Self-doubt was my ‘secret superpower', Sturgeon says
The pieces discuss some of the hardest moments of her life and career, as well as conflicted feelings over motherhood and sexuality.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, Ms Sturgeon described herself as a 'public introvert', telling the paper: 'I am somebody who can come alive on a stage in front of thousands of people, but put me at a dinner table with four people and I will struggle much, much more.'
When asked about the theme of self-doubt running throughout her memoir, she said: 'I spent the earlier part of my life thinking it was a great handicap. I actually came to think it was my secret superpower.
'It definitely drives you on. You work harder. So I wouldn't change it. I don't know that I'd have got as far in politics without it, actually.'
The interview also touched on the importance of emotional intelligence for politicians, with Ms Sturgeon telling the paper: 'I think politics sucks it out of people. I also think people with very low emotional intelligence are probably disproportionately attracted to the status.
'I guess it kind of sits with narcissism. I've come across them all my life in politics, people who exude this kind of superiority complex.'
Elsewhere, Ms Sturgeon said she was excited about the next chapter in her life.
'I feel happier than I've possibly ever felt,' she told The Sunday Times.
'A future where I can go anywhere, live anywhere I want, form new relationships. I can meet new people, I can do new things, I can find out what it is I want to do with the rest of my life.'
In a fresh excerpt from her memoir, Ms Sturgeon claimed Alex Salmond, her predecessor as first minister, may have leaked details about an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
And in an extract published on Friday, Ms Sturgeon discussed her arrest in 2023, describing it as 'mental torture'.
Ms Sturgeon served as Scottish first minister between 2014 and 2023.

Coulport nuclear leaks spark alarm among local nuclear campaigners
Pipes which the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had allowed to fall into disrepair leaked nuclear waste into Loch Long from the Trident base at Culport. The revelations came after an investigation by The Ferret which forced the release of information on the leaks the Government had tried to keep hushed up. Marian Pallister, chair of Pax Christi Scotland, said the revelations were unsurprising but concerning for people living in the area. Pallister, a writer and journalist who lives near Lochgilphead, told The National: 'I'm afraid that it wasn't a surprise, we have known about this for a long time.' She dismissed the MoD's claims that there had been 'no unsafe releases of radioactive material into the environment', adding: 'They would say that, wouldn't they? 'They are obviously going to lessen their involvement but however big or small the leaks might be, they are leaks into waters that are a part of our lives, part of our heritage. 'I live in mid-Argyll, as the seagull flies, I'm about 35 miles from Faslane, it's a much longer journey by road. These are waters that we sail in, that we swim in, that our fish come from et cetera. Even if it's one milli-whatever of contamination, then it affects the whole population.' Pallister also raised concerns about the impact on tourism to the area, which is a major boost to its economy. She said: 'This area relies so much on tourism. Do you think that tourists are going to come up here if they think that the waters around the Clyde Estuary are contaminated with radiation?' The scandal has led to calls from the Scottish Greens for an investigation after a six-year battle to have the files released. There was one pipe burst in 2010 and a further two in 2019, one of which released 'significant amounts of water' flooding a nuclear weapons processing area where the water became contaminated with tritium, a material in nuclear warheads. This water was released into Loch Long. After an investigation by Sepa, the MoD promised 23 actions to prevent more bursts and floods in March 2020. However, there were two more pipe bursts in 2021 including another incident in an area with radioactive substances. German firm should think again about wind farm near Glen Affric
On August 6 the German company wrote to community councils saying it had submitted its planning application for 20 mega-sized turbines to the Scottish Government in July after consulting with the community and refining its plans. Those 'refinements' are certainly not obvious and it is doubtful they have changed anything at all after public 'feedback'. Cherry-picked viewpoints, misty visuals and turbines not much larger than cows all serve to try and downplay what will be a catastrophic impact for so many. Apparently, interested parties could view the application on the Energy Consents Unit (ECU) website or visit Beauly post office to have access to a hard copy expected to be thousands of pages long. READ MORE: Elon Musk's Tesla applies to supply energy to UK households The reference number they gave was for another wind farm entirely – it was also on their public notification advert on their website. The correct number was only showing as still in scoping on the ECU – not a planning application. Visits to Beauly post office on August 7 – actually a fuel station and busy shop with a shared counter – established there were no documents and the staff had no idea when or if they would arrive. The venue is several miles from the most impacted community in Kilmorack. Accessing large files online is proving difficult, so provisions must be made for Kilmorack to have a hard copy. The chaos didn't stop there. When the planning application finally appeared on the ECU on August 8, it was for 36 turbines with a much higher installed capacity than the 20-turbine application should have. The confusion with so many errors has not endeared itself to an already hostile population. This is the third time a foreign wind developer has attempted to industrialise the same hills, and the majority of visitors to EnergieKontor's public 'consultation' tick-box certainly appeared to be firmly against the development. EnergieKontor has a live planning application in for two met masts for Ballach wind farm. When asked how they could submit a planning application without knowing the wind speeds in the area, they replied that they were using 'historic data'. So why did they waste Highland Council's time and our money and bother with the met masts application if they already had the information required? The historic data from German ABO Wind speculators in the same area was 'insufficient wind', and was why they withdrew their unwanted proposal in 2015. Save yourselves some money, EnergieKontor, and do the same. Leave this community in peace. It is heartily sick of speculating developers like you attempting to industrialise where they live for profit. Sadly, although not unexpectedly, many UK newspapers also decided to effectively repeat Netanyahu's propaganda rather than provide a serious attempt at some semblance of reporting balance. With the latest deliberate slaughter of Palestinian journalists (on the pretext of one being a Hamas operative but with no evidence presented to back this claim) surely it is time for UK journalists, including those at the BBC and ITV, to speak out and end this reporting sham, which in effect helps to facilitate the starvation and continuing massacre of innocent men, women and helpless children. The MoD says that only hostage location information is passed. Somebody is not very good at their job if there are any unfound hostages even after 500-plus flights have taken place since December 2023.
