Scotland's first ever festival for dogs featuring music, art and dog-themed tarot readings
'I wanted to create a day that celebrates the special bond we have with our dogs — while also being fun, inspiring and inclusive for all dog lovers, whether they have a pup or not."
Scots will be able to enjoy the country's first ever festival for dogs and dog lovers, which will be staged this summer.
Barklove 2025 is the brainchild of dog lover and music publicist Jenn Nimmo-Smith who will stage the indoor and outdoor festival at the SWG3 venue complex in Glasgow.
Her festival for dogs, and also dog lovers, will also feature music as well as dog-themed art and even dog-themed tarot card readings.
The festival, which is being held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, has a full canine-themed program of events taking place throughout the day. However, Barklove founder Jenn is keen to stress that people who don't own dogs are also welcome.
Jenn said: 'I've had a lifelong love of dogs. We grew up with a springer spaniel. Dogs have always played a prominent role in my life. And then when my dad was sick, we got Scout who is a golden retriever.
'When my dad passed away I found all these old photos and realised that when he was growing up he had a golden retriever as well.
'So there have been all these mental health benefits to having a dog. Scout has been a total lifesaver.
'Scout has been great and she gets me up and out every day, taking her for walks, coming home every day to someone who has this unbridled love for you
'It's unparalleled, and you get to meet a lot of people in your local community. I could tell you the name of every dog in Govan, maybe not the owners, but definitely, definitely their dogs.
'It's brought a great sense of community in terms of connection with the local area.
'I've always wanted to do a music festival and I work in PR. I've always had a really lifelong love of events running alongside my lifelong love of dogs. So I thought, why not combine the two?
'And I came up with the idea for Barklove and it grew arms and legs and paws.'
Even if people don't have a dog of their own, Jenn says there will be a chance to get up close with therapy dogs and enjoy the atmosphere of a family and dog friendly day out.
Taking over the full of Glasgow's SWG3 complex, the festival will feature a packed day of feel-good experiences, from DJ sets and dog care demos to wellbeing sessions, tasty food stalls, and creative activities.
Highlights include the lighthearted Barklove Fun Dog Show, where attendees will be invited to get involved by voting for their favourites across a mix of fun, feel-good categories.
Bearsden Dog Training club will host a fun agility area while Barkworks is a hands-on art space created in collaboration with Yardworks, where both dogs and humans can get stuck into making dog-themed art.
Stylish dog gear, luxury hand baked treats, lifestyle finds, and a dog-friendly campervan will also be on site as well as therapy dogs.
Paws & Reset classes led by Fi Duffy of Scottish Canine Wellness will offer a pause, or should that be paws, in the day for both dogs and their guardians.
Tarot by Peachy will offer dog-themed tarot readings.
Jenn said: 'Combining my lifelong love of dogs with my background in events, Barklove is something I've dreamed of bringing to life for a long time.
'SWG3 have such a great creative space. It's an iconic space that is one of the most creative venues in Scotland. I've worked closely with them before, and I knew that it was like the perfect setting to bring something like Barklove to life in terms of having it indoors and a mix of outdoors.
'I wanted to create a day that celebrates the special bond we have with our dogs — while also being fun, inspiring and inclusive for all dog lovers, whether they have a pup or not.
'Scout will be on the guest list. She is the official mascot. I don't know how she'll feel about me with all these other dogs.
'Barklove is celebration of the joy and connection that dogs bring into our lives, inspired by my lifelong love with them and what they mean to me.
'I really set out to create something fun, welcoming, a little bit different. It's not just for dogs and dog owners, but for anyone who loves being around dogs.
'So it's a chance to spend quality time with your dog, connect with other like minded people, other dog lovers also discover really local businesses.
'I can't wait to welcome everyone to SWG3 this summer for the very first edition.'

Scottish towns where most couples fly to Vegas to get married as full list revealed
From Elvis to Halloween or Star Trek themes, here's a look at the numbers behind Scots saying "I do" on the Vegas Strip. Las Vegas remains a top choice for Scottish couples eager to say "I do," whether they prefer the charm of Elvis officiants or the spectacle of the Bellagio Fountains. New research from reveals that residents of smaller and medium-sized Scottish towns are more likely to jet off to the 'Marriage Capital of the World' to tie the knot and create lasting memories. Bathgate in West Lothian leads the way, boasting the highest rate of Vegas weddings with 93.22 marriages per 100,000 people over the past decade. It is followed closely by Motherwell with 90.82 marriages per 100,000 and Wishaw at 66.2 per 100,000, Scottish Daily Express reports. A spokesman for explained, 'This figure puts Bathgate ahead of larger cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. "While larger cities like London and Manchester account for higher total numbers of Las Vegas weddings (1,923 and 642, respectively), the per capita data reveals which smaller towns are proportionally more inclined to elope in America's marriage capital.' The study, conducted by the world's leading guide for online casinos, analysed ten years of marriage licence records from Clark County to uncover which British towns and cities have been heading to Las Vegas for their big day and celebration. Between 2015 and 2024, 2,660 Scottish couples married in Vegas, though numbers dropped sharply during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021. Still, a few determined couples managed to make the trip despite the significant challenges and restrictions. Top Ten Bathgate – 93.22 marriages per 100,000 Motherwell - 90.82 Wishaw - 66.2 Kilmarnock - 61.22 Perth - 59.13 Dumfries - 57.4 Irvine - 56.38 Dunfermline - 53.71 Aberdeen - 53.12 Dundee - 52.81 Millennials and Generation X make up the majority of these wedding parties, while around one in four couples tying the knot in Vegas were not first-time newlyweds. September stands out as the most popular month for Scots to marry in the gambling mecca. Las Vegas earned its nickname as the 'Marriage Capital of the World' back in the 1950s, thanks to its simple marriage licence process and relatively low costs involved, making it an accessible and popular choice. Most wedding chapels cluster on or near the famous Las Vegas Strip, often featuring Elvis Presley impersonators as officiants. Couples can also opt for unique and fun themes like Hawaiian, Fairy Tale, Star Trek, Star Wars, Gothic, Halloween, or even ceremonies officiated by a Michael Jackson impersonator. Self-proclaimed ‘weirdo' Russell Martin in focus including Rangers boss' famous girlfriend & unique outlook on life
