Moose Wala's 3rd death anniversary dedicated to Pahalgam victims
The family of slain Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moose Wala, marked his third death anniversary on Thursday by dedicating the occasion to the victims of the recent Pahalgam attack. A large gathering of fans and supporters assembled at his native village Musa in Punjab's Mansa district to pay tribute.
Moose Wala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Jawahar Ke village in Mansa, just a day after his security was scaled down. The murder was allegedly plotted by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, currently in jail, and his Canada-based associate Goldy Brar, who remains a fugitive. The case remains under investigation, with key masterminds yet to be brought to justice.
Addressing the gathering, Moose Wala's father Balkaur Singh thanked the public for continuing to honour his son's legacy but voiced deep anguish over the lack of justice in the high-profile murder case.
'We stand with all innocent people who have lost their lives unjustly, whether in Pahalgam or elsewhere. Today's barsi is a tribute to them too,' said Balkaur.
Balkaur raises safety concerns for his one-year-old son
Raising serious concerns, Balkaur claimed he had been warned by certain officials about a threat to his one-year-old son, though he did not provide specific details. He also accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government of failing to deliver justice and deliberately neglecting the family's pleas.
'My wife and I tried several times to meet chief minister Bhagwant Mann. He didn't even grant us a meeting. We had hoped that the artist-MLAs elected by AAP would stand by Sidhu's family, but none of them even spoke to us,' he said.
He further alleged that the family was being targeted due to their identity. 'I feel we are being punished for being Sikhs,' he added.
Balkaur also slammed the BJP-led Union government, claiming that Punjabis, particularly Sikhs, are being singled out and harassed. 'I met Union home minister Amit Shah seeking justice for my son, but we received no support. Our life has been reduced to daily suffering,' he said.
Moose Wala's father vows to contest 2027 elections
Balkaur Singh, who is associated with the Congress, has announced his intention to contest the 2027 Punjab assembly elections to continue the fight for justice. However, he has yet to reveal which seat he plans to contest.
In 2022, Sidhu Moose Wala had unsuccessfully contested the Mansa seat on a Congress ticket, losing by a significant margin. Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Balkaur was considered a contender for the Bathinda seat, but the Congress fielded Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, who lost to incumbent MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Colombia retracts statement on Pak, backs India after Tharoor's disapproval
Colombia has officially withdrawn its statement expressing condolences over deaths in Pakistan following India's Operation Sindoor, after strong disapproval from Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading an all-party delegation to the South American country. The Colombian government will now issue a new statement that aligns more closely with India's position on counterterrorism. "The Vice Minister very graciously mentioned that they have withdrawn the statement that we had expressed concern about, and that they fully understand our position on the matter which we really value," Tharoor told reporters, standing alongside Colombia's Vice Foreign Minister, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio. Villavicencio affirmed Colombia's renewed understanding: "We are very confident that with the explanation that we received today and the detailed information that we now have regarding the real situation, the conflict, and what happened in Kashmir, we can also continue the dialogue and be aware of what is happening." 'No equivalence between terrorists and victims': Tharoor "We're very pleased to learn that that statement has been withdrawn as you've also mentioned, and we are also very pleased that you, as representatives of the people of Colombia, are determined to stand with us for our sovereignty, for peace in the world, for peace in the subcontinent of India and that you are very, very happy that this kind of dialogue will continue between our peoples and our representatives," he said. Delegation's efforts in Colombia Former Indian Ambassador to the United States and BJP leader Taranjit Singh Sandhu credited the delegation's detailed explanations for Colombia's shift. "This morning we had a detailed interaction with the acting Foreign Minister and our leader and the entire team made specific points to them explaining to them the timeline which perhaps to an extent they might have missed out," Sandhu told news agency ANI. Sandhu also noted Colombia's growing importance as it is set to become a member of the UN Security Council soon. Operation Sindoor The delegation's outreach follows the Pahalgam attack on April 22, in which 26 civilians were killed in a terrorist attack claimed by The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot based in Pakistan. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a counterterrorism measure. Tharoor underscored that India's actions were an exercise of its right to self-defence, drawing parallels with Colombia's own struggles with terrorism. "Just as Colombia has endured many terror attacks, so have we in India. We have endured a very large number of attacks for almost four decades," he said. Multi-party outreach mission The Tharoor-led delegation, which includes lawmakers from across the political spectrum — Sarfraz Ahmad (JMM), G M Harish Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena), Tejasvi Surya (BJP) — arrived in Colombia after visiting Panama and Guyana. Their itinerary in Bogota features meetings with Members of Congress, ministers, think tanks, and media representatives. This delegation is one of seven multi-party groups tasked by India to explain Operation Sindoor to 33 countries following the terror attack. India-Pakistan tensions Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply after the Pahalgam attack. India conducted precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan responded with attempts to target Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The hostilities de-escalated after talks between both sides' Directors General of Military Operations on May 10, leading to an agreement to halt military actions.

