Buriram keep Selangor guessing with 16 foreign stars
Buriram, nicknamed Thunder Castle, swept four titles last season, including the Thai League 1, FA Cup and League Cup, before adding the ACC crown.
Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi said his side are wary of Buriram's firepower but will stick to their style of play.
"We are honoured and proud to be here because we have the chance to face a strong team. Buriram are one of the strongest teams in the region," the Japanese coach said at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
"Last year, they scored 92 goals, conceded only 20 and collected 70 points in 30 league matches, which shows how strong they are offensively," he said.
"These kinds of challenges will definitely make us stronger. It is a good experience for us to go up against Buriram. They also have 16 foreigners in the squad, so we don't know exactly who will face us, but we are looking forward to it.
"We must keep our style and focus on our football."
After a 3-0 defeat to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the Charity Shield, Kinoshi's men bounced back with two consecutive wins — a 3-0 victory against DPMM in the Super League and a 3-1 win over Malaysian University in the FA Cup first-round first leg.
Kinoshi urged his players not to be intimidated by Buriram and to keep fighting until the final whistle.
"We must never give up and fight for the Selangor fans. This is our mission. We must play until the whistle — 100 per cent — regardless of whether the result is going well, badly or even worse. It doesn't matter," he said.

Eze and Guehi to start for Palace in Conference League playoff, says Glasner
LONDON: Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi will both start for Crystal Palace in their UEFA Conference League playoff first leg despite both being heavily linked with moves away from the London club. Forward Eze is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur while fellow England international Guehi has attracted strong interest from Premier League champions Liverpool. Both played in Palace's 0-0 draw at Chelsea in their opening Premier League game and manager Oliver Glasner has no qualms about playing them against Norway's Fredrikstad on Thursday. Eze scored the winner against Manchester City in the FA Cup final to seal Palace's first venture into Europe, albeit in the Conference League rather than the Europa League, and remains a popular figure in the dressing room and with the fans. "The player gives 100 per cent because he is under contract. We don't have to say thank you every day, he is getting a few pounds every week," Glasner told reporters on Wednesday. "Many of you were surprised he and Marc (Guehi) started against Chelsea, you may be surprised they start tomorrow, but they are committed to the team. "They will play a crucial part for as long as they are here they are committed to the team. If they leave, they want to leave as the guys who gave 100 per cent to Crystal Palace." Goalkeeper Dean Henderson also praised the attitude of his two teammates. "Great lads. They are still committed and professional. It showed in the Chelsea game. Both of them were phenomenal in that game," Henderson said. "They will stay committed throughout and be there to help the team. They are part of us at the minute and we will keep enjoying it." Palace's inaugural European campaign has been somewhat overshadowed after UEFA demoted them to the Conference League because of a breach of multi-club ownership rules. An appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport was dismissed last week, meaning the decision to promote Nottingham Forest to the Europa League was upheld. Glasner says Palace deserved to be in the Europa League, but that they will embrace Europe's third-tier club tournament. "It is the first time Euro football will be played at Selhurst (Park), this is our reward for winning the FA Cup and we will enjoy it," he said. "Many fans did not expect us to play European football, so this is our approach." — REUTERS

ASEAN Club Championship 2025/2026: Selangor Tied 1-1 With Buriram In Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- An injury-time goal by Buriram United's Peter Zulj dashed Selangor FC's dream of stealing three points when they drew 1-1 in Group A of the ASEAN Club Championship at Chang Arena, Thailand today. In the action, Selangor managed to open the score through their import player Chrigor Moraes in the 38th minute. Shocked by the goal, Buriram United tried to recover by launching several attacks on the Selangor defence but failed to produce any goals, thus seeing the Red Giants lead the first half 1-0.
