The bus unions, though, said they are seeking a meeting with the DCP in this regard.While several minibuses on the route stopped services in protest since Tuesday, partial normalcy returned to the route on Wednesday, with 22 of the 40 buses plying. The Sealdah Traffic Guard, whose officer was allegedly involved, said an investigation was initiated. "While it is clear that there was a confrontation between the sergeant and the conductor, the allegations of assault are still not clear from the footage we have analysed so far," said an officer.The incident was reported around 10.20 am on Tuesday when the minibus was headed to Howrah from Tangra. Opposite the Sealdah departmental store, the bus slowed down to pick up passengers. The police claimed this blocked traffic coming out of Sealdah station complex, as well as those coming from Beliaghata. This reportedly infuriated the sergeant on duty, who summoned the conductor. Though the video released is inconclusive, the conductor is seen nursing a swollen knee at the end of the encounter."The conductor, Sunil Thakur, has been attached to this route for the past 16 years. He was merely doing his job. If indeed traffic laws were broken, the sergeant could have detained the bus and prosecuted the driver. What was the need to assault our conductor? When we took the conductor to the doctor, the sergeant, Sovanlal Mukherjee, refused to apologise and said he was within his limits to do whatever he did," claimed Sandip Sengupta, the Tangra minibus route secretary.The incident led to a wave of protest with bus enthusiast groups, besides the bus union groups, sharing the footage. "We have held talks and decided to lodge a complaint with both Entally police station and the Sealdah traffic guard. We want a time-bound action," said Tapan Banerjee of the Joint Council of Bus Syndicate.Last month, Lalbazar had "closed" a cop from Bansdroni Police for allegedly slapping an app-bike driver who showed his bike documents on Digilocker instead of the hard copies. The Kolkata Police headquarters also launched another investigation aimed at ascertaining the role of two constables, now posted at Patuli Police Station, for allegedly misbehaving with a social media content creator who challenged one of the cops for not wearing a helmet.

Tailor who kidnapped, murdered 8-year-old held after 26 years in Delhi
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) A man convicted of kidnapping and murdering an eight-year-old boy in 1993 has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police after evading law for over 26 years, an official said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Raj Kishore (55) alias Bade Lalla, a resident of Kanpur Dehat in Uttar Pradesh, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1996 for the brutal murder of a businessman's son. 'He was later granted a six-week parole by the Delhi High Court in 1999 but he never returned to prison," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said. The officer further mentioned that after several years of evasion and being declared a proclaimed offender in 2014, Kishore was finally apprehended from Ghaziabad's Khoda Colony on August 2. According to the police, the incident occurred on December 28, 1993, when Kishore and his associate abducted the son of a garment factory owner from Kalyanpuri. The accused then demanded a ransom of Rs 30,000 from the child's father, promising the boy's safe return. However, after receiving the money, the accused strangled the child and dumped his body in a drain in the Kalyanpuri area, the police said. 'The case was registered at the Kalyanpuri Police Station. Following investigation and trial, Raj Kishore was convicted and sentenced to life by the Karkardooma Sessions Court in 1996," said the DCP. Kishore was lodged in Tihar jail when he jumped parole in 1999, following which he kept changing his location to evade arrest. He stayed in Patna for four years, lived in Jaipur for nearly 13 years, and then shifted to Barnala in Punjab for another three years. During this time, he worked odd jobs and kept a low profile, occasionally visiting his native village in Kanpur Dehat, the police said. 'It was only during the COVID-19 pandemic that he returned to Kanpur permanently and started a tailoring business under a new identity," the DCP added. The officer further mentioned that a crime branch team was tasked to track down parole jumpers involved in heinous crimes. The team gathered information about Kishore's presence in Kanpur. Several attempts were made to nab him in Kanpur, but local support helped him escape each time. 'After strategic planning, the police managed to lure him out of his hideout and arrested him in Ghaziabad," the officer added. The arrest came after a two-month-long operation involving over 10 personnel, the police said, noting that Kishore's associate in the 1993 crime had already completed his sentence. Three students arrested for role in Rs 6.5 lakh digital arrest
HYDERABAD: Cybercrime police on Saturday arrested three students from Secunderabad for their alleged involvement in a digital arrest fraud case. Police said the accused, addicted to online gaming, had lost money and agreed to supply bank accounts to unknown individuals via WhatsApp in exchange for commissions. They provided over 40 bank accounts online, which were later used in cyber frauds. The case came to light when a 57-year-old government employee from Dhoolpet reported receiving a call in January from a fraudster posing as a DCP, alleging his Aadhaar card was used to open a Bank of Baroda account involved in a Rs 2 crore money laundering case. The caller claimed a warrant had been issued and instructed the victim to share his savings details and deposit money to resolve the matter. Fearing arrest, the victim transferred `6.50 lakh to the given accounts before realising it was a scam and approaching the police. Investigations revealed the accused were involved in 23 similar cases across India.

Delhi horror: Out on bail in rape case, man shoots survivor dead; tracked her for 2-3 days

Reportedly angered by the complaint, the duo attacked her inside an autorickshaw as she was returning home from work. Both men have been arrested and a case of attempted murder registered. Police said the accused, Abuzair Safi, was arrested in the rape case last year and released on interim bail last month. Safi had been trying to contact her but she did not respond. Safi then decided to attack her along with his aide, Aman Shukla, police said. Police got a PCR call around 9.49pm on July 30 regarding a shooting near the Poorvi Marg red light. A team from the police station found an auto-rickshaw parked at the scene. "The driver, Ranjeet Yadav, informed us that a woman passenger had suffered a gunshot injury and had been already taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by a PCR van," police said. At AIIMS, the victim was found to be conscious and medically stable. She told police that while she was going home from work in an auto and speaking on the phone, two persons on a black motorcycle approached from behind. One of them - Abuzair Safi, a resident of Okhla Vihar - who was driving the bike, fired at her, injuring her. A case of attempted murder has been registered in Vasant Vihar police station. "Through meticulous CCTV analysis, social media tracking and technical surveillance, the accused were identified as Abuzair Safi and his associate, Aman Sukhla," deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Amit Goel said. During the investigation, Sukhla was arrested and the motorcycle used in the crime was seized. A subsequent operation led to the arrest of Safi, the shooter. A country-made pistol used in the attack was also found. Both accused are now in custody. "It is noteworthy that the victim is also the complainant in a rape case registered at Malviya Nagar police station, in which Abuzair Safi is also named. The possible connection between the two cases and the motive behind the attack is currently under investigation," the DCP added.