BJP core committee decides to fight against ‘goonda' Cong govt
Bengaluru: BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Thursday said that the party's state core committee has decided to fight against the 'goonda' Congress government and its policies vociferously on the streets, as he accused it of targeting party leaders and right wing activists. He said the party also discussed strengthening the organisation and the state-wide tour of leaders to prepare the ground for taluk and zilla panchayat polls. The state chief was briefing about the Karnataka BJP core committee meeting today that was attended by former Chief Ministers B S Yediyurappa, Sadananada Gowda, Basavaraj Bommai, party's state in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Radhamohan Das Agrawal, co-in-charge Sudhakar Reddy, among others. 'The Congress government in Karnataka is intoxicated by power. BJP karyakartas are being targeted. Suhas Shetty (Hindutva activist) was murdered in Mangaluru. Also there was arrest of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader as part of a conspiracy. The Congress goondas have shown their goonda behaviour against the Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council and the Dalit Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy in Kalaburagi,' Vijayendra said. Speaking to reporters here, he said despite BJP MLC and opposition chief whip N Ravikumar expressing regret over his certain remarks, a FIR has been registered against him, based on a complaint by a third party, aimed at defaming him at the behest of the Congress government. 'The BJP has decided that it will not budge to such things and to fight vociferously on the streets against the goonda Congress government, which is anti-poor, anti-farmer and corrupt, by instilling confidence among party workers and leaders,' he said, adding that the fight will happen on a continuous basis and announcements will be made accordingly in the days ahead. Responding to a question, the state president further said there is no confusion among leaders in the BJP and all are united in fighting against the corrupt Congress government. 'The goal ahead of us is to fight on the streets against this anti-people, corrupt, goonda Congress government,' he said. The core committee discussed organisational matters, how to strengthen it, and travel across the state in the wake of upcoming zilla and taluk panchayat polls and others, Vijayendra said. Noting that disciplinary action taken against MLAs Basangaouda Patil Yatnal, S T Somashekar and Shivaram Hebbar by expelling them from the party for six years based on the recommendation of the state core committee, he said, 'We thank the party's national leadership for it.' The core committee also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces for the action against terrorists and Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 tourists were killed, he added. Vijayendra said on the advice of the core committee, a team composed of a few of its members, legislators, former legislators, will be sent to all divisions in view of organisation and upcoming local polls. Regarding constituting a coordination committee for proper coordination with alliance partner JD(S), Vijayendra said there is coordination already, and regarding formation of any committee for it, both party leaders will discuss and decide.

Following a meeting with MP Alejandro Toro, President of the Second Commission of the Chamber of Representatives, Tharoor said, 'There is no equivalence possible between terrorists on the one hand and innocent civilians on the other. There is no equivalence between those who attack our country and those who defend their own country, and our only disappointment with the earlier statement by Colombia was that it seemed to have overlooked this difference.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD What had Tharoor said earlier? At a media briefing in this Colombian capital city on Thursday, Tharoor elaborated India's position on terrorism, spoke about Operation Sindoor and expressed disappointment over Colombia's response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
