Levi Strauss raises FY25 outlook amid strong Q2 performance

Yahoo11-07-2025
Levi Strauss reported net revenues of $1.45bn during the quarter ending 1 June 2025, marking a 6% increase on a reported basis and a 9% rise on an organic basis compared to the same quarter in the previous year.
The Levi's brand itself experienced a 9% global increase on an organic basis.
In the earnings call, Michelle Gass, president and CEO of Levi Strauss & Co, highlighted the company "delivered another standout quarter exceeding expectations across sales, margins and EPS."
Gass attributed this success to "broad-based revenue growth across channels and categories" and "strong margin expansion," which she linked to the effective implementation of the company's strategic priorities.
Overview of Q2 FY25
In Q2, the most significant growth was observed in Europe, where net revenues soared by 14% on a reported basis.
In contrast, the Americas saw a more modest 5% increase in net revenues on a reported basis, while Asia's net revenues remained unchanged on both a reported and organic basis.
The company's net income from continuing operations surged to $80m from $17m in Q2 2024, which translate to diluted earnings per share (EPS) from continuing operations of $0.20 in Q2 FY25 against $0.04 during the same period last year.
The company's operating margin improved to 7.5% in Q2 FY25 from 1.5% in Q2 2024.
Gross margin saw an increase of 140 basis points to 62.6%, primarily due to reduced product costs and a more favourable channel mix.
Levi Strauss' selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses also rose to $791m in Q2 FY25 from $756m in Q2 2024. Adjusted SG&A expenses accounted for 54.4% as a percentage of sales, improving by 50 basis points over the previous year.
The company reported an 11% rise in direct-to-consumer (DTC) net revenues, with a comparable organic increase of 10%.
E-commerce net revenues also saw a 13% growth, both on a reported and organic basis. During the second quarter, DTC sales accounted for half of the total net revenues.
In April this year, Levi Strauss & Co expanded its DTC reach by introducing its Red Tab loyalty initiative to four more European markets.
Overview of H1 FY25
In the first half of the fiscal, Levi Strauss's revenue grew by 5%, reaching $2.97bn on a reported basis for the first half of the fiscal year.
Net income from continuing operations reached $220m compared to just $7m in H1 FY24, with diluted earnings per share from continuing operations increasing to $0.55 from $0.02.
Outlook
The 2025 guidance is based on ongoing operations and accounts for the Dockers brand being classified under discontinued operations.
The projections are made under the assumption that US tariffs on imports from China will persist at 30%, and tariffs for the rest of the world will maintain at 10% for the remainder of the year, said the company.
Levi Strauss raised its net revenue growth forecast by three percentage points: now expecting an increase of 1% to 2%, as opposed to an anticipated decline of 1% to 2%.
Gross margin expansion expectations have been adjusted slightly to an increase of 80 basis points due to a tariff impact of 20 basis points after mitigation strategies are applied.
Adjusted diluted EPS for the full year has been raised by $0.05: now projected at $1.25 to $1.30, up from the previous range of $1.20 to $1.25.
Commenting on the latest update, Chloe Collins, head of apparel at GlobalData said Levi Strauss "proved its resilience in Q2".
"The brand has been supported by the current popularity of Western fashion, as well as its partnership with Beyonce, with fans of the singer likely turning to the brand for outfits for her Cowboy Carter tour. This likely had a particular impact in Europe, which witnessed an impressive turnaround in Q2.
"The brand also saw improved consumer confidence in some markets [of Europe] as well as the rollout of its Red Tab loyalty program to markets such as Poland, Ireland and Denmark, strengthening its direct-to-consumer proposition.
"Asia showed the opposite trend, with sales down 0.8% in Q2 after growing 6.6% in Q1, which could be due to some anti-Americanism among consumers in countries that have been hit with high US tariffs, with Levi's particularly exposed to this drop in sentiment due to its strong US heritage.
"In its home region, the Americas, sales growth only softened slightly at 5.1% versus 6.4% in Q1, with many shoppers bringing purchases forward before tariff price rises hit down. The brand clearly anticipates a slowdown in the second half as this happens."

On raises full-year outlook, shrugs off tariff impact

This story was originally published on Retail Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Retail Dive newsletter. Dive Brief: Led by direct-to-consumer growth, On's second quarter net sales increased 32% year over year to 749.2 million Swiss francs (about $928 million at press time), according to a company press release Tuesday. The athletics brand swung from a net income of 30.8 million Swiss francs the year before to a loss of 40.9 million Swiss francs. DTC sales increased 47.2% while wholesale jumped over 23%, per the release. On raised its full-year guidance, now expecting net sales to grow 31% year over year on a constant currency basis instead of the previously anticipated 28% increase. Additionally, the brand raised its gross profit margin projection to a 60.5% to 61% range instead of its previously lowered range of 60% to 60.5%. Dive Insight: While acknowledging an uncertain macroeconomic outlook due to U.S. trade policy shifts, On's executives remained confident in the brand's ability to meet high expectations. 'We have not even spoken to retail or factory partners about mitigation efforts,' On CEO and CFO Martin Hoffmann told analysts on a call Tuesday. 'We haven't needed it yet.' The executive noted that heightened import costs aren't desirable, but tariff rates aren't new to the international brand. On already worked with tariff rates on imports to the U.S. from various Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, which made up about 90% of its footwear production for the six months ending June 30, per the brand's filing. The Swiss brand's larger Q2 obstacle was currency exchange rates as the U.S. dollar weakened compared to the Swiss franc, contributing to On's net loss. 'As expected, currency shifts created significant noise on the print, including a sizable spread between reported and constant-currency sales as well as a CHF 140 million currency translation loss that flowed through to a reported net loss,' William Blair analysts said in a Tuesday note shared with Retail Dive. 'The sales beat was significant enough net of the currency impact that we believe the Street is more inclined to look through the implications of a stronger franc.' On's premium positioning continues to be a component of its overall strength, executives noted. The brand implemented select price increases in the U.S. in July and doesn't expect the need for additional increases to reach its projected margin targets (though macroeconomic changes can alter that perspective), Hoffmann added. Looking forward, continued momentum in On's apparel category will further expose the brand to a broader audience, executives said on the call. Shoes continue to be the largest category for the brand with a nearly 30% Q2 net sales increase. However, apparel grew 67.5% to 36.7 million Swiss francs and accessories jumped 133.3% to 7.7 million Swiss francs, per On's filing. Apparel now makes up 4.9% of net sales, up from 3.9% the year prior. Veteran analyst says Tesla Stock's breakout rides on one key level