NEW Rangers manager Russell Martin has admitted he's a 'weirdo' in the footie world. As a vegan Buddhist and fully paid up member of the Green Party, it's fair to say that the former Scotland international isn't your typical grunting gaffer. 8 Russell Martin has been presented as the new Rangers manager Credit: Willie Vass 8 Martin and Lucy Pinder went public with their relationship last year Credit: Instagram / @pinderpix 8 Lucy earned legions of fans during her time as a glamour model Credit: PA:Press Association The 39-year-old also dates former lads mag pin-up Lucy Pinder, 41, swims in the sea and uses a cryotherapy chamber near his home. But despite being labelled the sport's most 'woke' boss, the retired defender actually endured a brutal upbringing. The second youngest of four brothers, Martin grew up in the Hollingbury area of Brighton and watched as his late Scots dad Dean was violent towards mum Kerry and had stints in prison. His family home was lost to his gambling debts — and he moved them next door to a bookies. In a recent podcast interview with footy legend Gary Lineker, Martin said: 'There was too much violence and it became a bit normal. From my dad to my mum. I witnessed a lot of it. A lot of my childhood was spent trying to placate the adults in my life. 'The problem with my dad was he had the capability to be amazing and really likeable but the gap between him at his best and worst was too big. 'And he was a big gambler so the day depended on how he did at the bookies and he worked nights on the taxis so you couldn't make a sound in the morning so it was eggshells a lot of the time and I spent a lot of time kicking the ball against the bookies' wall. 'My dad was great in some ways but I'd never do with my kids what he did with me.' Martin was forced to leave his troubled dad behind and look after his mum when they moved out to escape the violence at home. Despite the early trauma, he excelled at school where he was made head boy. And even after a string of top clubs rejected the budding footballer, he joined non-league side Lewes and cleaned windows and pub toilets in the mornings with his uncle and did shifts at a Spar supermarket across the road in the evenings to make some spare cash. Premier League boss Russell Martin has found love with former glamour model Lucy Pinder He got his break under Arsenal legend Tony Adams, 58, at Wycombe before moving on to Peterborough and Norwich — whose manager at the time, Celtic hero Paul Lambert, 55, has been a huge influence on his career. During this time the Scots stopper married bodybuilder Jasmine Martin and the pair had three children before splitting in 2023. Martin, who also enjoyed brief stints with Walsall, MK Dons and even Rangers in 2018, gave up meat and turned vegan for health reasons after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. He was part-owner of a vegan restaurant and later practiced meditation and breath work as he embraced Buddhism after finding religion through a book called 'The Buddha, Geoff and Me' by Edward Canfor-Dumas. Meanwhile, he revealed he'd joined the Green Party in 2018 after growing disillusioned with politics. But it probably wasn't a surprise to his then Norwich teammates - as Martin often implored them to turn the taps off and think about climate change. He also drives electric cars, is obsessive about recycling and started his own foundation which has grown from a football academy to a charity that helps kids struggling in mainstream school. The philanthropist once said: 'I'm probably deemed a bit of a weirdo in terms of football. But, to be honest, I'm past the point of worrying what others think. 'It's not like: 'Is it going to harm my employment opportunities because of where I vote and what I stand for?' If it did, I wouldn't want to work for those people anyway.' Martin was preparing for his coaching career during his playing days — studying for his coaching badges at age 22, and going for his Uefa Pro Licence at the Scottish FA in 2019. He enjoyed successful spells in charge of MK Dons and Swansea City before his honeymoon period at Southampton — they were promoted to the English Premier League — came crashing down when they were relegated and he was sacked. The heartbreaking end to his top flight stint wasn't a surprise after a 5-0 loss - but it could have been handled better. Martin said: 'I went in thinking that time was done. I needed to go to the toilet and compose myself before doing the team talk. So I went in and said to the lads at half-time, 0-5 down: 'I'm getting sacked tonight.' 'It was like an out of body experience watching the second half, I felt so detached from it because I knew what was coming. 'After the game, I spoke to the guys again and said: 'Thanks for everything, I'm not sure what's gonna happen now'. 8 'I went into the press conference and asked the head of media 'what's happening?' He says, 'We've done the statement' so it was a really quick press conference. He told me to go upstairs. I wanted to wait until the morning but we did it [the sacking] with the owners straight after the game.' But he hasn't allowed his dismissal last year to bring him down as he's found love with Southampton-daft glamour model Lucy. They were seen out together when the football coach was given an honorary degree by Brighton University and later turned heads at a Sky Sports social function. Pin-up Lucy, shot to fame as a glamour model in the early 2000s after she was spotted on Bournemouth beach by a photographer. She went on to become a regular in lads' mags Nuts, FHM and Loaded and has been in several movies — debuting in 2012 in Strippers vs Werewolves — and appeared on Celebrity Big Brother. The model knows a thing or two about celebrity romances, having reportedly dated Captain America star Chris Evans, 43, in the past. But seeing her fella succeed at Ibrox could mean she's found her second superhero. 8 Lucy and Martin were spotted at an event last year Credit: PA:Press Association 8 Martin led Southampton to promotion Credit: Getty 8 He played 29 times for Scotland Credit: Getty 8 Martin's philosophy earned the respect of the Southampton players Credit: Getty Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
