Warriors cop brutal new setback as anger mounts over NRL's response to illegal act
But the Warriors are reportedly 'fuming' about the grading and the two-game ban for Kaufusi, after seeing their playe wiped out for the rest of the regular season, as a result of the tackle. It's understood the Auckland-based club are calling on the NRL to implement a change to their judiciary process that takes into account the extent of injury to players, before suspensions are handed down.
Laban was in obvious pain after being hit low from Kaufusi in the second half of his side's heartbreaking late defeat to the Dolphins, with Faufusi subsequently sent to the sin bin. The Warriors forward was already wrapped up in the tackle by two other Dolphins defenders when Kaufusi entered the fray as the third man in and targeted his legs, causing them to twist awkwardly and leaving Laban crying out in agony.
The back-rower was helped off the field by Warriors medical staff and played no further part in the contest as Jamayne Isaako snatched a 20-18 win for the Dolphins with a try in the dying stages. It's since been confirmed that Laban suffered a broken leg and is set to be sidelined for at least the next six weeks, continuing a wretched spate of injuries for the Warriors. They are already missing a host of first-team regulars including Mitch Barnett, Luke Metcalf, Rocco Berry and James Fisher-Harris and have seen their top-four hopes take a massive hit.
Warriors question two-game ban for Felise Kaufusi
And according to Code Sports, furious Warriors officials believe the match review committee should have upgraded Kaufusi's charge and handed him a longer suspension after learning the extent of Laban's injury. The NRL has maintained that charges for illegal acts are made on the basis of potential 'risk of injury', rather than the 'outcome of injury'.
But the Warriors are unhappy that the charge was handed down to Kaufusi before they'd received confirmation of Laban's broken leg. And it's led to questions about why the NRL didn't choose to adopt a new rule brought in by the ARL Commission, that could have seen Kaufusi hit with a more significant suspension.
The ARLC recently announced a change to the judiciary process that gives it powers to upgrade or downgrade charges, and even hand down fresh sanctions for on-field incidents. And the Warriors clearly believe Kaufusi's punishment is incongruous with the damage done to their player.
Andrew Johns wants third man in tackles stamped out of NRL
Kaufusi's suspension comes after league 'Immortal' Andrew Johns called on the NRL to crack down hard on third man in tackles to try and eliminate the controversial practice from the game. His fury came after Karl Lawton's tackle on Siua Wong in June that left the Roosters star with a serious knee injury and saw the Cowboys forward slapped with a two-game ban.

"It's dangerous, I hate it," Johns told Nine about the incident at the time. "If you have two players in the tackle, and momentum is pretty much (stopped), that third man shouldn't be able to go in like that. A couple of years ago we saw Liam Knight get hit from behind and it pretty much destroyed every ligament in his knee.
"The player cannot see it coming. And what's come into the game is they back into the tackle so they can see the third man coming in and spearing at the knee. And what's happened with that happening is we have crushers coming into the game, because of players turning and twisting looking for that third man."
Andrew Webster confirmed Jacob Laban out for 4-6 weeks with leg fracture after Kaufisi tackle. He didnt comment too much, but is obvious club are very displeased that injury to Laban wasn't taken into account when assessing Kaufisi punishment. @NZWarriors @nzheraldsport

These tackles are squarely the fault of the nrl and referees. In days gone once called held, play the ball, no passing, no post contact metres, no throwing to the ground - no walking off the mark. Now they let it go calling held 3 or 4 times. Players then come in late.

They shouldn't need to implement additional powers. If the people in the MRC are being too soft, direct them to get tougher or sack them and replace them with people who will.

Golden State Warriors jersey history - No. 20 - Bill Turner (1970-71)
The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history. Founded in 1946 during the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- a precursor league of the NBA) era, the team has called home the cities of Philadelphia, San Francisco, Oakland, and even San Diego. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. For this article, we begin with the sixth of 29 players who wore the No. 20 jersey for the Warriors. That player would be Golden State forward alum Bill Turner. After ending his college career at Akron, Turner was picked up with the 27th overall selection of the 1967 NBA Draft by the (then) San Francisco (now, Golden State) Warriors. The Cleveland, Ohio native would play parts of the first three seasons of his pro career with the Dubs before being dealt to the (then) Cincinnati Royals (now, Sacramento Kings) for a single season in 1969 before returning to Golden State for two more seasons, coming to an end when he was waived in 1972. During his time suiting up for the Warriors, Turner wore jersey Nos. 12, 22, 20, and 34, and put up 5.2 points and 3.5 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

Lynx's Napheesa Collier assisted off court after scary collision vs. Aces
The post Lynx's Napheesa Collier assisted off court after scary collision vs. Aces appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Minnesota Lynx were riding high throughout their game against the Las Vegas Aces until the end of the third quarter, when their star player and this year's top league MVP hopeful Napheesa Collier collapsed to the court in pain. Collier needed help to stand and support to walk to the locker room from the athletic trainers. Collier was a victim of friendly fire after accidentally colliding with teammate Alanna Smith while trying to extend the team's 43-point lead over the Aces, seriously rolling her ankle at the end of the fastbreak attempt. The Lynx later reported that Collier's injury was to her right ankle and ruled her out for the remainder of the game. Collier's impact on not only her fellow Lynx team members but WNBA players as a whole was on full display, as both benches emptied to check on Collier while she was down on the court. Aces star A'ja Wilson, and Collier's Olympic teammate, was one of those who came to the Lynx superstar's aid. Fans might be able to breathe a sigh of relief since Collier was physically able to walk off the court, meaning her injury could look worse than it was. However, at this crucial point in the 2025 WNBA season, the Lynx may want to prioritize caution so that they have Collier back at full strength before the playoffs begin. Collier came into the Aces matchup averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.7 blocks on 53.7% shooting. Her MVP bid most likely won't be at risk if she has to miss an extended amount of time, but Minnesota's quest for championship redemption after last year's loss to the New York Liberty would take a major hit if Collier can't bring 100% of herself to the game. Wings forward suffers injury scare vs. Fever
The post Wings forward suffers injury scare vs. Fever appeared first on ClutchPoints. DALLAS — The Dallas Wings were defeated by the Indiana Fever on Friday night, losing by a final score of 88-78. Indiana got the job done on the road despite Caitlin Clark's injury absence. During the fourth quarter, Wings forward Myisha Hines-Allen suffered an injury scare. Hines-Allen fell to the floor hard during a play in the final quarter. She was clearly in pain and the training staff — along with her teammates — circled around her. Hines-Allen was helped to her feet and exited the game with assistance. It appeared to be some sort of leg injury. She did later return to the bench, however. Chris Koclanes was asked after the game if he had any new updates on Hines-Allen's injury status. The Wings head coach, however, said there were no updates on the forward. The fact that Hines-Allen was able to return to the bench is promising. The hope is that she avoided any kind of serious injury. The Wings have dealt with injury trouble all season long, so the last thing they need is another long-term absence. It goes without saying, but her injury situation will be worth closely monitoring moving forward. Updates will be provided as they are made available. With a few days until the Wings' next game, Hines-Allen will have time to rest. Hines-Allen, a 29-year-old veteran, has endured an up and down season. She entered Friday night's affair averaging 6.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per outing. She was also shooting 46.9 percent from the field ahead of the contest. Overall, the Wings have struggled throughout the 2025 campaign. They now hold an 8-21 record in 2025. The team will attempt to bounce back in their next contest against the Liberty in New York on Tuesday. It has been a challenging campaign for this Wings team, but they will continue to play hard in hopes of finishing the season strong.
