Naval Kishore Ram to be next PMC commissioner
Former Pune Collector Naval Kishore Ram will be the next municipal commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). He will take charge from outgoing commissioner Rajendra Bhosale on May 31, the day Bhosale retires.
In an office order, the Maharashtra government said a decision was arrived at to appoint Ram as Municipal Commissioner of PMC after he returns from deputation at the Prime Minister Office.
Ram is a 2008 batch IAS officer and was transferred to the Prime Minister's Office on deputation in 2020 after serving as Collector of Pune from 2018 to 2020. He hails from Bihar and also served as Collector of Aurangabad and Beed in the past.
Ram played a major role in handling the Covid situation in Pune during his tenure as Collector. His work was appreciated by senior authorities and government.

The NDA-government led by TDP organised 'Neeru-Chettu' programme in AP during 2014-19 and 'made' the State one of most greenest in the country!?! Let's 'get our ducks in a row' and prioritize accurate data collection to inform policy interventions. By doing so, we can 'stem the tide' of this pandemic and be better prepared for future health emergencies. Public complaint handling to define an officer's performance
Lucknow: In his first major directive after taking over as UP DGP, Rajeev Krishna on Friday unveiled a 10-point action plan to overhaul policing practices across the state, with emphasis on crime control, women safety, cybercrime response and police-public trust. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a high-level video conference attended by ADG (law & order) Amitabh Yash and all zonal, range, and district-level officers, Krishna laid out what he described as "the core operational priorities" of the UP Police going forward. He made it clear that these are not routine advisories but a new standard of policing that must reflect on the ground. "In the last eight years, UP has emerged as a national and global benchmark in law and order because of the strong political will of CM Yogi Adityanath. Now it's time for the police leadership to reflect the same clarity and commitment," Krishna said. Calling it his "top-most priority," the DGP warned that public complaint handling will now define an officer's performance. "People should not need to come to PHQ with unresolved issues. The resolution must happen at source," he said. The DGP directed officers to take even the smallest crime seriously. "District police chiefs must personally curate a list of top 10 offenders and actively monitor them using tech tools," he asserted. The DGP noted that while UP made major strides in creating a safer environment for women, "we now need to make it ironclad." He cited 'Operation Pehchaan' from Agra, where software analysis helped identify repeat harassers near girls' colleges, as a model. Krishna said that UP is now known globally for its law and order. "This must be sustained through micro-planning, intelligence analysis, foresight, and leadership," he stressed. He directed district units to launch awareness drives and bridge the skill gap through training. "International best practices must be embedded," Krishna said, inviting feedback from the field. Calling welfare a "moral obligation," Krishna told senior officers to ensure that every constable feels the department stands by them. "Your force will deliver only when they feel heard and protected," he said. With over 60,000 new constables joining, many of whom cleared national-level exams, Krishna said talent mapping was critical. "We have experts in every field. UP will soon become India's first police force to deploy AI in core policing," Krishna announced. Calling training "the only sustainable path to reform," he urged officers to invest in continuous, qualitative capacity-building. "Well-trained officers deliver better justice to citizens," he said. DGP presented a detailed framework for complaint handling and urged all officers to cultivate a transparent, citizen-first culture. He stressed that SHO-level postings must be done strictly on merit and urged leaders to communicate effectively with their teams.

West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari accuses State of ‘suppressing' fresh Covid data
Leader of Opposition of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Suvendu Adhikari on Friday accused the West Bengal government of keeping the State's Covid bulletin 'defunct' in a bid to 'suppress' the data on fresh Covid-positive cases in West Bengal. 'The State health department's Covid portal has been kept non-functioning to ensure the real number of Covid-positive cases does not get recorded there. The real Covid data is being suppressed in the same way that figures of dengue cases were suppressed,' Mr Adhikari said. Notably, official Covid bulletins have not been released on the State Health Department website since January 28, 2023. The bulletins, which were being uploaded almost daily since February 2020, carried facts and figures with respect to active Covid cases, fatalities, and recoveries in the State. The lack of updated data on fresh Covid cases on the West Bengal Health Department website assumes significance in the wake of a developing Covid surge in the country, where several positive cases are being recorded daily across States. A total of 55 people have died from Covid-related causes this year, according to the Covid dashboard operated by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In the Union Health Ministry's Covid dashboard, West Bengal recorded the third-highest increase in Covid-positive cases (58) among the States between June 5 and June 6, accounting for a total of 596 active cases in the State. Meanwhile, 91 people were cured and discharged on June 6, amounting to a total of 218 cured Covid cases so far this year. So far, one person has died from Covid-related causes in West Bengal this year, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data. On Friday, LoP Mr Adhikari also claimed to have accessed the State's 'accurate' district-wise Covid data. 'In Malda, for example, if 10 people are being tested for Covid, nine are being found to be positive,' he added. He further alleged that similar 'data suppression' was seen during the dengue wave. 'Doctors were scared of writing dengue as a diagnosis, in fear of transfer or torture. Now, the cases cannot be suppressed, so the government has stopped updating the data on the portal,' Mr Adhikari said. On being asked the source of the data he cited, the LoP said that the West Bengal administration does not just comprise 'Mamata Banerjee's people' but also supporters of the saffron party. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh opposed Mr Adhikari's accusations, saying that the State government is monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps. 'People have been told to stay alert. The State is making necessary system-based arrangements. However, the BJP has a habit of using fearmongering as a political tool. They should focus on the Covid situation in saffron-ruled States. The situation is in control in West Bengal,' Mr Ghosh said. Rally for 'Nari Samman' On Friday, Mr Adhikari also announced that he will lead a 'Nari Samman Yatra' (rally for women's honour) on June 9 in Bolpur in West Bengal's Birbhum district. Recently, Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal was accused of verbally abusing and threatening the Officer-in-Charge of Bolpur police station and his female family members after the alleged audio of a phone call between Mr Mondal and the police officer went viral.