Veteran analyst says Tesla Stock's breakout rides on one key level originally appeared on TheStreet. Popular Fundstrat technical strategist Mark Newton feels Tesla's next big move hinges on a single chart line. According to him, Tesla () stock's chart is flashing a make-or-break signal, a level that's likely to determine where it ends up, at least in the near term. It's all about whether the bulls keep control or cede the upper hand to the bears, who've been the louder of the two this year. Momentum has been improving of late, but Newton's read is mostly straightforward. 💵💰💰💵 He feels that if investors respect this threshold, it opens the door for substantial upside potential, but if they fail, the trend risks rolling over. No matter which side you're on, that key level is worth watching closely this week. Falling deliveries and margin squeeze define Tesla's 2025 so far The first half of 2025 for Tesla has been mostly about dropping delivery numbers and dwindling profitability, pressuring its core automotive business. In Q1, deliveries dropped roughly 13% year over year, the steepest fall in roughly three years. A big part of that is Tesla navigating an aging car lineup, the Model Y plant overhaul, and a consumer backlash tied to Elon Musk's political decline got even worse in Q2, with global deliveries tanking 13.5% year over year, missing Street forecasts by a wide margin. Weakness in Europe and growing competition in China were major drags. Margins took a hit as well. Operating income plummeted a massive 42% from a year earlier, on the back of price cuts and incentives squeezing its bottom line compared with prior periods. On top of that, July registrations across major European markets were mostly soft, linked to ongoing regulatory hiccups and rival model launches, making things even more complicated. The net effect is that Tesla's near-term growth story has moved away from volume gains and is more about its potential long-term breakthroughs in autonomy and ride-hailing. Fundstrat's Newton: Tesla breakout hinges on $338 level Tesla shares are at the cusp of a critical chart point, according to Fundstrat technical strategist Mark Newton. His setup is simple. A daily close above the $338 mark will potentially open the door toward $368, while $300 remains a critical medium-term support level. At this point, Tesla stock is now trading near the $339 mark, which is just above Newton's breakout trigger. The question remains of whether it can hold that gain into the close and turn $338 from resistance into to Newton, if buyers effectively defend the level, the path to $368 is technically clear. Momentum levels have improved, and clean breakouts typically garner trend-following traders and short-covering from those bearish on the stock's moves. Typically, the first move following a key breakout is a retest of the pivot. That's basically a snapback toward $338, which effectively stabilizes and is constructive. For risk management, Newton feels that $300 is the 'line in the sand' for bulls. A decisive drop below that level may indicate that the rally is mostly just corrective rather than the start of a move higher. The bottom line is that a close above $338 keeps $368 in play. A snapback would argue for greater patience, with brighter buying spots closer to $338 on a successful retest or down near $300 if we see stronger momentum. Tesla's Texas Robotaxi license fuels stock pop Tesla stock is up almost 10% this week, and that rally has everything to do with Tesla's tangible steps in advancing its Robotaxi ambitions, along with encouraging demand signals. The headline move is Texas officially listing Tesla Robotaxi LLC as a Transportation Network Company (TNC). To put it simply, Tesla now has the legal right to operate a ride-hailing service statewide, just like Uber or Lyft. At the same time, it's working towards getting separate approvals for a fully driverless service. More News: Tesla just got its biggest break yet in the robotaxi wars with a key permit Bank of America drops shocking price target on hot weight-loss stock post-earnings JPMorgan drops 3-word verdict on Amazon stock post-earnings Under Texas's new SB 2807 framework, effective Sept. 1, fully autonomous operations need an additional DMV sign-off beyond the TNC license. In short, Tesla has the go-ahead for a driver-based rideshare network at this point, but also has a clear regulatory lane to scale automation later. On top of that, there's a small bump in demand for optics. Reports suggest that Model Y wait times have stretched to four to six weeks, a stark reversal from earlier in the summer. Though that metric isn't exactly gospel, longer waits initiate at tightening near-term deliveries. Taken together, the narrative for Tesla seems a lot cleaner. Tesla could potentially monetize ride-hailing sooner while working toward full autonomy, delivering the Robotaxi service as advertised over the past several analyst says Tesla Stock's breakout rides on one key level first appeared on TheStreet on Aug 12, 2025 This story was originally reported by TheStreet on Aug 12, 2025, where it first appeared.
