Al-Hilal Withdraws From the Saudi Super Cup

Morocco World14-07-2025
Al Hilal are considering pulling out of the 2025 Saudi Super Cup, which will take place in Hong Kong, citing technical and physical reasons, following their participation in the Club World Cup.
According to Al-Hilal's officials, the players are still exhausted after participating in the Club World Cup, and need some time to recover before starting another season. The Saudi Football Association is not objecting, as Al-Hilal is the only team that barely had any rest.
According to local media, the club could face penalties under tournament regulations, including a fine of up to SAR 500,000 and a potential ban from the next edition. The Federation is still reviewing potential implications.
Sports critic Mohammed Al-Sheikh: 'The team is suffering from continuous fatigue after a long and arduous season, both at the club level and with the national teams, while no other Saudi club has faced the same physical pressure.'
Al-Hilal have submitted an official apology for not playing their scheduled match against Al-Qadisiyah. Al-Shekh commented that the apology was not arbitrary but came after a thorough analysis of the technical and administrative circumstances, considering that the decision could ultimately benefit the team in the long term.
The Saudi Super Cup is set to take place in Hong Kong on August 19, with Al-Nassr facing Al-Ittihad. Al-Hilal were due to play Al-Qadisiyah the following day.
The Riyadh-based club is the title holder of the last Saudi Super Cup, with Brazilian forward Malcom scoring twice in a 4-1 victory over Al Ittihad in Abu Dhabi.
With Al-Hilal out of the Super Cup, Al-Ahli is considered the frontrunners to replace them, according to Al-Riyadiyah newspaper. The final line-up of participating clubs is yet to be confirmed. Tags: Al HilalRoshn Saudi Leagueyassine bounou

Three Saudi Clubs Privatized Through Public Offerings

Rabat – Saudi Arabia has announced that three of their football clubs – Al-Ansar, Al-Kholood, and Al-Zulfi – were privatized on Thursday through a public offering. The Saudi Ministry of Sports said that the ownership of these clubs has been transferred to investment entities, adding that a total of six clubs would be offered up for privatization. Al-Zulfi Club ownership was transferred to Nojoom Al-Salam Company, Al-Kholood Club is now owned by the Harburg Group, and Al-Ansar Club was acquired by Oudah Al-Baladi & Sons Company. While Al-Nahda's proposals are still under review by the ministry, Al-Okhdood and Al-Orobah will be put up for auction, allowing investors to submit their proposals. The Gulf country's Sports Club Privatization Project was launched by the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2024, and was approved by the Saudi Cabinet in the same year. The aim is to develop a strong, competitive sports sector driven by private investment and professional club management. This move aligns with Saudi Arabia's new 2030 economic vision plan , to diversify its economy by promoting investments in new sectors and reducing the overreliance on oil. 'The project includes two main tracks: the first is for major companies and development entities to invest in sports clubs, in return for transferring ownership of the clubs to them. The second track is offering a number of sports clubs for privatization,' the sports ministry said on official website. This project is designed to transform the Saudi sports clubs into a professionally run businesses that attract investment, operate independently, and positively impact society through job creation, entertainment, and community involvement. Brahim Díaz Frozen Out: Xabi Alonso Drops Bombshell

Real Madrid's head coach Xabi Alonso has informed Moroccan international Brahim Díaz that he is not in the club's starting plans for the 2025-26 season. According to Marca , Alonso told Díaz that he would begin the season as a substitute, while assuring him that all players would have an opportunity to prove themselves and potentially earn a more prominent role in the squad. Díaz, 25, has struggled to secure a consistent place under both Ancelotti and Alonso. During the Club World Cup, he played just 103 minutes and was left out of key fixtures against Juventus and Borussia Dortmund. Alonso also issued warnings to Rodrygo and Raúl Asencio, stating that competition for starting spots will be intense. Díaz's contract runs until 2027. The Atlas Lion has already collected six trophies with Real Madrid, including a UEFA Champions League title and a Serie A title during his loan at AC Milan.
