Firefighter accused of domestic assault in Tipton County
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Brighton firefighter was arrested after a domestic assault call on Tuesday, according to the Tipton County Sheriff's Office.
Jerry Whiteside, 39, was charged with domestic assault and has a bond of $15,000.
On May 20, at 7:25 p.m., deputies responded to a domestic assault call in the 1300 block of McWilliams Road.
According to reports, a deputy arrived on the scene and saw Jerry Whiteside going to the front patio of the residence. Whiteside was yelling and pointing at a woman.

He was detained and put in the back of a patrol unit while deputies spoke to the victim. The victim said he overheard Whiteside making remarks about his mother.
Reports say Whiteside said something similar to 'I will end you over your mom' to the victim.
Deputies say Whiteside got into the victim's personal space and began yelling at him.
The victim told police he said something similar to 'If you touch me, I'll stab you' in response to Whiteside, and the victim brandished his knife after saying the statement.

According to reports, the victim said his mother told him to walk away, and Whiteside later shoved the victim's chest.
He said Whiteside walked away and attempted to put his clothes in his Jeep Wrangler. The victim's mother said she did not witness the assault between her son and Whiteside.
Deputies spoke with a 16-year-old who says he witnessed Whiteside shove the victim at least once.
Whiteside denied any physical assault occurring, but said he was arguing with the victim.
According to the Tipton County Sheriff's Office, Whiteside was determined to be the primary aggressor, and the victim's comments and actions were determined as self-defense.
Whiteside was arrested and transported to Tipton County Correctional Facility.

Police search for driver after victim injured in South Side hit-and-run crash overnight
CHICAGO — Authorities are asking for help from the public in the search for a driver wanted in connection with a South Side hit-and-run crash that left a person seriously injured overnight. Men armed with machete barged into Dollar General, but got away with empty bags, Gwinnett police say
Gwinnett County police are searching for two men who robbed a Dollar General last month, but they didn't actually get away with any money. Police say two men, one of whom had a machete, walked into the store on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road near Dean Road on May 19. One of the employees said she was walked over to the safe and ordered to hand over the money inside. Baldwin County's first Safe Haven baby box blessed in Daphne
DAPHNE, Ala., (WKRG) — On the corner of the newest fire station in Daphne, a first for Baldwin County. A Safe Haven Baby Box. Hundreds run across iconic Mobile bridge to help Africatown 'You would simply walk up to the box, you open that door, you place the baby in the medical grade safe bassinet, close the door and walk away,' said Caitlin Kelly with Safe Haven Baby Boxes. She calls the boxes an extension of the Safe Haven law, a law that allows the surrender of infants up to 45 days old in Alabama. An option that wouldn't be possible without Alabama State Representative Donna Givens. 'My heart was touched. I knew I had to do it for the state of Alabama,' Givens said. The Daphne location is the 18th baby box in Alabama. More are planned, including at fire stations in Foley and in Spanish Fort. The goal is to save lives with no name, no shame and no blame, according to Kelly. 'The bravest and hardest decision. As a mother, I cannot understand it. As an adoptive mother, I am so grateful for it.' The box has three alarms; once the door is opened, first responders are notified within seconds. 'If someone chooses to use this box, we will see to it that that baby gets to their next phase and there's hope,' said Daphne Fire Chief LeAnn Tacon. So far this year, more than 60 infants have been surrendered across the nation.
