Travis Hunter will not play in Jaguars vs. Saints preseason Week 2 matchup. Who else?
Entering this weekend's contest, Hunter's status remained up in the air due to an upper-body injury presumably sustained during the team's second scrimmage on Thursday. Hunter stretched ahead of the team's walkthrough practice on Friday, but did not participate.
The second-overall pick was seen on the sideline next to Jaguars wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett with a playsheet in hand, staying in the action mentally while being unable to participate.
Hunter's status was not the only one up in the air entering this weekend's game against New Orleans. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Friday that he was undecided as to whether or not the team's starters would suit up.
The Jaguars have sustained multiple injuries to front-line players, including right guard/tackle Chuma Edoga and right tackle Anton Harrison, among others.
Jaguars vs Saints score today: Live updates on Travis Hunter, Trevor Lawrence in preseason
"I don't really want to do a, 'You're playing. You're not playing,' that kind of deal," Coen said. "So we kind of need to just make sure that if we are putting Trevor [Lawrence], we make sure we're protected and we have the right guys in front. Same with the runners. Just making sure that we're not putting people in vulnerable spots because we are injured."
Coen had changed his tune by Saturday, with the team announcing via social media that the head coach has informed players that the starters would suit up against New Orleans.
Ahead of the contest, the Jaguars announced a list of players who would not participate. Many of the team's injured players are listed, but it appears to be enough to let Lawrence and company get a warm-up session against the NFC South foe.

Sean Payton says story of Saints' walk-on player would be a better movie than 'Invincible'
Sean Payton will happily procure talent from anywhere. The Denver Broncos' coach has repeatedly said it doesn't matter if the player is a high draft pick, a low draft pick, a big free agency signing or an undrafted free agent addition. If the player proves they can play, they'll get an opportunity -- even over more high-profile teammates. A great example of that is former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Lewis, who played under Payton in 2006. "We had a returner in New Orleans that never played high school or college football," Payton told Denver reporters last week. "Do you guys remember the days where they would literally have an open tryout? Guys would show up in blue jeans and coaches would be patient enough timing 40-[yard dashes]. This Michael Lewis shows up, he's working two doors down at the Budweiser factory. [He] runs one of these 40s, and everyone looks at their watch and you're only supposed to run one. Then they said, 'Mike, would you run another one for us?' Sure enough, he goes and runs another one and then, 'All right, we're going to invite you to…' "Then he comes, and he's at training camp, and then he makes the 53-[man roster] and a few years later, he's the Pro Bowl punt returner. That's a movie, 'Beer Man.' That's a lot better than the Vince Papale story. Every time I'd see him in the hallway, I said, 'I want the rights.' He played for me, and he works still for the Saints. It's an amazing story and I tell this story because it's better. It was dark [near the Saints facility on] Airline Drive. He made the wrong right-handed turn. Instead of the Budweiser, two doors down were the Saints. That's pretty amazing. We're rooting for them all.' Payton said the story would make a better movie than "Invincible," a popular film about Vince Papale starring Mark Wahlberg. Statistically, Payton's right. Papale spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and he had one 15-yard catch in 41 appearances. He was also a key special teams player and recovered two fumbles. In typical Hollywood fashion, the movie does not mention that Papale had two years of semipro football experience before joining the Eagles. Lewis also played indoor and semipro football before joining the Saints, and he spent part of the 2000 offseason with the Eagles before being cut. He tried out for New Orleans in 2001 and was named a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler after leading the NFL in kickoff (625) and punt return (1,807) yards in 2002. Lewis spent six seasons with the Saints and he holds franchise records for punt return yards (1,482) and kickoff return yards (5,903). He also holds an NFL record for the most combined return yards in a single season (2,432 in 2002). A member of the Saints Hall of Fame, Lewis totaled 8,377 all-purpose yards and scored five touchdowns in his career. In terms of NFL success, that's a way better story than "Invincible." Lewis approved the development of a movie about his career in 2019, but it's hard to find any recent updates on the status of that film. If the movie is eventually made, it will be a must-watch for all football fans. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Did you know: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Travis Hunter returns to practice; other Jaguars injury updates
Travis Hunter returned to the practice field on Tuesday. That and other injury updates from Jaguars training camp. Travis Hunter was back on the practice field on Tuesday as the Jacksonville Jaguars head into the final week of the preseason. Following last Thursday's scrimmage, where Hunter played both wide receiver and cornerback for 33 total snaps, he was held out of Friday's practice. Head coach Liam Coen will call it an upper-body injury that Hunter was working through and that his absence was precautionary. Hunter then did not play in the Jaguars' Week 2 preseason matchup either. At the start of practice on Tuesday, Hunter was working with the defensive backs in position drills. We will provide an additional update once we learn whether or not Hunter is participating in the team portion of practice. Some more good news for the Jaguars is that Maason Smith and Arik Armstead were both going through individual work with the rest of the defensive line. Also on the practice field were Tyson Campbell and Dyami Brown. Campbell missed all of last week with an injury, while Brown did not play in Sunday's preseason game.

What's different so far about the Jaguars under Liam Coen?
There's already some noticeable differences between the Jaguars under head coach Liam Coen. What's changed most is likely the one that needed to the most, supporting QB Trevor Lawrence and creating an offense built for him. So far, the results are promising. Through two games, Lawrence is 14 of 17 passing for 119 yards, one touchdown and zero turnovers. It is important to note the fumble, however, that was more of a fluke thing than something Lawrence necessarily did wrong. Lawrence looks great in Liam Coen's offense. He's calm, methodical, and decisive, as opposed to the frantic version we saw on occasion under Doug Pederson's tutelage. The mechanics also look much cleaner as he is now stepping up into the pocket and stepping into throws with confidence. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Lawrence has an impressive adjusted completion rate of 88.2%, according to Pro Football Focus. This statistic eliminates the throws that are drops, throwaways, spikes, or throws where the quarterback was hit while thrown, trying to get a more accurate representation of accuracy. His adjusted completion % ranks fourth among QBs who have played in two preseason games. His time in the pocket is also noticeably higher as is his level of comfort. In Pederson's offense, the Jaguars were among the fastest in the NFL at getting rid of the ball. While that will likely be the case again under Coen too, Lawrence has had the time to work through his progressions and make the right choices this preseason. Thus far, Lawrence has had an average time to throw of 2.91 seconds this season, much higher than his 2.63 seconds in 2024. In both 2022 and 2023, Lawrence's average times to throw were in the 2.50 second range. It's both a testament to the offensive line and Lawrence's comfort in Liam Coen's system that he's able to hold the ball for so much longer. Another key difference under the Jaguars' new staff is their open-mindedness on defense. The Jaguars' previous staff really didn't change things up much. As Shad Khan said, they were very predictable. They ran man coverage by far the most of any team and the defense rarely changed up roles or positions. [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] This preseason, however, we have gotten a sneak peak at the Jaguars utilizing defenders in different ways. The one most intriguing is using Travon Walker as an interior defender on obvious pass-rushing downs. In 2024, Walker played just 3.8% of his snaps aligned on or inside the tackle. This preseason, that number is up to 25%. While it's extremely doubtful that the number will be that high, it goes to show Anthony Campanile's willingness to find mismatches and exploit them. Walker had a pressure against the Saints from an inside alignment, along with Dawuane Smoot. Walker is one of just eight players to post doubt-digit sack seasons each of the last two seasons. If the shedded weight and Campanile's leadership can help him take another step, watch out.
