Bhatti explained that the Solar Energy Corporation of India had initially identified renewable energy zones with 13.5 GW capacity in five Telangana districts for generating power from wind, solar, and pumped storage projects. After consultations with SECI and TGRedco, and factoring in land availability and potential, this was revised to 19 GW across eight districts.
TG Transco submitted a proposal to the Central Electricity Authority for eight transmission schemes with a cumulative evacuation capacity of 19 GW, at an estimated cost of ₹6,895 crore.

Chicalim, Bastora among five p'yats offering online services
Panaji: Five of the state's 191 village panchayats have begun offering various services online. Following panchayat minister Mauvin Godinho's announcement last month, the panchayats of Chichalim, Batim, Alorna, Bastora, and Casarvarnem went online from Aug 1 as part of phase 1. Director of panchayats, Siddhi Halarnkar, said nine services are presently being offered online by these panchayats, but house tax payment is not one of them. 'It will be rolled out in phase II within the next six months. We are working on offering it earlier than the deadline,' said Halarnkar. The director further said that the residents of these five villages can now avail documents such as character certificates, income certificates, and residence certificates without having to visit the panchayat office. Online services are a part of Goa govt's digitisation drive to reduce paperwork and ensure faster delivery of services to the public. The response, the director said, has been positive, with demands that other panchayats go online in providing services without further delay. 'We haven't received any negative feedback so far,' Halarnkar said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Margao chief officer targets Rs 10 crore recovery
Margao: Newly appointed chief officer of Margao Municipal Council (MMC), Madhu Narvekar, has made revenue recovery his top priority to tackle MMC's financial crisis. Narvekar aims to recover Rs 10 crore in six months from the council's Rs 35-crore dues. Narvekar, who assumed charge last month, acted swiftly to address the MMC's financial crisis to meet its basic obligations, including monthly staff salaries of Rs 2.5 crore. 'The target is achievable through planning and consistent monitoring,' he said. 'We have developed a strategy to target defaulters systematically. The performance of our recovery team will be monitored regularly to ensure objectives are met. ' Narvekar constituted a dedicated team to spearhead the drive. The recovery exercise begins with a Rs 20 lakh weekly target, which will be enhanced based on the results. 'We will tweak our strategy based on results, but I am confident we can recover at least Rs 10 crore within the next six months through constant monitoring and meticulous planning,' Narvekar said. He also identified significant revenue leakage from unlicensed businesses and issues related to the subletting of premises, including shops in municipal markets. According to observers, earlier revenue recovery attempts faced challenges due to political interference, poor implementation, and failure to bring unassessed properties into the tax net, with 40–50% of Margao traders lacking valid licences. Karnataka high court rejects I-T appeal against Sony India Software Centre
Bengaluru: Karnataka high court has dismissed an appeal filed by the income tax (I-T) department against Sony India Software Centre Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, in a case involving tax treatment of free assets and foreign consultancy payments. The appeal challenged a June 12, 2024 order of the I-T commissioner (appeals), Bengaluru, which had partly allowed the company's challenge to its assessment for the financial year 2016-17 (assessment year 2017-18). That order was later upheld by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), Bengaluru, on Dec 13, 2024. At the centre of the dispute were two additions made by the assessing officer. The first, of more than Rs 1.4 crore, concerned assets received by the company from its overseas associated enterprises without cost. The second, a disallowance of nearly Rs 9.6 lakh, related to payments made to Singapore-based JL Services and Consultancy for employee workshops, allegedly without deduction of tax at source (TDS). You Can Also Check: Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru | Gold Rates Today in Bengaluru | Silver Rates Today in Bengaluru Sony India Software Centre had declared an income of Rs 40.1 crore under "profits and gains from business" and "income from other sources" in its AY 2017-18 return. The assessing officer increased this to Rs 44.8 crore by adding the value of the assets and disallowing the consultancy fee. The company argued that the assets were prototypes supplied solely for testing and were not income under Section 28(iv) of the Income Tax Act. It also maintained that the payments to the Singapore firm were for independent personal services and were exempt from TDS under the India–Singapore Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA). The CIT(A) accepted both arguments. It ruled that the fixed asset addition was unwarranted as the assets were covered under an Advance Pricing Agreement and depreciation had been factored in. The I-T department contended that the workshops did involve technical services and that TDS should have been deducted under Section 195. A division bench of Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Joshi rejected this view, noting there was no dispute that the free assets were returned and that the workshops were general training sessions for staff, without transfer of technical know-how. Finding no grounds to interfere, the court upheld the earlier orders and dismissed the appeal. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
