"Stadium left unattended, no police protection": Karnataka BJP on Bengaluru stampede
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 8 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Karnataka mounted an attack on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, days after 11 people died in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede in Bengaluru.
Karnataka Deputy Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA Arvind Bellad alleged that the duo wanted to 'take selfies' and 'celebrate' the victory with RCB players.
'After this big tragedy in Karnataka, more than 30 common citizens were injured, and 11 people lost their lives. The chief minister, Siddaramaiah, and the deputy chief minister, DK Shivakumar, are two culprits... Because they wanted to take selfies and wanted to celebrate the victory with the RCB players, the whole attention of the police and the officers was on them. They were busy giving protection to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, whereas the crowd gathered at the Stadium was left unattended... There was no police protection. All the police officers were busy protecting the chief minister and their family... Siddaramaiah should resign,' Bellad said.
Senior BJP leader CT Ravi also called to fix the responsibility.
'11 people died--speaking the truth about it, is that politics? Did we go eat dosa after hearing about the deaths? Who is responsible? Did we call everyone to Vidhana Soudha and felicitate them? Does RCB represent the state or Kannadigas? The CM and Deputy CM are responsible. Your political credit war caused this...' Ravi stated.
Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah has ordered an increase in the compensation announced for the families of those who died in the stampede to Rs 25 lakh each.
Earlier, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each.
Earlier, top senior officials of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam, tendered their resignations, taking 'moral responsibility' for the stampede ahead of RCB team's felicitation after winning their Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a tight final on Tuesday. Taking a jibe at Kumawat, Jully added, 'The minister is a good man, but he has been misinformed. If he had seen the actual data, he wouldn't have made such a statement.' The Leader of Opposition also alleged that the BJP is once again trying to stoke religious sentiments. 'They use cows and goats as tools to divide communities. First ban beef exports, then talk about goats,' he said. The issue has quickly gained traction on social media, with religious and cultural organisations weighing in. Some criticized the government for allowing the export, while others condemned the political narrative being built around the festival. Each of the cargo flights to the Gulf transported between 450 and 950 goats, with individual shipments weighing between 500 kg to 15,000 kg. The first consignment departed on May 1, marking the beginning of this year's export activities. The increasing frequency of direct flights from Jaipur to Gulf destinations is positioning the city as a pivotal hub for the export of sacrificial goats.

Puducherry AIADMK's Anbazhagan criticises govt for unfulfilled welfare promises
PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry AIADMK State Secretary A Anbazhagan has lashed out at the territorial government led by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, accusing it of resorting to populist measures without the financial wherewithal to implement them. He alleged that the administration was attempting to woo voters ahead of the elections while leaving deep-rooted administrative inefficiencies unaddressed. Speaking to reporters, Anbazhagan said several welfare measures announced during the recent budget session — targeting the poor, middle class, and student community — had yet to take off. 'The government has not even begun distributing application forms for some of these schemes,' he claimed. Among the major announcements were the proposed enhancement of monthly assistance from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 for nearly 70,000 below-poverty-line families, which would entail an annual outlay of Rs 126 crore. Another key promise was Rs 1,000 monthly support to approximately one lakh women not currently covered under existing welfare schemes, requiring Rs 120 crore annually. However, Anbazhagan contended that none of these proposals had moved beyond the announcement stage. He also flagged the government's promise to increase old age pension assistance by Rs 500 for 1.81 lakh beneficiaries — including widows, the elderly, and the destitute — which would cost the exchequer Rs 108.6 crore per year. Enhancements in educational support for children of fishermen and the differently-abled, as well as increased assistance for marriages and funerals, would altogether push annual expenditure up by nearly Rs 400 crore, he said, adding that no corresponding budgetary allocation had been made.
