10 genius grocery hacks to beat rising food prices in the US
The Consumer Price Index backs that up: grocery prices jumped 2.4% over the last year, and eggs alone saw a shocking 27.3% spike. From meats to milk, every major category got costlier. If you're looking to save without sacrificing your shopping list, these ten smart grocery hacks can help.
Check your shelves before going to the store
Before you step out to shop, peek into your pantry, fridge, and freezer. You might already own half the ingredients for dinner. Few apps let you plug in what you have and suggest recipes, no extra spending required.
Lists are your new best friend
A list isn't just helpful—it's your budget's bodyguard. Plan meals, jot down only what you need, and resist temptations like limited-edition cookies. Few apps make it easier by helping you meal-plan ahead of time.
Freeze what you don't need right away
If you spot a great deal on bread, meat, or berries, buy extra and freeze the rest. It prevents waste and saves you from paying full price next week.
Buy in bulk (Selectively)
Things like rice, oats, beans, and nuts are often cheaper in bulk bins.

Midweek is the money-saver's sweet spot
Shop on Wednesdays. According to Google Maps, grocery stores are quieter midweek, so you'll be more focused and less likely to impulse-buy. Bonus: many stores drop their new weekly deals that day.
Go full fruit and veggie
Skip the pre-chopped options. A whole carrot or onion costs way less than the sliced version. You'll pay with a bit more prep time, but your bank account will thank you.
(Though maybe skip oranges for now, they're pricier due to shortages.)
Use Loyalty Programs
Most grocery stores have free membership programs that offer digital coupons or points you can redeem for discounts or freebies. Sign up, it adds up fast.
Do the unit price math
Check the price per ounce, gram, or item—not just the sticker cost. A jumbo pack might be cheaper in the long run, even if it looks more expensive up front. It's all about cost per use.
Never shop on an empty stomach
Seems obvious, right? But hunger makes you throw extra stuff in the cart, snacks, junk, even candles. Eat a snack or meal before heading out so your cravings don't control the list.
Plan meals around sales
Instead of planning meals and then shopping, reverse it. Check weekly flyers and base your menu on what's on discount.

ED files prosecution complaint in interstate investment fraud case
Panaji: The enforcement directorate (ED), Goa, has filed a prosecution complaint against Krishan Kumar alias Vijay Kumar Jaiswal alias Vijay Kishan Jaiswal, his wife Rashmi alias Rashmi Jaiswal, and three companies promoted by them, in connection with an alleged inter-state investment fraud. The ED filed the prosecution complaint before the special court (Prevention of Money Laundering Act or PMLA), North Goa. The prosecution complaint was filed for the commission of the offence of money laundering as defined under the act. The ED stated that the accused are the directors of the companies. The case arises from multiple FIRs registered by law enforcement agencies against Krishan and others in Goa, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh for offences under various sections of the IPC, the Goa Protection of Interests of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, 1999, and the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978. The ED investigation revealed that the accused, acting in conspiracy, incorporated three companies, namely Yudivo Marketing Private Limited, Yudivo Lifecare Private Limited, and Yudivo Property and Profits Private Limited, and floated fraudulent multi-level marketing schemes under the guise of direct selling and investment plans. Innocent investors from multiple states were lured with false promises of high returns and incentives, leading to an overall collection of approximately Rs 3 crore from the public at large, the ED said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The funds collected were misappropriated and diverted for personal use, the ED said, including for the purchase of immovable property and for luxury expenses, with the three companies being the vehicles of the offence of money laundering. 'The accused projected the proceeds of crime as untainted by routing funds through multiple bank accounts of themselves as well as the companies owned and controlled by them and using them in sham business activities,' the ED said. Earlier, the ED attached an immovable property pertaining to the accused persons valued at Rs 72 Lakh, located at Gulshan Ikebana, Sector 143, Noida, under the provisions of the PMLA. This attachment was confirmed by the adjudicating authority under the PMLA.

3 years late, but 30% work still left, Golf Course contractor blacklisted
Noida: The Noida Authority has blacklisted Kashyapi Infrastructure — the contractor for the International Golf Course project in Sector 151A — for two years after the company failed to complete construction despite multiple deadline extensions. The Authority has also withheld the company's security deposit and performance guarantee. The Rs 140-crore project, which began in July 2021 with an initial deadline of one year, has been plagued by delays, with only 68% completion achieved so far. The latest extension granted was till June 30 this year. Deputy general manager (civil) Vijay Rawal said show-cause notices were issued to the company in Nov 2024 and June 2025, but their responses were found "unsatisfactory and baseless". The contractor's inaction has not only delayed the project but also "tarnished the Authority's image", he added. Officials said the contractor had gradually reduced the workforce over two months until the site became completely inactive, ignoring multiple notices and reminders to expedite work. The delay has affected about 1,000 people who signed up for membership before their enrollment was suspended in 2023. These members collectively contributed around Rs 50 crore to the project. The Authority has initiated proceedings to terminate the ongoing civil work contract.

New chip research centre to open at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation in Chandigarh in 2 years
Chandigarh: In a move to boost India's presence in the global semiconductor market, a new research centre is slated to open at the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) in Chandigarh in two years. The foundation stone for the "Opto Microelectronic Research Centre," a first-of-its-kind facility in the country, was laid on Tuesday by Dr N Kalaiselvi, director-general, CSIR. The establishment of this centre is a direct initiative under the "India Semiconductor Mission," a govt programme launched in Dec 2021 with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore. The mission aims to provide financial support for investments in semiconductor fabrication, display manufacturing, and chip design to strengthen India's electronics value chains. The new centre is specifically designed to bolster the country's capability in semiconductor packaging, a critical "back-end" manufacturing process. The project is structured with a phased timeline. The initial three years will focus on mini-displays assembly, testing, marking, and packaging. In the near term, it will focus on developing and perfecting mini-displays for smart devices and car dashboards, a critical segment of the electronics market. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Become Fluent in Any Language Talkpal AI Undo As the project matures, the focus will shift to pioneering advanced mini-LED technology. "The ultimate goal is to achieve complete indigenisation of high-tech components, culminating in the creation of a fully Indian-made 'head-up display', a futuristic technology that projects vital information directly into a user's line of sight," said a senior scientist at the CSIO. This initiative is part of a broader push to grow India's semiconductor market, which was valued at approximately $38 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $100–110 billion by 2030.
