off of a sample set of 2? Why would a brown male founder even want to take your money? Do better," read one of the comments. She clarified that her use of the term 'desi" was intended to subtly point to the individuals without directly naming them. 'It breaks my heart that Indians are doing this and ruining the reputation of my country," she replied to one of the comments. Because it breaks my heart that Indians are doing this and ruining the reputation of my country— Ash Arora (@asharoraa) July 8, 2025 The conversation escalated further when Arora revealed that a few investors reached out to her. '4 VCs have pinged me correctly guessing both these founder names. Is this Soham Parekh 2.0? We need a BS radar community out here," she wrote, referencing the now-infamous case of Soham Parekh, an engineer who was recently accused by Mixpanel co-founder Suhail Doshi of fabricating parts of his resume and misrepresenting his background. 4 VCs have pinged me correctly guessing both these founder namesIs this Soham Parekh 2.0? We need a BS radar community out here. — Ash Arora (@asharoraa) July 8, 2025 The timing of Arora's remarks, coming just days after Suhail Doshi publicly called out Soham Parekh, has further heightened scrutiny over how startup founders portray themselves and their ventures to investors. While the identities of the two founders remain unknown, the post has reignited concerns about ethical standards in startup culture, especially within Silicon Valley's competitive ecosystem. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
